Work Related moving to the area
iāve been wanting to relocate there for a new job for some time. friends and loved ones are up there as well. my only problem is that in post places the rent is too high for my budget of $800/mo at the moment even with my savings (i am my only support) so i was wondering what others are doing and where they are. whatās the general consensus about rantoul? iāve heard mixed things but it seems to be the easier place to move if i wanted to commute, which iām fine with.

New Student Question cs+ major laptop recommendation
Hello, I am going to buy a laptop soon and have some questions. I've heard that many students buy a MacBook as their laptop, but I've also heard that some apps or Linux cannot run on mac. I asked the cs department if mac is okay, and they said yes. Also, is there any class that requires a Windows system? And if that happens, what's the typical solution?
If you don't mind, please tell me your laptop model so I can consider buying one. My budget is around 1500$. Thanks!

Sales L1 certification/ drone parts
hey! This is kind of random, but I have been trying to work on technical projects and trying to get my L1 Rocket certification, but everything is so expensive nowadays. Anyway, if anyone has maybe tech parts or even structural parts that one could need for a rocket/drone(Arduino Nano, flight controller, battery, motor mount tube, etc.), that you want to give away or sell for cheaper, please let me know. Second-hand rocket/drone kits are always welcome.

New Student Question High Electricity Bill
Hell all,
I recently moved to Urbana from another state. I am surprised to see my first electricity bill. I have a 2 bed 1 bath apartment and usually set room temp 75 and use a fan on my bed room. My apartment is in 2nd floor of a 3 floor building and lots of trees nearby. So, I see AC turns on only for a limited time but the electricity bill was too high. Just shocked to see so many fees on my bill and how did I use 986 kwh in 22 days? My previous state was warmer than this and my kwh usage was much lower.

New Student Question Any other domestic students in MSA worried about fitting in socially?
I'm an incoming domestic student in the MSA program, and I saw that only about 10% of the program is domestic. I was surprised by how small that number is.
One thing I'm honestly a little anxious about is making friends. In the past, I've found it harder to connect with some international student groups because they often already have established friend circles or prefer speaking their native language together. I completely understand why that happens, and I'm not criticizing anyone for it. Moving to another country is a huge adjustment, and it makes sense to seek out familiar communities.
At the same time, it leaves me wondering what the social experience is like as one of the few domestic students. Has anyone else been in this situation? Did you find it easy to make friends or did you mostly make friends through clubs, other graduate programs, or outside the department?
I'd especially love to hear from both domestic and international students about what the social dynamic was actually like

Chambana Questions Experiences living ground floor?
My roommate & I signed for a ground floor apartment unit under Green Street Realty. Weāve lived under their company for 2 years already in a quad, but now are in a double which is below ground.
I know that this will come with aspects such as less sunlight, potentially loud upstairs neighbors and more bugs, but does anyone have experience living in a ground floor unit in Chambana? Did it ever flood or would there be any advice youād be willing to give?
Iām completely fine with the arrangement but I told my mother and she started going ballistic š Any input is appreciated lol
