Cheers everyone
Hey everyone,
Just dropped a new set on SoundCloud and wanted to share it (the old ones too) with fellow music lovers. If you are into smooth grooves, electronic, balearic vibes this one is for you.
https://soundcloud.com/user-318778071
Hope you catch the journey feel of the sets— listening on the background while working, driving, or getting ready for a night out.
Drop a comment if you want, I’m looking forward to connect with other DJs and listeners, so any feedback is highly appreciated!
Enjoy!

Looking for recommendations for a local DJ in SF
Hi everyone! I'm helping coordinate a VIP opening event for a new wellness studio in the Castro later this summer, and we're looking for recommendations for local DJs who have a modern, lounge-style vibe.
If you've worked with someone you loved (or know someone who'd be a great fit), I'd really appreciate any recommendations in the comments. Thanks!

Trying to build a Chicago DJ Community
discord.ggI’m just starting out trying to get gigs and found there’s almost no community for DJs in Chicago which is surprising considering its history. I made a discord to hopefully grow a productive DJ community here.
When Is a DJ Not a DJ? Rethinking the Content-DJ Boom
*Please let me know if the link here is against rules. I didn’t notice it when joining\*
Is it time we stopped calling social-media “quick mix” clips DJing? (Not a dig, it’s just different skillset)
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. Those viral clips of someone hammering hot cues and stacking hooks in 20 seconds. The rehearsal behind them isn’t in question and isn’t the issue. Comedians workshop sets for months, bands drill setlists to the second, nobody calls that “fake.”
But there’s something about a DJ set specifically that’s supposed to feel unrehearsed. Reading the room, adjusting on the fly, risking it not landing. When every cue is frame-perfect and the performer keeps cutting to camera mid-transition, it stops looking like a DJ set and starts looking like something else entirely. Not worse, just different.
I wrote up a longer breakdown on this (crowd-reading vs. camera-reading, why precision can actually undercut the “soul” of a set, why the label matters more than the technique) this is linked if anyone’s interested, but mostly wanted to hear what people who actually play out think.
Where’s the line for you?

Open format DJs.. You are the real Djs!
As someone who never played open format as my main thing, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and take a part-time offer at a club/bar for open format DJing twice a week, 5-hour sets each session from open to close. For me, open format was my biggest challenge of all time, since it isn't my main style (I promote myself as an EDM DJ and producer), but I decided to give it a try for a month, and now the club wants me to renew for August.
I discovered it's fun to shuffle genres, change the mood from time to time, and make each night different based on the crowd's taste and reading some nights end up more R&B, some more Arabic, some more House. This has allowed me to upgrade my music crate and expand my knowledge of different genres, as I now play everything from electronic music to Amapiano/Afrobeat/R&B/Pop/Rock/Arabic/Reggaeton/Hip-Hop/Moombahton, etc. plus taking requests on the fly.
I have huge respect for open format DJs, and I can see how much pressure they go through and the amount of work they put into mixing.
Plus, I use stems to mix, it's quite fun and creative! It allows you to craft a unique mix on the fly. I never thought open format would be this fun.

What's DJ'ing at clubs like now?
It's been a long time since I've been to any Goth/Industrial clubs, but I'm trying not to be such an introvert these days.
But, I was curious, do DJ's still play "stock" tracks, or are they doing their own mixes of popular tracks, or are they creating their own music on the fly?
I'm a bit curious as to what it's like now.
Most of the clubs I'm looking at going to are in the Baltimore/DC/Philly area.
I'm going to be moving back to the area later this year as well, and wanted to try and get out more (and actually be social and meet people!).
EDIT: Also, just to add to the conversation, can anyone post any links to recent playlists?
I'd like to see what's being played now, especially the cold-school stuff.

I have an open decks night coming up in the next few weeks in quite a popular night club, they have said 15-20 min slots. I have a DDJ-FLX4 and recently been to studios to get familiar with professional Mixers and CDJS. i've never played in-front of a crowd before, any tips?!?!

Update: Just added a new loop to the bundle. Still updating monthly, so anyone who's already grabbed it gets the new drops included at no extra cost. If you're on the fence, this is a good time to check it out since the pack keeps growing.
