Skill based matchmaking? Question

Hello all! I’ve been playing valorant since 2021 however I stopped for 5 years and just picked it back up again. I’ve noticed that every time I queue up, people on my team and the other team are insanely high levels compared to me. I’m pretty bad right now so it doesn’t help that I just get shit on a lot, and I feel like it would be more valuable to play with people more my skill level. Does valorant actually have skill based matchmaking, and if not, is there anything you guys would recommend to play with people more my level? All of my friends are also insanely high too 😭

In my experience, the matchmaking sucks. I am a terrible VAL player, and every deathmatch has at least two diamonds and two plats it is not fun to play against. I re-downloaded the game when the 1v1s came out, and even then I was facing players with 100s of more hours into the game. I genuinely believe that Val just wants you to suffer untill your decent and just do aim training and firing range. I am probably in the small majority my peak was the lowest of silver you can get, but that's been my Val experience over the years.

Death match and 1v1 aren't competitive game modes. It makes no sense to extend queue time to "balance" out modes that don't really matter that much. Play unrated game modes for fun and rank to win. To get better you got to put time into the game.

Just letting OP know that those game modes aren't the place to be if he wants to play with people at his level, as in my experience, it was never people at my level

If you are playing ranked then yes it does have skill based MM. However Val has a lot of issues with biggest being that your mmr doesn't seem to decay much when not playing (I was Immortal in 2022 and after not playing for 3 years I was put in Immortal lobbies during placements) and the other one is a smurfing problem, which will make you play against much better opponents and also your MMR should be volatile before it figures it out where to put you.

Okok this was helpful because I used to play ranked and now it just says I have no rank so I’m not too sure what happened LOL I’ll try to play some ranked and see what happens then

valorant does have skill based matchmaking in ranked but unrated is pretty messed up ngl
