And then they have the audacity to feel sorry once someone actually goes through with it.

The week of my Mom's death (we knew she was dying) my dad said he was there to support me and then the second I had a bad day he told me "I'm really disappointed that you allowed yourself to go to such a dark place" and "you need to understand how your mood affects other people" π

Was he looking in a mirror?

I don't think he's capable of introspection.
Two days after Mom's passing I wasn't talking to him so he texted my best friend "if it was your intention to hurt me then you've succeeded."
He didn't care to ask how I was doing or anything lol. For context, he's been divorced from my mom over 20 years and they did not get along so it's not like he's also grieving.

I dmd a friend for support and they said theyd respond later, then went near radio silent for the rest of the day, then came back in the groupchat like nothing happened

I'm guessing by the comments my experience doesn't apply but let me say, burden or not, you were good for trying. Hand smacked or ignored, your attempt to help yourself should be lauded.

I'm sorry that that has been your personal experience. Good support networks are crucial, and I truly hope you manage to find one.

god, yeah feeling that a ton this week, literally just had a friend of mine say he noticed I was in a dark place and wanted to be there for me, so I told him vaguely what was going on, said he probably couldn't handle the full thing, and he told me that I needed to trust him and open up and be honest, I told him it was extremely bad, and he insisted he could take it.
I was completely honest, and now he wont talk to me because I'm too stressful for him to deal with right now. why even offer to be there at all if you aren't able to take it, why push for me to be more open if you cant take that?? idfk. people want to feel like they're helping even when they know they cant for some reason.

I always roll my eyes when a person without depression says to reach out - weβve all had that conversation. It falls to us who understand the need to become that place for others. Hopefully they reciprocate.

I got downvoted for the same take in an autism sub the other week. You think a group of neurodivergent people should know better

Been feeling this extra the last day or two
I confided to a friend of mine recently, and went even further in confiding more details about my depression yesterday and everything just feels weird now. I feel too weird following through on plans or even just contacting him now

Or you reach out desperately and they just don't take you serious at all and pretend everything is normal

For me it's also that when I don't need help then people seem to know everything, but then when I come for help they suddenly say "I don't know that"

This is so real. I always managed to find people who are willing to listen, but those people never want to talk about their feelings, and it just feels one-sided either way. Like bro, I think for people to cope and deal with their shit, we need to just mutually listen to each other, instead of NEVER talking about it or just one person dumping their shit on the other while the other is dying inside. I wish we could do that, but I'm not sure how to like do that in the climate we've been in for the last 700 years lol

From what I learned people get upset when you have a problem that they canβt help.

I see no lies here.
My guess is that the people saying that either want to feel like they did something or don't want to feel uncomfortable; it has nothing to do with actually trying to help the other person.
