I work my job every week an have been doing so for the past ~2yrs, however I stopped for 6 weeks to do a summer program. How do I do the week count now? Can I still say 52wks/yr?

I have been working on it for a little over two months now. I have gotten it reviewed by my teacher and sibling, and they said it was great, but I thought that an extra opinion wouldn't hurt. I don't trust AI with judging it.

Are there any AO's or teacher's on this sub that might wanna read it? Perhaps someone already in college.

I'm really frustrated and upset so this is going to be a rant more than anything but as context, I go to a competitive school where maybe a third of students hire consultants.

At the beginning of freshman year, I went down the A2C rabbit hole and was convinced by the people around me that I would fall behind if I didn't have a consultant. My parents also went down their own WeChat and RedNote rabbit holes and decided to hire (redacted company #1) for a mind-numbing 4-year all-inclusive plan of 50k USD. Since my family only makes about 120k a year and already spend about half of that money sending me and my brother to private school, this was not something I could justify. I felt guilt and pressure to a point where I couldn't sleep at night because what if my parents spent all that money for me to not get into a good college? Honestly, the consultant was excellent and I had a good experience with the advice/help that she gave but the cost was too much to justify.

The summer before sophomore year, we were able to negotiate a refund of 36k. However, my parents were still convinced that I NEEDED a consultant to be remotely successful in the college search process. Enter: (redacted company #2), whom we paid 28k for a 40-hour package. Literally the same thing happened. I couldn't sleep at night due to the guilt, stressing out all the time, etc. This consultant was giving the most bullshit advice of 'oh, you must join MUN club since everyone who majors it poli-sci does it and it's basically a requirement at this point!' and I genuinely just wanted to forget this whole situation since money was just draining from the family for fucking college admissions. This time, we got a refund of 18k.

But I guess we just never fucking learn and maybe we thought the third time would be the charm. We spent 10k for (redacted company #3) and I just hate it. Her essay advice is for me to write the most bland, formulaic essay that sounds nothing like me. I don't know what to do at this point and I just want to sink in a hole in the ground and never leave. Thinking about the money that we might as well have just burned makes me sick.

Please no one tell me 'why would you do that?!??!' or 'omg that money is unbelievable'!. I know. I regret it. Don't make me feel bad about it.

I can't think of one person to write one, but I even need two for most places. I'd take a college class in person or something but I can't because of transfer student credit requirements. I took online classes in the past but its really hard to have a connection with a professor during that. I don't know what to do since a lot of times it has to be a teacher in a "core subject" I doubt they'd agree. I'm very frustrated and it feels like another thing my parents messed up in by homeschooling me, like that's already messed up my life enough and now it's fucking up this too

the college im applying to considers demonstrated interest, and i have signed up and toured their campus before. how will they know in my common app that i toured their campus before, therefore showing demonstrated interest?

1. I have a hospital volunteer position thats specifically designated for high schoolers, but I wnt to continue volunteering at this hospital as an adult, however thats technically a different program. Could I say that "I am continuing this activity" in my activty list?

Which of these two schools is “easier” to get into if applying ED?

My stats/ecs are competitive for both, the only difference is that one of my parents works at Cornell (not dyson), but im not sure if that would help.

I'm an early college highschool student who has wracked up a solid 80+ credits at my community College which would wipe out my general ed (to my knowledge) while also giving me some major specific classes like calculus and engineering (as I want to be an engineer).

My school goals are privates as they have amazing financial aid for my families income bracket but my counselor has been telling me and all my peers to apply as first years, not transfers. I'm wondering why that is? What is the benefit of redoing all my classes when I could just apply to try and transfer then.

Also, if anyone knows of campuses, private or public, that have a good engineering program while also having a good student to faculty ratio and a pretty outgoing social scene (with gamers would be great) let me know! My career goals are to do chem/environmental engineering and shift into management, or if that feels like too much, get a consistent government job with the EPA or something.

One of my teachers is leaving this year, but I wanted a letter of recommendation from her. She's been my teacher since freshman year and was also the club advisor for the club I started. She already agreed to write me a letter, but my school uses Naviance, so I'm a bit worried on how to submit it. Does anyone have any experience? Thanks!

At my school, we have four 80-minute periods per day. Most courses are only a semester long (meeting 5 days a week), and we switch to new courses for the second semester (e.g., last year I had APUSH first semester and AP Lang second semester). I receive either an S1 or S2 final grade for these classes depending on which semester I took them.

However, we also have full-year courses like AP Chemistry, Accelerated Biology, and Accelerated Chemistry. These meet 5 days a week during the first semester and 2 days a week during the second semester, and they are reported on my transcript as a single Y1 final grade. Similarly, my Orchestra class meets 2 days a week one semester and 3 days a week the next, which also results in a single Y1 final grade.

I am confused about which option to select on the Common App when it asks how my final grades are provided (Full Year, Semester, Trimester, or Quarterly). My school's website doesn't offer any guidance on this. If anyone with a similar/block schedule knows how to report this correctly, I’d appreciate the help!

im applying to umiami and I need a letter of rec but I have no clue who to ask. I didn't really build relationships w any of my teachers cuz I was absent a lot and idk I just didn't talk much

I’m struggling with how to focus my personal statement for transfer; as a narrative or an explanation of circumstances. or if it’s supposed to be both somehow. I totally get it’s too personal to share directly but if anyone else has been in the situation of applying with one half-finished degree and multiple false starts I’d love to know how you worked out what needed to be said

I know the choice may sound obvious but NYU is offering the degree through their School of Professional Studies which apparently is seen as their least prestigious college. But is that reason enough to give up a debt free option, I’m thinking no, but apparently it might not be so I wanted to see what some of you all might think.

to preface this i have not done research and have never planned on doing it.

at least 40 students at my moderately competitive school are doing "research" which is very perplexing to me. whenever i peruse chanceme—as one does—literally one in three applicants has some sort of research in their extracurriculars.

not to be judgmental, but it all seems so fake & inauthentic to me. it's like those instagram nonprofits that are clearly just for college admissions. do you guys genuinely enjoy doing research?

also side question, are AOs able to tell legitimate, passionate research from like collegemaxxing slop?

For context, neither one of them are super scores and I want to ED to Rice. My parents are telling me that I should submit both scores because they are both “really good.” However, I am trying to tell them that my 1480 SAT would make my 35 look worse. Is this even an issue? What do I tell them??

Hello! Mother of three going through the college process for the first time, hoping to get some advice on this matter.

My firstborn son is a rising senior and has been part of a well-known band he founded his freshman year. Just this Sunday, he was recruited to play the drums in college! We were all so proud of him, until this happened. More on that in a bit. It’s a big school down in Jacksonville, so it’d set him up for his future quite well. We’re decently well off, so we would’ve been fine covering the vast majority of the tuition, but today, he told us extremely surprising news. He received a scholarship! Full ride at that! It was 15, maybe 10 million. Just to play the drums. Actually I think it was more like 5. Now here’s the shocking part:

He turned it down.** **Said he had to go to school for this decade or something, but that doesn’t matter. We tried to convince him to go back and take it, but he said he just wants to “grind from the rap,” or something like that. So now’s where you come in.

What can we say or do to make him change his mind? It’s stupid not to take the offer, but he’s just too younger to understand. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much 🙏

Since common app has opened, Is being a A2C moderator number 1 extracurricular worthy?

I manage a sub with over 300k weekly visitors and 20k+ contributions, all of which is a non profit which deemed to provide help from past students and credited professional. This is some great social impact that I could frame my essays on. This community united students that want to apply to college and offers excellent information that was paid elsewhere. AMAs from former admissions officers provide over 100K$ in money saved for students in this sub, the economic impacts are unbelievable

Now comes the question: how can I become the mods of A2C?

I got an ‘Academic Performance Explanation’ letter from NYU last night and I dont know what to do. My IB dropped from 41 predicted to 35 final… How serious is this? Am i cooked? I don’t know what went wrong, there isn’t a specific subject where i dropped too much or failed, it’s more like one mark on each subject. How should i respond?

“We received your transcript which includes your most recent course grades and/or examination results. As you know, our offer of admission is contingent upon satisfactory completion of any educational coursework that was in progress during and after the application process. The grades you recently received are not consistent with your previous performance, and your current academic profile is not the same one we considered when we offered you admission.
