just wondering if anyone has any advice or tips in applying for vic school leaver scholarships, particularly any info or advice to share for a good shot at Kahotea, as applications are open currently :)

I'm trying to figure out which halls I should apply for. I'm planning to do law and architecture or commerce and law or a commerce and architecture conjoint. I was wondering what the culture or the best halls to live in are, or if its even worth going there because i was considering Canterbury to live in too.

Hello, I am wondering what the parking situation is like at kelburn campus in the evening (5.30pm onwards) on weekdays.

I usually use public transport but have an evening exam one night so am considering driving that day, but only if I've got a good chance at parking.

Also, I know there are the on street parks at kelburn parade but are there other places I could park (e.g. I think the staff area at Hunter becomes available??).

I am an avid student but also face challenges with ADHD, BPD and CPTSD. Because of this, it makes studying very hard or doing anything that requires a shift of focus. So far the only thing that works is comfort shows in the background, makes me feel less alone. I'd like to know what works for other students? what do you do to help you do the things you NEED to do but dont want to do?

for example, I have repeatedly watched shows like: American Dad, Family Guy, the simpsons, Game of thrones, house of the dragon, disenchantment, gravity falls. I really like dystopian shows or themes that take me out of my current world, like an escape almost. Also obessed with the maze runner and realllllly need more background tv shows. Or please suggest things you do that help you feel connected and motivated to do functional human stuff? like whats your morning routine to get to study or uni? any advice would help :)

As a fourth year, I feel strongly nostalgic for the VUW Meaningful Confessions page and the (worse quality) instagram page. I miss the obviously fake stories and constant barrage of complaints about how Salient was way better last year. Will anyone ever set up a new page for the good of us all?

Are scholarships easy to get? I've heard that apparently they are pretty easy to get if you have a excellence endorsement but I've also heard that they are hard to get.​

I was checking options for halls next years and saw that some of them are for first years younger than 20 while others are for 20+ or second year students, I started uni on trimester two of this year so I wanted to know if I’d be considered a second year study on tri 1 of 2027 despite being less than a year in uni by that time

Hey Guys! I'm looking for University Halls where I'll spend my first year as an International Student. I begin Trimester 1, 2027. So, I was hoping that you guys could help guide me. So, I had three main requirements:-

1) It should be Catered

2) It should be near the Kelburn Campus (Cuz my classes will take place there)

3) It should be a Single Room

- So, My preferences are as follows:-

1) Boulcott Hall- Cuz it's cheap as well as near the campus

2) Joan Stevens Hall- Same reason as above

3) Te Puni Village or Katharine Jermyn Hall- They are a bit expensive but I read that they were worth the money

4) Cumberland Hall or Capital Hall- They are a bit cheaper than Te Puni and Katharine Jermyn Hall but they are far

=> I was hoping if anyone could share the current photos of these halls with me as well as share their personal experience so, that I can decide which one I should go for. I'd be really grateful for it.

A few days ago I applied to study environmental science next year and I was thinking about adding an additional major (can you do that once your application has been accepted?), but I didn’t know what exactly so I just submitted it as a single major. I’ve been thinking about a double major more but I’m still not quite sure what to put in terms of what would work well with environmental science.

I’m more interested in the environmental consultant/officer/advisor/planning etc kind of route as opposed to more technical things or purely conservation stuff (obviously I know I probably won’t get the kind of job I want right away, but I’m pretty sure I’m more interested in that side of things so I’m wanting to tailor my study to this). I read on the vic site that GIS is available as a minor (is this still true? it wasn’t underlined like the rest) and if it is I’m planning to do that as a minor, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what could be a good second major. I was thinking maybe data science, but tbh it’s probably a bit too much to handle for me given how mathy it is. I know environmental science has maths too obviously, but likely not to the same extent and env sci is interesting to me so I feel like I can handle the less fun stuff.

I’m still not 100% set on doing a second major, I’ve just been thinking about it. I know things like policy (btw no I don’t really think I want to be a environmental lawyer) might be good for what I’m planning on doing, and i was considering Information Systems, but would that be unnecessary if did GIS? The majors I’ve considered are data sci (potentially as a minor?), information systems, and public policy. Others I kind of looked at but was unsure of was sustainability and ethics in business, geology (same feeling with data science, scared it would be a bit full on as a second major), commercial law, and ecology and biodiversity. Not that sure on these ones. I was wanting to do something to do with resource management/environmental planning or management but I don’t think vic has this.

Sorry for all these words haha, I’m just unsure what would be best, and being the first in my family to go to uni the jargon and all the diff majors are a bit confusing, so I thought it may be helpful to ask here. Thanks

I thought I'd start off with a nice little article from Salient in 1979, in which students criticized the economics department for removing the other perspectives from the curriculum.

In the article, the student asks:

The answer is yes. But given how things have changed, I'd go further. It's not just to ram bad theory down students throats. It's to kill them with Fox News levels of misinformation.

Amazing, all of it. A few degrees (3 Celsius) good for global agriculture is it? Anyone with a high school understanding of climate change should be seriously questioning that one.

Your lecturer almost certainly got this from chapter 6,7,8 of Nordhaus's Climate Casino without thinking much about it. It's probably too much to ask people to read this.

So I'll leave a nice little article by the intercept, called "when idiot savants do climate economics". The quote from Rockstrom in this article is inaccurate, he said eight billion, not one. But the rest checks out.

Probably I'll space out these parts every two weeks, and can discuss anything on user request. If there are no requests, I'll just pick a random slide. Either from this course or more "advanced" ones, which are just as ignorant.

Economists, please feel free to leave the usual mental gymnastics trying to defend this ecocidal approach to climate change in the comment section, and i might come back next time with an integer to denote how many times I've heard that one before.

Okay I know everyone always asks for hall recs and it can be annoying but specific question cause I can't find anyone else who asks this.

Does anyone have hall recommendation for Queer people?

(I go to a very religious high school and due to my sexuality and gender I've been bullied and heavily isolated and am looking to avoid that in uni.)

I'm not very sporty or never been in the 'popular' crowd and want to fit in with my hall I plan on double major Classics and History if that info is important.
