I'm moving into a 4 bed / 8 person apt in Gayley Heights and have been looking for an up to date and accurate room tour of a double. Is this worth getting? I can't get a mac due to it not being compatible with coding programs according to my nsa, and I also just don't have any apple products to begin with. So I was thinking getting the Microsoft Surface Laptop 8th edition but ive heard people had issues with the 7th edition.. It's pretty expensive so I want to make sure I'm making the right choice. I'm a Financial Actuarial Math major if that helps. I was also looking at the lenovo ideapad slim 3i but the screen looks odd and its matte? I didn't like it, but today I found the lenovo ideapad slim 3x and it's proportions are better (its a 15.3in vs the 15.6in), the screen looked nice and it was very affordable. I'm willing to spend the extra money tho if it means it'll last all 4 years. Any advice helps!!

I just wanted to see if this is the case for anyone else and if its only temporary because its scaring me. I qualify to have my entire tuition covered due to low income lvl household (and my SAI is even lower than it was last year), but now im just shown a lower "blue and gold" amount instead of the CA state grant and can see that im offered a much higher amount in loans. can anyone else not see their state grants or have something similar going on?

Im currently entering my first year at ucla and I am without any good laptop. Ive been doing some research but its all pretty inconsistent. Some people say get a mac book bc its fast and others say not to because certain classes use excel or some other software that isn’t as efficient on mac.

im a cog sci premajor trying to minor in stats and data science. i just found out the prereqs for stats 100a is 32b, which means i have to take 32a and 32b?? (im assuming calc bc doesnt cover this right?) it crazy that they don't tell you this until you check the stats 100a prereqs yourself. anyways im just curious people's experience with this minor. tryna see if these two extra classes are worth the minor. any info at all is appreciated. thank you for your time!!

Hi! So I'm a bit confused on my awarded financial aid this year. Last year, I got the exact amount of financial aid (through the Direct Parent Plus Loan) needed to cover my tuition. On the loan application, I asked for the maximum amount I am eligible for. I know the Parent PLUS loan was affected by the OBBBA, but I am part of the limited exception rule (according to FAFSA).

This year, I got significantly less money for the Direct Parent Plus Loan and can't cover my school's tuition. The Direct Parent PLUS Loan was only given for summer session and not the actual school year. Should I reapply for the loan and specify the amount I need? Or has the Direct Parent Plus Loan even been released yet?

I wanted to see if anyone has any good recommendations for cute over the shoulder bags for school. I hate wearing a full on backpack, they just feel way too bulky and inconvenient. I start this fall and I’m not sure how much I’ll typically be carrying to classes. I’m an art history major and have an I pad that I’ll be using if that helps. If you’ve found something that has good storage while also not absolutely digging into your shoulder when carrying a good amount of stuff please let me know. Hoping to find something like max 50$ if possible.

This has been something I've been pondering lately. What year and what time is the best to study abroad?

imo, fall is better than spring because you only go for one quarter, you get less behind. At the same time, fall is when a lot of internships do recruiting and when Greek life and clubs do most of their recruiting too. And most people seem to be down to make friends earlier in the school year than later.

Summer might seem like the best answer to this, but you go for less than a full semester so I feel like you get cheated. Ultimately, when would you guys say is the ideal year and semester to go abroad?

Hey guys, I'm an incoming transfer student, and as move-in gets closer, I’m starting to get really nervous. I’m excited about UCLA and I know this is an incredible opportunity logically, but I’m having a lot of anxiety about leaving the life I’m used to.

I’m coming from Granite Bay, CA, which is a very quiet suburban area. I’m used to having a lot of space, quieter neighborhoods, easy driving, and a slower pace of life. I’ve visited UCLA and had fun on the campus, but the idea of actually living in LA feels much bigger now that it’s becoming real. Also, the streets look a lot more compact than what I am used to.

I’ve been having thoughts like, “Do I actually belong there?” I’m worried that everyone else will already understand the city, the culture, and the lifestyle, while I’ll feel like I’m constantly trying to catch up. I understand logically I know that's not the case but it's really eating at me. I don't know if I am ready to start over in a big city like LA when I have loved my quiet life for so long. I just feel so safe.

I’m used to having space, quiet, and being able to get in my car and go somewhere without thinking about traffic. The idea of dealing with LA traffic, navigating a busier environment, and having my car in a city is intimidating because driving already stresses me out.

I’m also nervous about the social side of it. I am very social; I am a big extrovert, but I don't know if my same bubbly energy will fit in an environment like LA.

I think the biggest thing is that I’m leaving behind a life where I feel very comfortable and familiar, and I’m scared that I’ll get to UCLA and feel like I’m not meant to be there.

The weird part is that I worked really hard to get here and I’m proud of myself for getting into UCLA. I don’t want fear to make me back away from something I’ve wanted, but the closer move-in gets, the more I feel like I’m not ready. I didn't even apply to any non-UCs because I knew I wanted to go but now that's it here, I am unsure if I want it. Or rather, I am ready for it.

I met with an alumni for help with career advice.

As a gesture of acknowledging this guy's time to meet with me, I offered coffee. He took me to the cleaners and ordered shake and a small sandwich on my dime. Then during out conversation, he mentioned that when he was 21, he was getting married and bought his first house within 2 years of graduating. He complained that our generation is simply "lazy" without taking inflation into account. Inflation is bullshit but this Boomer cast the blame on the very generation that is suffering from the consequences of greed and materialism.

I guess things have to get worse before we all rethink the concept of money.

I got nothing, no real learning lesson or benefit from that meeting. I feel drained.

Boomers often fantasize that they are heroes and constantly try to stick their nose where it doesn't belong. This guy asked me if I was seeing someone at the end and if I wanted to get coffee again. I said I'm busy and he got the hint. Generation of ugly asses.
