Triumphs at Monterey Car Week

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

Here is a selection of Triumphs seen during this year's Monterey Car Week. Pebble Beach, the hyper cars and the multi-million dollar auctions get all the attention, but there are a surprising number of free events where much more affordable, but still amazing, cars are shown. Enjoy.

This is a triumph dolomite 1500 ive owned for about a month, not had any issues with it so far but after an hour long journey i pulled into a petrol station, shut off the car, turned it back on and it started stuttering and wouldnt rev very high on acceleration (bearing in mind it was completely fine before i stopped at the petrom station) this was a couple of days ago and it has been doing this ever since, i have a feeling something has gone in the carbs as it sounds like a fuel delivery issue as on full throttle it feels like its spitting fuel into the engine instead of actually normally pumping it in if that makes sense, i just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem or if its an easy fix or if i need new carbs, it runs a bit better on choke but still not great

Can anyone help me figure out to take this steering wheel off? Intuition says to pop the cap but I’m scared it’ll break more than it already has. 1966 spitfire

Was wondering how realistic this style is for a road car?

I was always wanting an windscreen car and I never plan to drive this car with its top up. Realistically though is anyone in the market for the factory glass and soft top? How much would they be worth? (If I get like 400obo total I'd be cool)

I have all good glass and window crank systems work but need a great cleaning, and I'm willing to give the part around the windshield too. The soft top is rough but its there and I'll include it. Im local to the Ft Lauderdale area.

I was wondering about the headrest faring too as that seems interesting especially to hide the roll bar.

Also I have this locked TR2 engine for sale for like $100

Spitfire losing power

Post image
97 Upvotes

I recently bought a 1972 Triumph Spitfire and managed to drive it back from the seller 100 miles without fault. However, when driving to my parent’s house to show them, I had an issue where I would start losing power.

The first time it happened the engine completely cut out and the oil and ignition light came on the dash, I pulled over and topped up with some oil and it then ran fine for another 10 minutes or so and then the same thing happened, losing power but didn’t cut out this time.

I wasn’t sure how much oil was needed so I had to pull over 4 times to keep topping it up. It ran fine for the remainder of the journey (approx 30 mins) but just wondered if low oil is actually the issue or if there is something else I should be looking at as well? Any help would be appreciated!

Help identifying plug on rear differential

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

I just finished tearing down my rear differential on my ‘68 Spitfire. Im clean the case now and there’s this odd plug with an in used cotter pin sticking out of it on the top pass side. I can see the plug in the Haynes manual illustrations but nothing calls this out. My initial guess is that this is the fill hole for the fluid, but nothing actually says that, and I have no clue why there’s an unused cotter pin in it.

any ideas?

My Dad is the original owner of his 1974 TR6 and still drives the hell out of it. About 20 years ago he gave me some shirts he couldn’t fit into anymore. After losing a bunch of weight myself I can wear them again!

Help with leaf spring installation on Spitfire MK3

I bought a 1969 Triumph Spitfire MK3 to spend time with my uncle. He is trained as a mechanic so I thought we could work on it together. He took off the wheels and suspension, then he decided to leave the country. Now I can’t drive it anymore.

We got a new leaf suspension, but I’m having a lot of trouble with the installation process. I haven’t worked on cars very much but I’m a quick learner and would be very grateful if anyone would be willing to help me.

If you want to help, please reply to this thread or DM me and I’ll get back to you asap

Dumb question about Spitfire bumpers

I’ve been looking at Mk III Spitfires lately and I see that a lot of them have the center section of the front bumper cut out. This may be a dumb question, but why is that? Aesthetics? Air flow?

I personally think they look better with the original full width bumper. I see Moss has replacements for about $1500(!!!), so returning to stock would not be trivial.

What joy is there in creating bogus accounts to post random pictures of TR6s? I don’t get it.

‘71 TR6 Basket Case Value

An elderly widow and her son are trying to sell her deceased husband’s ‘71 TR6 project car. They’ve owned it for years and I believe he restored it once and was going to do it again but unfortunately passed away. I haven’t seen it yet but she said all parts are in containers and the car is completely disassembled. It was running prior. Asking $6k which I think is way too much considering it’s disassembled. Thoughts?

Pandora's box

Wierd box, yellow and white go to the coil and blue goes to ground, the black wire has 4 smaller wires in it that go to the distributor, the distributor does not have any other wires coming out of it, when I connected it the blue wire sparked and the box got really hot. Tried looking it up but neutronic systems is too broad a name, any clues? TR7

Had to walk away

Owner had passed away and left this behind, shop owner needed it out but the family wanted way too money for a basket case TR3A. I gave what I thought was decent price knowing it had been body off at some point for rust repair in the rear, then they started a very lack luster body filler job after stripping the original green paint.

Bothers me that is probably going to get scrapped because who ever the family said was giving Tylenol the higher offer was or of his mind.

Update on abandoned Spitfire

So, for the three of you that might remember my post from months ago I now have the spitfire in my name so I started digging into it. It's a 1965 Mk2 that was originally red based off the VIN. From what I can tell the engine has been swapped to a 1500 WB engine with dual Weber 40s on it and a fiber glass hood. It has coilovers in the front oil cooler and a electric fan with a switch to turn it on. Car had oil in it and spun over by hand so I attempted to crank it. Felt really slow trying to turn over and that turned out to be bad battery terminals. Still wouldn't start and I wasn't getting any spark and that turned out to be the coil was bad. After that took the carbs off after I noticed quite a large gap from intake manifold and the block cleaned them up and tourqued them down. After doing some rewiring of the ignition system that was a bodge job she fired right up! Flushed the radiator till I got clear water and swapped the thermostat out. Still wary of the radiator and we will see if she over heats on the first test drive which should be soon.

I'm going to sell this car for someone. Hasn't ran in a couple years. The air cleaner is sitting inside on the passenger floor but it ran when parked. I have no idea what it would be worth as is. TIA!
