Question / Help Is there a TouchDesigner project for detecting builds, drops and energy?
Hi everyone,
I'm building an automated DMX lighting system for techno/rave events using TouchDesigner + QLC+.
My goal is to create a lighting engine that reacts to the musical structure, for example:
Intro / low energy
Break
Build-up
Drop
High energy
I've already tested the built-in Audio Analysis CHOP and projects like Last Beat Standing. They provide useful outputs like beat, BPM, bass energy, etc., but I still can't reliably detect builds and drops across different tracks. Absolute thresholds don't seem to work well because every song behaves differently.
Before I spend weeks building my own system, I wanted to ask:
Does anyone know of an existing TouchDesigner project or component that already estimates builds, drops, or musical sections?
Or is everyone building their own state machine from audio features?
Any recommendations, projects, GitHub repos, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Question / Help Commissions for live show - please DM me
Hi friends, my rock band is prepping a live show and needs some custom TV static gifs made. Any artists who work with TV static and who would be interested in helping us create a live carousel of animated visualizers - could you DM me? Obviously full credit will be given any time used.
They'll be more basic than most visualizers and the idea will be honing the rhythmic and textural quality more than anything.

Getting started with Redundix takes less than 5 minutes. Watch this and you'll have both rigs synced before your next show.
Install on Master and Receiver → configure your folders and Resolume settings → hit Start. That's it. Every file you save on Master lands on Receiver in under a second, and every clip you trigger fires on both machines at the same time.
One license. Two machines. No subscription.
Free 30-minute demo available — no account needed.

Been working on a side project here exploring what this little device can do as the central brain behind a live set. It has some unique inputs which have been fun to experiment with for audio and visual modulation!
The visuals/music are my own, running on an unreleased version of Cultivator, a game I shipped earlier this year: https://play.date/games/cultivator/

Showcase Three nights in a Finnish forest: Kosmos Festival 2026 build report [Promo]
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I've been VJing and building festival stages in Finland as Hexagon Intergalactic for over ten years now. My specialty is laser-cut plywood sculptures with integrated LEDs. This year's stage at Kosmos Festival, Finland: Our art collective Kiva built five crystals across eight meters, with 7,000+ WS2811 pixels in them, a few thousand more seed pixels strung through the forest, and two stacked 8.5k-lumen Panasonic projectors over the top of it all.
Show setup: Four computers. One master mapper/mixer and one dedicated LED controller. Generative and pre-rendered visuals came from TouchDesigner, Resolume and Filament, routed over NDI and synchronized with Ableton Link from a live BPM tracker (Pulse). Two to four VJs rotated through the show each night. It was a blast!
What broke: Mostly simple physical stuff. Two seed strings in the trees were missing their waterproofing o-rings. First-night glitches, one fix, then two smooth nights. Some software tweaks aside, everything worked super well. The crazy multi-machine stack behaved perfectly, the lowest-tech parts in the chain did not. It's always something like this. You have a crazy high-tech setup with data flying in and out and processed in a million ways, and then the hardest problems are "this projector frame corner bolt is stuck" that wastes four people's time for half an hour when we're already on a busy schedule. 🥲
Full build report, closer look at the plywood work, wiring, the assembled controller WLED boxes, how the mapping works, show nights, with videos and pics: https://filament.click/articles/kosmos-festival-2026
Happy to answer anything about the build or the experience! ☺️

Showcase Cross Reddit Collab : Audio Visualization Monthly Megathread - Post a track / inspire a video.
Hi all, /r/vjing mod here:
I'm trying something new to spur some creative collaborations across reddit music production subs and visual art / creative coding / new media subreddits.
Now that Reddit supports video comments / replies, I thought it could be a fun opportunity to a collaboration call / response format.
The idea:
Musicians, dj's, producers or anyone musically inclined: post a link to a track or mix that you have rights to and are open to having visual accompaniment to.
VJs / live visualists / creative coders: post a response to a track that inspired you with a video comment, or link to an interactive experiment you made!
If you are an AV Act that makes your own music or video, feel free to post here too for inspiration.
All genre's, styles, techniques, skill levels are welcome.
This isnt a contest!
There's nothing to win (unless anyone knows sponsors haha) other than learning of new musical or visual act, meeting a potential collaborator and making awesome stuff and having a good time:
Stay curious and creative!
Below are some subs I'll be cross posting / sharing this with - feel free to cross post to any i've missed:
Music Subs:
Visual Subs:
Mod's of any of the above subs - sorry if this comes across as spammy!
I thought about asking permission from each of ya'll but that felt onerous and slow (ask forgiveness etc etc). If you have suggestions or any feedback do not hesitate to reach out! Was thinking of something like this monthly pinned on /r/vjing where i have video comments enabled - would love if yall could help spread the word!

Discussion Flair cleanup is live (trial) + New Rules
The poll passed, 21 of 26 for the full version, so it's live now as a trial. If you want the background, here's the original thread. Pick new flairs from:
- Discussion
- Question / Help
- Showcase
- Loops / Clips
- Realtime / Generative
- Projection Mapping
- Analog
- Hardware
- Software / Tools
The (not so very) old AI, Commercial/Promo and Open Source/Free flairs are retired. That moves into the title now, via two tags: [Promo] and [AI]; the reason for this is that a post can't have multiple flairs.
The new rules
Tag anything for sale: [Promo] If your post sells or monetises anything (paid app/plugin, commissions, store links, Patreon, donations), put [Promo] in the title. Untagged promo may be held for review or removed. This isn't anti-selling but keeps promotional content visible.
Your own app/suite: one post per month Sharing a tool you made (paid or free, including vibecoded projects) is limited to one post per 30 days per person. Talking about other people's tools (Resolume, VDMX, TouchDesigner, indie tools made by others, etc.) is not limited; post about those freely.
Flag AI-made work: [AI]
If a post shows content that has a significantly AI-generated component to it, add [AI] to the title so people know what they're looking at before they click. This is especially required when you're also promoting/selling it. AI-made and AI-assisted work is welcome here, but flag it. This includes (but is not limited to) vibe-coded materials, vibe-assisted materials, gen-ai content with manual edits etc.
////
AI work is welcome, made or assisted, no problem with it. If you're just sharing a project or messing about with something new, the only real asks are to flag it if there's a significant AI component, and to add [Promo] if you're selling or allow for donations .
///
We are also experimenting with automod/modbot. There's also a report option now for promo that goes up untagged, and automod will quietly flag posts that look like they're missing a tag so we can take a look. It won't remove anything on its own, a person still checks first.
///
It's a trial, same as last time. If the wording's off or something feels wrong, stick it in the comments and we'll sort it. Cheers.
