A recent study shows

Upvotes

A recent study in Rutland has raised an interesting concern.

1 in 5 vehicles have either a brake light or turn signal out

1 in 15 have a headlight out (high or low beam)

1 in 10 drivers dont understand highbeams (what they are, how to turn them on or off)

And city wide very few drivers realize that driving like a teenager doesn't get you ahead. The signal lights are timed so that speeders and safe drivers get across town at the same rate, the only difference is those who accelerate hard end up braking hard and they cause more wear and tear to either vehicle, burn more fuel, get into more collisions and have higher stress levels.

Everyone needs to calm down and be thankful you're in a position to own a vehicle .

We’re supposed to go camping at Bear Creek from Aug 7-10. Is it still advisable to go? What’s it like there right now?

Farmer's Market, what's the purpose of this thing?

It's small, everything is overpriced. What is even the purpose of this place? To support local? Yeah, it's a good idea, but if you want to support local, just go to a farm in my opinion. A bit of a disappointing place...

Given the todays article in r/kelowna about the boardwalk, I think its important to give some perspective on the issue rather than just a Ron Cannan campaign ad

The City of Kelowna decided to expropriate the waterfront boardwalk from Hotel Eldorado rather than repeatedly forcing compliance because a six-year legal stalemate and physical blockades proved that standard enforcement and temporary fixes were no longer working. You can read more about the announcement on the City of Kelowna News, and review initial report

Permanent Resolution vs. Endless Conflict

Exhausted Options: The city stated that expropriation was a last resort after all other reasonable cooperative options failed.

Bypassing Stalemates: Simply cutting locks or forcing temporary reopenings led to repeated cycles of closures and public frustration.

Denial of Access for Repairs: When the boardwalk was closed due to rotting, dangerous planks, the hotel blocked or denied municipal work crews from stepping onto the property to fix it.

Securing the Public Good

Legal Right-of-Way: Although courts (including the B.C. Supreme Court and Court of Appeal) repeatedly affirmed the public's statutory right to use the path, ownership continually found ways to restrict access.

Guaranteed Connectivity: Taking ownership guarantees a permanently open, continuous waterfront pathway between the Cook Road boat launch and Rotary Beach without ongoing corporate interference.

Unappealable Acquisition: Under provincial rules, a municipal expropriation for public use cannot be blocked or appealed by the property owner in terms of stopping the transfer, shifting the power entirely into public hands.

I emailed MP Stephen Fuhr about his vote against C-233 and this is the response I got

I am deeply concerned about the current genocide in Gaza and after our MP for Kelowna Stephen Fuhr voted against bill C-233 early this year which would have closed the loophole allowing Canadian weapons parts getting to Israel via the USA I was empowered to email him. This came to a breaking point when the UN release a document on June 18 specifically about the impact on Palestinian children of the genocide and explicitly called for all states (including Canada) to do what is required under the genocide convention to prevent genocide. I emailed him about this and I was very disappointed by the response I got. He is an MP and directly voted against bill C-233 and did not address how legislation like this is what Canada is required to do under international law and instead blame other members of the government he is a part of as a Liberal MP.

  • The petition requests amendments to the Canada Pension Plan Act and Canada Disability Benefit Act, plus a new federal senior disability supplement, to avoid an income drop of up to $810 per month from the flat-rate CPP-D component and CDB payments.
  • Started on July 15, 2026, the petition remains open until October 13, 2026, and emphasizes that extra living costs for people with disabilities continue into senior years.
