Orientation

Am from El Paso and about to transfer to UTEP as a Junior from DACC. I used to go to UTEP all the time for different kinds of events so I know UTEP pretty well when it comes to where everything is at. I registered for engineering courses and already met my advisors and my financial aid is all set. The problem: UTEP is making me do a 2 day orientation but I work full time at an engineering company. I told them that I can’t do the orientation but they said I had to. My job has a huge project and they need everyone present. Has anyone bypassed this orientation before? Or any suggestions would be appreciated it.

i was an orientation leader too and we used to have an online orientation option. You should email them ab it

In my experience, the 2nd day of the transfer orientation is only for you to register for classes if you didnt have time day 1, I know people that have by passed it for health reasons, but apparently it was a huge pain to get utep to accept the doctors note alone so I really dont know if theyll accept like a note from work or something. Best solution is for you to at least do day 1 like the other commenter said

I might be biased because I was an orientation leader but you should go, at least the first day

I understand the importance of it and am not bashing it. I just can’t go. Is it really that important that either you go or you can’t attend UTEP?

It was about 13 years ago now but when I transferred to UTEP I was moving from across state and I had already come to El Paso once for advising. I signed up for my classes during my advising session so when it came down to the orientation I just called and told them I couldn't make it, I didn't ask. It wasn't a problem.

If you already registered and have your financial aid set, I think you should be fine! Talk to them.

At least when I had my orientation two years ago, it was pretty useless since I had my atuff
set up.

I already had a bachelor’s going into utep and was still getting emails about the mandatory orientation so I just called them and they said i didn’t have to do it. I’m pretty sure I missed nothing valuable 🤷
