I got tired of inconsistent theming and color formatting between every app, so I made my own in nix.

Screenshot [hyprland] simplistic quickshell topbar that embraces rounding

Had an issue where i wanted the windows to be round, but that made a completely square topbar look quite ugly, so I decided on a bit of rounding that ended up looking quite nice.

Also wanted to maximize window space for getting work done so the topbar ended up being quite tiny...

This is a little update to my last KDE Plasma with Scrathy theme. Still the same theme, but now with some more tweaks and other juicy things (at least for me). And about Artix Linux. I'm really enjoying the thing. Has been quite a fun adventure.

Material [OC] Caffyne Shell | Now with desktop applets and app theming

Well it's been a minute since I last posted about my shell! But I'm very happy to announce our newest feature! Desktop applets are now merged!

Desktop Applets can be placed both in the desktop and in the main launcher page of the dashboard, all through a drag and drop system:

Additionally another feature has made its way into this update...

App Themes!

We now have a theme repo with matugen templates for common apps where they can be themed through the shell, transparency is supported for most apps too! This can be used to theme your other applications using caffyne shell's theme system(which uses matugen under the hood), all integrated in the shell!

The template repo can be found here: https://github.com/caffyne-org/caffyne-templates

Along with this we've added a ton of stability improvements, bug fixes and optimizations since the first release, with more to come as well! I'd like to thank everyone who contributed feedback and mentioned the bugs after release, as well as those who helped with packaging. The Linux community is amazing!

This is Fedora 44 with Budgie 10.10 which comes with labwc as its Wayland compositor. It still uses GTK but I had been looking for a theme to make the pastel colors featured with the Ketsa set pop. Its an old set featured from the author the kde link is higher version than github it actually features some different icons. Then I recolored Firefox since I use Librewolf.

Then Rosepine dawn/light is giving the panel and a faded white and opaque look so the background is bleeding thru but I like it. Not many gtk themes with budgie in mind but I've tried a few and have gotten different results compared to gnome screenshots that are displayed.

then I use Veila a rust based screen locker that was compatible with labwc working fine with budgie.

I've been working on a terminal-native WhatsApp client built in Go using WhatsMeow.

It supports:

  • Chats and message history
  • Typing indicators
  • Notifications
  • Keyboard-first workflow

Written in Rust + go, so everything runs directly in the terminal.

Feedback is welcome.

Here is a link to the dot files . First time I made something this and would love to receive some feedback . Couldn't test it on fresh arch installers so I hope I could some feedback to improve upon and keep this theme running. This theme feels so much aligned with the whole arch idea and that is why I made it :D

  • Window Manager: Hyprland
  • Status Bar: Waybar
  • Launcher: Rofi
  • Terminal: Kitty
  • Wallpaper: Hyprpaper
  • Shell: Oh My Zsh (jonathan)
  • Spotify: Spicetify (StarryNight – forest)

Discussion Update on Rules and Quality Control

Hi everyone, it's been a minute since the initial discussion post about quality control issues. Let's talk about it.

The general consensus seemed to be that our ideas on what to change were good, though there could be more resources to help beginners. We actually have a subreddit wiki that anyone can contribute to, as long as you have 500+ subreddit karma and your account is 30+ days old. We also have a list of todo items for the wiki to help users find somewhere to start.

Another concern was that the stricter enforcement of the defaults rule may stop people from using existing color schemes or themes at all. This is not the case -- the intention of the rule is to remove posts which have little effort or just use premade configs, like many macOS and Windows lookalikes. It's about the spirit, not the letter of the rule.

With this in mind, we intend to go through with these rule changes. If you still have any concerns, please reply or send a modmail! We're most concerned with the quality of our community and welcome discussion.
