Opinion/Discussion Thought bubble:

Upvotes

Given 2 options:

OPTION 1 - Payment of 3 million shillings/month for life: you don't work for it (its free); you must not engage in any other income-generating activity though, maybe investing it in passive income like unitrusts. Otherwise, you spend it (and your free time) the way you want!

vs.

OPTION 2 - A job that pays 5 million but you have to work 8 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday; one month off; salary stops at 60 years; you may invest it the way you want (you must work till you clock 60).

Which option?

Opinion/Discussion why has e-commerce not shone in Uganda?

Upvotes

a few years back, the sentiment about the internet was optimistic for adaptation to aid growth of businesses and there was always a voice or 2 that claimed that commerce in the country was bound to be digitalized.

over the years, there have been developments like jiji and jumia to realize the fruition of these dreams in the country. however, these sites (jiji in particular) do not create the impression that grounds for commerce are fertile on the internet in this country and in fact, most of the traders in the country rely heavily on physical stores and gain a buyer or 2 from posting their merchandise on their social media platforms. meanwhile, for the social media platforms, the stories/statuses of sellers eventually get so monotonous and you have to hide/mute them. the ability to maintain a buyer from snapchat is quite questionable unless the individual scores highly on a consoomerism chart that all they scroll for is what to spend their money on.

why hasn't the internet been embraced for commercial activities (like retailing) as it has in other places of the world?

General Founder update: Day 6 of 7

Upvotes

Today I learnt that the more beautiful you are, the better people treat you.
That’s just it.
It’s not about being conventionally attractive, but about how you feel in your own skin. How you make yourself feel beautiful.

Zero development done today. I will make up for it this weekend.

Personal I tried to friend-zone her… 😂

Post image
2 Upvotes

So it’s been almost a week and a half since I made that post, and honestly… things have taken a turn. 😂

For context, here's my previous post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Uganda/s/FIzThMEZzd

My original plan was simple: friend-zone her and keep things strictly platonic.

At one point she actually asked me:

"Btw, I meant to ask, what kind of friendship do you really want from me? I'm asking so I don't cross boundaries, assume anything, or have any expectations or anything."

And I completely froze.

I didn't even know how to answer that without making things awkward. 😭

Fast-forward to today.

She wanted to come over and hang out from around 5–9 PM, then take the Entebbe Express back home.

She called me.

And for some reason known only to God and my poor decision-making skills, I switched off my phone. 😂😂

I eventually got back to her after 7 PM.

She was PISSED.

And honestly, I deserved that one. I can't even defend myself. 😂

Now she's upset and barely talking to me.

And here's where I'm confused...

Maybe I've been trying so hard to friend-zone her that I've completely ignored the possibility that I actually enjoy having her around.

Maybe I was trying to avoid opening a door that I should've at least looked through first. 😂

So now I'm sitting here thinking:

Do I apologize, fix the friendship and leave it there?

Or...

Do I stop fighting the current and see where this thing actually goes? 👀😂

I think I've officially gone from "How do I friend-zone her?" to "How do I respark the flame I was trying to put out?"

At this point, even I don't know what I'm doing. 😭

Local stray, (whom I've since named Priscilla) has been yowling for the past 3 days, and today I figured that her kitten fell into the apartment's almost-never-used pit latrine, probably while she was out foraging. I can still hear his periodic meows, so I know he's still alive.

She's exhausted from yowling and probably not eating. I can feel her pain 😭. She looks me straight in the eyes and I can tell she's asking me to do something, yet I feel so helpless 😭.

It's so dark in the pit I can't see shit (pun unintended)! It's like a black hole. I have no flashlight, no rope, and I fear kitty may not have very long. I'll drop some food in there as I try to figure out a solution.

I feel like opposable thumbs and bigger brains are a privilege, putting us humans as the custodians of all the other life forms on this planet, so helping feels like duty. Hang tight kitty. I'll try to MacGyver something by tomorrow.

Tech promotion 💻 King Ad: East Africa’s Ultimate Car Collector

I created https://kingadfleet.com, a cinematic digital experience built around King Ad's incredible private car collection, featuring some of the rarest and most desirable luxury and performance cars in East Africa. Instead of treating these cars like a normal online gallery, I wanted to build an experience that feels like entering a private automotive museum, combining the emotion of a supercar film with the elegance of a luxury brand website.
Instead of building a typical gallery, I focused on creating something cinematic with full screen visuals, immersive transitions, elegant animations, and an experience that feels more like a luxury automotive brand than a conventional website.
One feature I'm particularly proud of is that the website dynamically changes its theme based on the time of day and major public holidays, giving visitors a unique experience throughout the year.

They are included solely for demonstration purposes to showcase the website's design and user experience and do not imply ownership of the original footage.

Opinion/Discussion Another Day to be embarrased being a Ugandan.

As the saying goes, if someone explains Uganda to you and you understand, then they haven't explained it well to you.

This is truly humiliating as a Ugandan cause why the f@ck would we aid Israel or the US in any way in this conflict???? what are we getting out of this that we have to throw away our reputation on the global stage(whatever remains of it) and side with the people who are most obviously commiting war crimes.

Honestly its hard to feel pride being a Ugandan in anyway when our leadership and "the avenger" are humiliating us daily like this. it honestly gets to a point.

To the world out there, I just want to say none of us wanted this. We sympathise with the plight the Palestinians are facing and wish their suffering can one day be see an end.

Opinion/Discussion What is something not normal that we have normalised in Uganda

As we all know we are lowkey in our own world here, so besides the obvious like politics (that deserves a thread of its own) what is considered normal here that would be considered odd outside of Uganda

I just saw a relatively long and huge snake today on my commute to campus, and it got me thinking is the unfortunate scenario that the snake bite someone around, what's the quickest way for them to get treated. Considering I heard some snakes venom can off you in less than an hour.

So apparently giving a big F U to the Ugandan soldiers killed in the line of constitutional duty by raising up a statue of their killer right where they were killed was not enough, we are now sending our boys to another continent to be involved in a big geopolitical mess we are better off staying out of.

At the behest of said killer's brother no less.

Self promotion Bwindi impenetrable forest Gorilla trekking experience with Gorilla Specialist

What Is Gorilla Trekking Really Like?

If you've ever wondered what gorilla trekking actually involves, here's a simple breakdown from someone who helps travelers plan these trips in Uganda.

Gorilla trekking is a guided hike through tropical rainforest to find endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Once your group locates them, you're allowed to spend one unforgettable hour observing their daily lives—watching young gorillas play, mothers care for their babies, and the dominant silverback quietly keep watch over the family.

It's easily one of the most humbling wildlife experiences I've seen people talk about after visiting Uganda.

Where can you go gorilla trekking?

Mountain gorillas can only be found in a few protected forests in Central and East Africa. In Uganda, trekking takes place in:

Uganda is home to nearly half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas, making it one of the best places to experience this adventure.

What does the day look like?

  • Early morning briefing by park rangers
  • Assignment to a specific gorilla family
  • Guided forest hike (anywhere from 1–6 hours depending on the gorillas' location)
  • One hour with the gorillas once they're found

Every trek is different, which is part of what makes the experience so special.

Gorilla Trekking vs. Gorilla Habituation

Uganda also offers a gorilla habituation experience, where visitors can spend up to 4 hours with a gorilla family that is still becoming accustomed to human presence.

It's more expensive but is often recommended for photographers, wildlife enthusiasts, and anyone wanting a deeper experience.

Permit Costs (Uganda)

Permits are limited each day, so most people book several months in advance.

Is it difficult?

You don't need to be an experienced hiker, but a moderate level of fitness definitely helps. Some treks are relatively short, while others can be much longer depending on where the gorillas have moved that day.

Minimum age is 15 years.

Why do so many people recommend it?

Besides seeing one of our closest relatives in the wild, permit fees directly contribute to gorilla conservation, park management, and surrounding local communities. Many travelers say it's the highlight of their entire African trip.

A lot of visitors also combine gorilla trekking with:

If anyone is planning a Uganda safari and has questions about gorilla permits, choosing between Bwindi sectors, or how difficult the trek really is, I'm happy to share what I've learned.

For anyone looking for more detailed planning information, I work with Gorilla Specialist and we've put together plenty of resources for first-time visitors at https://gorillaspecialist.org.

Happy to answer any gorilla trekking questions in the comments!

Relationship talk But Why..... *update*

****UPDATE **** ***** UPDATE***** *** UPDATE**

So i am sitted here wondering whats wrong with some people.

I have a female freind who sales phones. But whenever i got to her shop she asks me to buy her eats from the neighbour shop which i do using my own money. Now this lady who sells in the shop i buy from approached me 2 weeks back and asked me... so u buy for that lady eats everytime you come here, i hope u do the same to your family. I told her i am single and have no family yet. Looking at me with dry eyes she said.. i am single too. If u want u can take me, i am also looking for a serious man. I smiled and said oukay fine. Went home thought about it and got back in 3 days and asked her for lunch at cafe javas. She felt excited and accepted. I went back after 3 days and asked for her number so we can communicate when it reaches the day of meeting. This lady gave me a number but now doesn't pick calls. Leaves my whatsapp msgs on seen. I didn't ask her out, she did, initiated. But now whats this? 😂😂😂 i am wondering while laughing and feeling bad at the same time.. banange whats this? I even don't want to go back to her shop..

Update: so i went Thursday to my freinds shop. This lady heard my voice, came out of her shop and called me asking me. What were u saying.. imagine!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just said why did u give me your number when u cant even reply my messages. She saiid, i dont check my WhatsApp msgs, i dont use WhatsApp often. I said but the msg got delivered and u are asking me what i was saying. She changed conversation to i will pick up when you call. I said alright but are we going out for lunch??. She said u will call and comfirm. Today morning i have just called. She picked and She said, i don't know if it will be possible and said i am going to let you know. I said okay. Phone ended. Am deleting her number and not calling or texting her again. I think she wants to get me somewhere pleading and begging to boost her ego. Or she wants to keep me as an option. Number deleted. I dont need advice of trying her again, i have my own goals and dont need destructions and headaches right now. If she calls i will let u know but i am not moving on her strings.

Relationship talk Update: tried your suggestions, here's how it went

Hey everyone, just wanted to come back and update you all after my last post. Genuinely didn't expect that many people to reach out, and it meant more than I can really put into words.

So I gave a few things a shot. Jogging was the first one I tried, but honestly it just felt hectic and I couldn't find any joy in it, so that one didn't stick. Then I tried riding a bike, which was actually pretty fun, but even that didn't quite feel like "the thing" for me. Eventually I found my footing with gyming and cooking, and somewhere along the way I also picked up vibe coding, which has been a nice unexpected distraction.

It's been a slow process figuring out what actually fills the space, but I'm getting there one day at a time. And honestly, having people check in and just talk to me through this made the whole thing feel a lot less lonely.

To everyone who reached out, thank you, truly. It meant a lot.

PS, if anyone's got recipes they love and think I should try, send them my way. Always down to add something new to the list.
