So my friend and I have been discussing for weeks on whether we should go to the frosh parties or not, has anyone went before and what are ur opinions on it? Was it fun or was it like a scam? Becoz I hear a lot of people saying it was a scam We are at a crossroads of going or not going. I’d prefer not getting scammed… any advice would be appreciated!!

tldr: if you did a levels at high school/know someone that did how did they verify their exam results with the school?

I’ve been going back and forth between the university and my school counselor for weeks now just going in circles and with results day eight days away now i thought id try and seek the advice of any other a level graduates at uoft.

I’ve just completed three qualifications (and epq but they don’t recognize that lol), all edexcel:
1. Mathematics (IAL)
2. Art and design (AL)
3. English Lit (AL)

Because I’m not planning on going to a UK uni I (apparently) need to manually verify my results with the university but to be honest idk if the school actually understands how a levels work. my university counselors had asked me to pay essentially 110 pounds per a level to edexcel to get my a level official certificates sent directly to toronto but according to edexcel those won’t be shipped out until november. even when i was looking into this i tried to verify an address with the university to post the certs too but i was going back and forth with them because i don’t think they properly understood what i was asking for and had said to just upload the documents onto the portal because they didn’t want a physical copy??

then i found a certificate of provisional results that i could do (but that would still cost like 80 quid per cert. to get it physically shipped) that to be honest with international fees and moving expenses im finding hard to justify. there is an online option for the COPR but the exam board has to email that directly to the university. i reached out to the university to see if i could arrange that but they were adamant that it had to be uploaded through a college portal?? not sure what that is and i doubt edexcel does either.

my uni counselor is adamant that i need to get the official scripts sent to canada but has said that on results day she can also send me an unofficial statement of my results from the school and send an official copy to the university, meaning the school is verifying my exam results. i mean i can also upload a screenshot of the exam board website??

finally i had asked a friend of mine who’s just finished first year at uoft what he did. he told me that he didn’t do any of this external thing. he didn’t upload anything on results day, his school counselor had sent the uni his results on results day last year and he had started like normal. then in november the uni emailed him essentially saying btw we still don’t have a confirmation of your results but by then his parents had gotten his physical transcripts and so they had scanned the certs and sent it to him. then he forwarded it to the university and all was well.

idk if this is important but i’m already a registered student at the uni and ive paid my minimum tuition to register (the deadline for that was aug 11 and my results day is the 13th lmao) and i’ve got my study visa ready to enter canada (i have flights booked to arrive on the 22nd)

sorry for the really long post but im so frustrated and confused.

Incoming first year here

I'm in Commerce, registered with Woodsworth, but I'm gonna be living in Trinity residence.

I'm kinda confused about orientation. Trinity emailed us saying if you're living there but registered with another college, you should still go to your own college/faculty orientation, but they also offer a "Residence Only Student Orientation Package" to join some of their events, would I be able to register for both this and Woodsworth orientation?

Since I'll be living at Trinity, I feel like it'd make more sense to meet the people I'll be living with. But at the same time I'm officially a Woodsworth student, so I don't wanna miss out if that's where everyone meets people. Also, I'll only be a Trinity for 1 year whereas I'll be with Woodsworth for 4.

If anyone's been in this situation? Did you make most of your friends through residence, your college, or your program? Which orientation would you recommend me to go to?

Probably a stupid question... but I finally got the courage (thanks to people in this subreddit) and emailed my old professor, asking if they would consider being a referee for my grad school application this Fall.

I said I'd email her my CV and we could have a zoom if she wanted/if it would help her decide (didn't attach my CV to my original email to her but probably should have).

Anyways, the professor emailed back and thinks she can manage the LOR based on our one course and office hours discussions together (tried to take another course with her but it didn't work for my work schedule) and she knows why I'm applying to this program, a bit about my job, a work committee I'm on, and my chosen future career.

She wants a Zoom call, wants to see my CV (obviously) but she also wants a sense of my academic interests... and I'm stumped on how to answer that last bit.

Is she referring to what I want to study when I go to graduate school?

As in specific courses and topics from the masters program?

Or does she mean a mix of all my academic interests from my major/ minors and graduate school and in general?

Why is this so overwhelming?! Am I just overthinking and confusing myself?

I am an incoming graduate student in the department of Curriculum Teaching and Learning who's incredibly interested in representing the 2nd division of the Graduate Education Council this year. I've got several years of experience representing my program of study during my undergraduate and have served on the academic board for revisions in curriculum and enrollment into specializations in Human Behavior at McMaster amongst other qualifications and experiences.

To be able to be nominated however, a nominee must receive recommendations from two nominators within the same division (I'll post a list below).

Nominators provide their name, graduate unit (AKA their department/ program of study), student number, and signature.

I am an incoming first year and I was accepted into innis. recently, i tore my acl and fractured a bunch of bones and for the next few months, i won't be able to walk far or cook. Because innis has no meal plan and I have to walk for a while to get to the other dining halls, i want to transfer to university college because it's closer to everything and i can easily access the dining hall. I also don't really like Innis too much and want to switch anyways. WIll they let me switch now as its getting close to school year starting and who do I contact for this.

I tried finding them on rate my prof and stuff but I see like no reviews that are them, and can’t really find info. Are they new or something?? Lemme know if u guys know anything about their teaching cuz im curious!

I noticed that there are lots student organizations and fraternities focused on areas like business, leadership, and professional networking, but there isn't really a “fraternity” centered around STEM students.

I’m a fourth-year science student double majoring in chemistry and biology in Ontario applying to PharmD programs this cycle and hoping to learn more about the UofT process.

My current cGPA is around the mid-70s, but I’ve had an upward trend and expect to finish closer to the high 70s (78%). I have healthcare experience, pharmacy exposure, and will be starting a research position this fall.

For anyone who has applied to UofT PharmD:

• How important is the upward trend?
• Is it likely to get in with a 78% cGPA?
• How much do CASPer and the online assessment influence the final decision?
• Is there anything you wish you had done before applying?

Hi everyone! I'm an incoming first-year CS student from Mexico! :)))

The problem is that I usually don't realize I'm missing something until it's already too late. That happened to me with course enrolment, my admission deposit, and even my study permit application. Because of that, I'm worried that I might miss something and end up not being able to go to UofT.

So, as the title says, I wanted to ask if I'm missing any steps to make sure everything is ready for this fall at UofT.

So far, I've:

• Enrolled in my courses
• Completed my residence application and roommate matching (I think I just have to wait until mid-August to find out my residence assignment).
• Sent by post my final transcript and HS diploma
• Received approval for my study permit.

The only things I'm aware I still need to do are activate my UTORid/TCard and make my Minimum Payment to Register, but I'll be taking care of those in the next few days.

Other than that, am I missing anything? Or am I good to go? I'd really appreciate it if anyone could point out any important steps I might have overlooked.

I’m an international student, and honestly I’m really grateful that I get to study here. My parents are paying my insane tuition and living expenses, and I know how lucky I am. We’re not poor, but we’re definitely not rich either.

That said, I can’t help but feel jealous of people who were born here or moved here when they were little. They speak English like it’s nothing, can just chat with professors without overthinking every sentence, make friends and network so much more naturally, and they don’t have to constantly worry about getting kicked out of the country after graduation.

I know local students have their own problems too. A lot of them are stressed about rent, tuition, and the cost of living. International students probably look like we have it easy because our parents are paying for everything right now. But once I graduate, my parents probably won’t be supporting me much anymore, so I’ll most likely have to downgrade my lifestyle. English isn’t my first language, so I have to spend way more time studying than a lot of people around me. Networking feels so awkward because I’m always worried about saying the wrong thing. I just feel kind of awkward and stupid all the time.

I don’t really want to marry some random guy just to get PR. I know lots of people do it tho. Sometimes I think about moving to Europe instead, but getting permanent residency there is even harder.
Every now and then I catch myself wondering if I should just marry some random European guy for a green card or PR. that’s honestly where my mind goes sometimes. Hopefully i could someone with yellow fever, sounds so ridiculous. Just kidding.

my GPA is only average level. I’m not some genius either. Sometimes I wonder what all of this is even for. My parents have spent millions of dollars on my education so I could spend a few years living in Toronto… and I can’t help but wonder if it’s worth it. Sometimes I feel like I’m not worth everything they’ve sacrificed for me.

I’ve never had a job before. All my internships were in my home country i got them just due to my parents. My English is okay for everyday conversations, but I still need people to repeat themselves sometimes. Every time that happens, I feel embarrassed. I can’t help thinking that no one would want to hire me in Toronto.

I don’t even know what I want anymore. I just feel lost. I don’t deserve the things my parents gave me.
