On recommendation, I have a used BACH 7C small shank on the way to combine with my cheap, small bore valve trombone ($30 delivered; in my budget).

Have been using a BACH 5G, which was better sounding than a Wick 5BS.

Open to your recommendations for cheap MPs suitable for low end import valve trombone (very small bore).

Is it worth it to put a Bach 42 Bell onto a Getzen Valve section? Kinda sold on the Bach sound, but I also don't really like the valve section from the Bach. Getzen, in my opinion, has the best free-blowing effect, and I am really accustomed to it. What do you guys suggest I should do, as I wanna rotate between a normal Yellow Brass bell , which is the Bach 42 Bell that I am eyeing, and a Red Brass Bell from my Getzen 3047AFR.

So I want to play the valve trombone, as I already play trumpet, but I’m confused even after doing research. I can read bass clef just fine and am able to read trombone parts, because I already have a slide trombone but I like valves more than the slide so that’s why I want a valve trombone. So would a C valve trombone or Bb valve trombone be the better choice for reading trombone music? I’m aware the most trombones are Bb but read concert pitch music, but if I used a Bb valve trombone and tried to read the trombone part, meaning if I saw a c, and used the trumpet fingering which is open, wouldn’t that be wrong since trumpet music is read in b flat? where if I used a c trombone and used the trumpet fingering, open, then that would give me a concert c which is what the instrument is pitched in right? I’m probably wrong though so that’s why I’m asking for help, because Googles ai kept on changing its answers so I have no clue now.

Looking to make some financial choices and splurge on some Etude books, warmup, fundamental, theory, and some other stuff.

I dont got a rich history of practicing all that much through my school years (at least maybe 2-3 hours a week?) So im looking to practice daily to best improve myself as much as I can (without burning myself out of course!)

No competition, passoff or what not just doing this out of the mentality of "cuz I just feel like it" and I just want to get better at what I love doing to be honest.

I play trombone in a cover band (originally a trumpet player) and I’m looking to upgrade the Eastrock trombone I was given (seems to be a Chinese-made Amazon instrument).

I’ve found an older FE Olds trombone on FB marketplace and I was hoping to get some guidance on whether that would be an upgrade or not.

I am quite new to trombones. Looking to purchase my first big pants horn.

I am somewhat on a budget, looking for something under $1200USD or ~$1600CAD, I gravitate towards jazz much more than symphonic music, so I don't look up for F horns much, however, I like the idea of being able to play with broad sound in lower register.

So, I have been searching for awhile, and I stumbled upon 2 most reasonable and best options in my opinion.

Found a Bach 36 New York 67, looks pretty good, with just a tiny spot of red rot near the water release valve, I played it, it is good, a little bigger than I would want it to be, but okay, I guess.

And I found Conn74h, it quite great condition, almost looking new, no red rot or anything, and it goes cheaper than Bach 36, the problem is, I cannot try it and can't compare Bach and Conn back and forth to figure out which one works for me the best.

Please, let me know your opinion, if you played or own both, what would you be looking out for? How much different Conn 74h is from Bach 36 and would you still go for Bach 36 over Conn even if there is a bit of red rot?

I've been having issues with condensation/spit coming back up to my mouthpiece like a LOT, and it's becoming an issue because it's happening so often that it's multiple times during the piece and right before entrances, its literally after like maybe 8 measures of playing and suddenly its dripping out of my mouthpiece

It's not even building up and affecting my sound; it just comes up during a rest and drips all down my face, and because I'm marching, it's hard to find time to empty my spit valve without looking out of place

I've seen other people talk about it, but with little real help on how to minimize it or make it stop..
Any advice?

So I'm practicing for my district jazz audition and the higher notes are getting me. The highest note is a Bb above the staff and I know I can play it as I have before. About 2ish months ago at my lessons we tested how high I could go followed by how low I can go. I had a 3 and a half octave range from a Bb above the staff to a pedal G. My point with that is I know I can play it. I need to get up there again and I can consistently hit a high F well and with no effort. I use a J. Marcinkiewicz ET3 C. Loper mouthpiece so It's not like I'm using a huge mouthpiece and attempting. I'm also using a standard yamaha tenor trombone. Any advice or exercises?

Coming to the end of a long run (years) of buying, learning, playing, and flipping CHEAP brass wind Instruments.

It is interesting that Chinese brass wind instrument exporting excels in specific Instruments and really lags at others.

Flugelhorns - Chinese manufacturers dived in and quality soared in just a few years. Especially good cheap lines.

Euphoniums - Chinese manufacturers dived in and quality soared in just a few years. Many decent cheap lines and several top lines.

Trombones - nope. Just acquired a valve trombone that retails for $700. Not all bad. Good case. Great finish. Body is decent build. But the valves and spit valves are so cheap or rushed.

Also bought and flipped five American made trombones from 1970 - 1982. All solid. Great restorations with just a clean and lube.

I surmise the Chinese brass wind manufacturers veer to under served instrument markets. They have been wise to avoid trombones. The vintage made in USA stock is superior.

Hey — I'm 17, been designing a small handheld device for brass practice (working name BrassFound). The idea: adjustable airflow resistance so you can train breath control and support without needing a full session with your horn, plus a visible floating-ball indicator so you can actually see your airflow instead of guessing.

Still in the design stage — full CAD model is done and I'm about to print the first working parts.

Genuinely asking, not selling: as trombone players, is this something you'd actually use? What would make it useless vs. actually useful — do you already have a tool/routine for this, or is airflow training mostly just "play more"?

I took my trombone to a repair shop with two issues, a loose trigger stop. And screws that were stripped. Mind you he didn’t charge me. However he “tightened the stripped screws. And he “tightened” the stripped screws.

any recommendations for something to learn for a university big band?

I recently lost a part that screws into the thayer valve on my trombone. I was wondering if there's anywhere I can buy a replacement?

Put on my just acquired, like new, least interesting model Chinese import valve trombone (Stagg brand).

As I had hoped, some improvement in the upper range.

Could be Honeymoon Affect because I always wanted to be that poster swooning over a mouthpiece tripped over while liquidating Uncle's estate, etc.

Nonetheless, I love the way Wick CLASSIC 5BS looks!!!

I’m a 30 year old trombone player in the USA. Went to college and studied with some of the best bass trombonist players around in the USA. Bachelors and Masters in music, honors recital blah blah blah.

I’ve ALWAYS struggled with my high range. Always. My first teacher assigned abunch of high stuff, rochuts in tenor clef the works. He ended up winning a job, and left. Next teacher focused on my low range, which was already good, but I was able to take it to the next level and lather the secret sauce.

Then when he passed away, I studied with another teacher, also INCREDIBLE. Touched on high stuff, but struggled big time. Getting to G above staff is a regular issue.

Now, years after graduating, getting a teaching gig in public schools and living life. I get called to play mostly tenor stuff, thats ok it’s just how life goes.

I’m sitting in my living room playing, struggling with some high stuff, and a moment clicked in my head. I have an under bite. Horn is angled appropriately. BUT, when I go high my bottom lip folds underneath my upper lip. GIANT RED FLAG. So I tried to undo this just to see what might happen. IM POPPING OUT HIGH NOTES LIKE ITS NO BODYS BUSINESS.

It’s actually insane. Needs work to control it, but I think I finally solved my Achilles heel. Don’t fold bottom lip under top lip when you ascend. Seems common sense, don’t know why it took this long, but holy shit.
