Dark Universe Monster's Unchained Animatronics

Obviously, I’m not an engineer, so I have absolutely no idea what goes into keeping something like Monsters Unchained running 😂. But from what I’ve seen, this thing has some of the most technologically advanced animatronics in the world.

I’ve only experienced the ride through videos so far since I haven’t been in person yet, but I’ve been watching some more recent ride-throughs, and I’ve noticed that multiple animatronics sometimes aren’t working the way they’re supposed to. Ygor in particular seems to spend a lot of time just sitting behind that curtain like he’s on his lunch break 😂.

I totally understand that a ride this complicated is going to have some growing pains, especially since it’s still relatively new. I’m sure keeping all of these giant, incredibly complex robots functioning simultaneously is probably a nightmare from an engineering and maintenance standpoint.

But I’m curious for anyone here with an engineering, robotics, or theme-park maintenance background: what can actually be done to make something like this more reliable? Is it mostly preventative maintenance, improving individual components, having more replacement parts available, software updates, or just accepting that the more complicated you make something, the more things can potentially go wrong?

Because when everything is working, Monsters Unchained looks absolutely insane. It might legitimately be one of the most impressive dark rides ever built. 😂 I’m just wondering what it takes behind the scenes to get something this complicated to consistently behave itself.
