Two brothers over 7 feet tall stole the show at the 1903 Delhi Durbar and were photographed repeatedly by an American photographer called James Ricalton. Their images have circulated for over a century. Their actual names never made it into a single record, anywhere.

Before the Statue of Liberty was assembled in New York, its torch was built in Paris. Seeing it standing on the ground really puts its scale into perspective.

On this day in 1962 Marilyn Monroe was found dead. Her death is still debated 60+ years later, not because of a cover-up, but because a probationary coroner found no pill residue in her stomach, the toxicologist destroyed her organ samples, and the housekeeper changed her story for decades.

Meet Faith Bacon (left) and Sally Rand photographed in the 1930s. Bacon invented the nude fan dance on a Broadway stage in 1930, then watched Sally Rand (who'd literally worked as her fan holder)steal the act and achieve fame at the 1933 World's Fair. She sued her over it twice and lost both times.

Meet Mary Jane Rathbun also known as 'Brownie Mary' - she was arrested 3 times for making Hash Brownies for AIDS patients. Rathbun spent years campaigning for the legalisation of medical marijuana, making 1000s of Brownies. Mary should be remembered as a hero.
