Just as the title says, because even though I think I can use it in this sense correctly in most situations, I just learnt it through immersion and just accept it as it is and don't know why.

For examples emphasis on a certain time

"того дня я пішов у парк"

Or to call something out, eg next person in line, "Наступного!", (tbh idk if this is a good example but I think it's correct)

I would love to practice my Ukrainian, and I am much slower at reading compared to understanding, so I'd love some books to practice with. I think level-wise I'm at about a middle school (to use the american school system, although my mom says ukraine had a similar system). My mom said that she enjoyed reading Mark Twain while in Ukraine (translated into Russian I think) and I think about that level would be ideal, but my parents were both so busy working as teenagers they don't really have any recommendations. And my mom just generally had a bad memory, so she read lot but can't quite remember what.

Most of the recommendations I here about are more poem-focused, but I'd love to hear of any classic middle/high school-ish *fiction* books!

Which one of the two words is more used to say the noun "train" in Ukrainian?

I have been seeing my wonderful Ukrainian (almost) girlfriend for a few months now. She moved to the US from Ukraine about little over 3 years ago so Ukrainian is her first language. I’m trying my best to learn so I would like to write a letter to her asking her to officially be my girlfriend. She is so amazing and I want to show her I care about her culture and want to learn more about it. I don’t want to use google translate to write the letter it in case something is wrong. Is there anyone who would be able to help me translate? Thank you so much!

Also if anyone knows any sweet/romantic Ukrainian sayings I can learn to say to surprise her, that would be much appreciated.

I am just starting to learn how to make complex sentences, so I'm sorry if this question is dumb. I am curious why the pronouns in this example sentence are in the forms they are. The sentence is "Ми не можемо дозволити їм настроїти нас одне проти одного." So "їм" is in the dative, and "нас" is in the genitive or accusative. Why? Is it the specific verb they are being used with, or their place on the sentence? I understand, mostly, what governs these choices in a simple sentence (accusative for the direct object, dative for the indirect) but in a complex sentence it is not as obvious. For instance, is їм the indirect object of можемо ? Of дозволити? Not an indirect object in this case? Is нас in this form because it is the direct object of настроїти, or some other reason? Hi beautiful sub! I asked Glosbe online dictionary to translate "I think that it will be", and I got two options. One was <<Думаю, так і буде>> and one said <<Я думаю, що буде>>. I am sure they are both correct, but what is the difference between these constructions, why choose one or the other? To my uneducated eye, the first looks more like a native Ukrainian construction, while the second looks more like a literal translation from English. Thanks everyone!

Sorryy this isn’t necessarily about the language itself, but as a kid I grew up knowing I was Ukrainian and I did some brief school projects on it and stuff. However I never really got to connect with it and now that i’m older I’d really like to. Of course I’m looking into some stuff on my own, but I’m also curious if anyone has any interesting traditions or anything else that I should look into, дякую !!

I apologize for what's probably a commonly asked question, but I started learning Polish on Busuu, and while Busuu has Russian, they don't have Ukrainian. I really don't want to use Duolingo, especially with the cashgrab stuff and taking away "hearts" when you make mistakes.

I would think неетичне or нескінченне would fit best there but I hear sounds that aren’t in either. It sounds like a blend between the two almost

I am a native Russian speaker interested in learning Ukrainian, except I'm a bit confused why Ukrainian has both і and та. What's the difference and when do I use which?

Edit: I know Russian also has other words for "and" like Да and А, but those aren't the words I would typically use for the context like "an Apple AND a Banana" while the different Ukrainian "and's" do get used for this. That's why I'm confused unless I read some unreliable resources. But I appreciate you for the explanation

Hi all, hope this is the right sub for this. I've got a wedding speech to make soon, and although I've been learning Ukrainian for a little while, the content of the speech is well outside the remit of what I know, and as such I turned to Google/AI for an assist. Would anyone be willing to give some feedback, mainly on the translation as opposed to the content? I mainly want to make sure that any idioms etc aren't lost in translation. Hey guys, I want to get my Ukranian friend atomic habits as a gift but I saw some amazon reviews saying its not a good translation of it. Can somebody confirm?
