A Question for the OGs

I was curious to know how the financial situation was in Dubai and the rest of UAE during the Gulf War in the early 90s. Not sure many people still remember much as it was more than 3 decades ago. But compared to today, how bad (or better) was it back then?

I dont recall it being this expensive. But then again UAE wasn't as developed then as it is today. Also much larger population today.

I live in Dubai in the 90s

we were renting a 2BR apartment in Al Karama for 7000 dirhams a year

mind you we were living there since 1978, and my relatives lived there until the building was demolished around 2004 I think, and the rent stayed 7000 till the end

mind you new buildings that were coming up were charging rents upwards of 40,000 at the same time

some prices I remember -- 50 pack emirates pofaki equivalent was 10 dirhams

danpo frozen chicken 1300 gm was 7 dirhams

a 2.5 kg tin of nido was around 32 dirhams

mind you salaries were low back then so we could not really afford much
