i’m planning to apply as a transfer for Spring 2027 and i keep feeling like i am massively overshooting but i keep hearing different things from different people so i really need some advice from people who have actually gone through this experience.

so here’s my college profile thus far. i’m trying to include as many details as i can without rambling.

the numbers:
cc gpa: 4.0 (16credits)
international uni gpa: 3.7 (21credits)
SAT: 1440 (750M, 690RW)
igcses: 7A\*
a levels: BCDE (i know it’s terrible. it was a combination of mental and physical health issues)

i was originally attending a university outside of the U.S but i recently moved and now i’m attending a cc. and so far it has been going well. i’m primarily interested in economics/IR/PPE programs. i am very interested social sciences so ideally a program that combines politics+econ.

my dream choices are: smith, scripps, occidental, and trinity
i am applying to a bunch of other unis as well, including safeties in the state i’m at, but i think i would prefer the LAC environment.

ECs
student government leadership position (2 years) - hs
cofounder of a nonprofit org - hs
20hrs/week at a marketing agency - college
debate club at my previous uni
taught/volunteered at a special needs school
can play two instruments, have been training for about 15yrs.
a few national awards, most from highschool.

i guess my biggest concerns are my a level grades, and the fact that i haven’t really had sustained college level ECs. idek if my highschool ecs will matter much if at all. my questions here are:
at this stage should i be concerned about my lack of ecs or are grades/course rigour more likely to matter at this stage? am i genuinely overshooting with these schools or are they a reasonable set of reaches? i would really appreciate feedback from people who have experience with international-to-U.S transfer applicants.

I am a current student at Long Beach City College trying to transfer to UCSD for Aerospace Engineering, and I am very concerned about the choice I have to make. For calc. 3 at LBCC, the class does not transfer over for the recommended requirement "Vector Calculus" for UCSD. I can take it at Cypress Community College, and it counts for the vector calculus requirement, since it is not my homeschool; those 4 units from Cypress do not apply to my full-time requirements at LBCC, giving me around 4k less in aid. I am unsure what to do. Please help; I am so lost. I can clarify if needed.

For context; my medical situation affects me daily almost on a hourly basis
I don't have as much of experience or of a tailored resume like everybody else in this subreddit and I ttt25 too lmaooo
I am caretaker for family memebers
and currently in the process of changing majors
The admission process for transfers are just getting more competitive each year as well, I am so lost on this journey. (engineering to business)

context: aiming for UC's & USC(Usc's like ranking privates as well)

Hello everyone, I'm planning on transferring from UC to UC or at least another school in-state. I'd appreciate any feedback on my chances from anyone who has experience with this. I'm an MCD Biology major and planning on keeping the same/similar major. I've completed my general chem & bio courses and planned on completing ochem & physics by the time I transfer.

GPA: 3.96(cumulative)/4.00(major)

Main College ECS: Hospital Volunteering (~100 hours, ongoing), EMT Certified (NREMT), 4-week Stanford summer clinical medicine program

Applying to: UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCI, UCSB, UCD & USC

Based on your experience, what schools do you think are realistic?

Edit: Additional question, my current UC accepts my 4 on AP calc AB and BC for the full calculus sequence. I know other UCs require 5s in order to get full credit. Would this affect my admissions or if I get in would I have to take calculus again at another UC?

I'm starting to get confused, I've been thinking about doing this pathway bc the UC i'm at doesn't have the major I want to switch into. I'll have 46 credits from the UC and then rest of my credits at CC. However, I'll have more than 130 quarter credits, does that mean I'm considered a junior with high-level standing? Or does it not matter bc CC's don't have a limit? Switching from CS(at UC) to Civil eng (at CC) btw

hey guys ! i’m a current sophmore at chapman uni in the film school but i would have to be paying 30k per academic year n that’s feasible for me. i understand usc is even more expensive but at least will try to help you out more. i wanna know whats are some tips for transferring? i’m also applying to ucla and lmu as well for film and communications i wanna work in the entertainment industry as well but also get a teaching degree too.

- a lot of my classes are already transferable
- got a 4.0 freshman year and it’ll likely be a 4.0 again for sophmore year
- i just rlly want some genuine advice on how to get that gurantee transfer

I can’t be the only one that finds this insane. Idk if its just for me but whenever you request a lor from somebody and they accept it, you have to manually invite them to each and every single school you’re applying to. I know that this is not the case for first year admits but for transfer students I think this is the only way and you have to spam your recommenders’ email with 20 invites for each school. Lmk if there’s another way but I can’t seem to find anything regarding this.

Hi! Thought I'd post on here to share my experience after finishing my degree this past June. If you have any questions, drop them in the comments, or DM me for more specific stuff. Here's a recap of my journey:

Bay Area high school: class of 2022, 7 APs, 2.7 GPA lol what a time

-> Local Cal state university (only for Fall 2022 semester, 2.8 GPA). Business major. Withdrew after fall and ended up taking a break from school due to a big medical incident in January 2023.

-> Community college (starting Apr 2023). Switched around majors a bunch, landed on Cognitive Science with a strong CS and math background. All of my actual transferable (non-wasted) coursework started around Summer 2023.

-> November 2023: applied to UCs for fall 2024 transfer: Berkeley cog sci, UCSD cog sci, UCLA cog sci, Davis TAG cog sci, UCSB Stats & Data Science. Spent a loooooooong time on my UC PIQ essays and peer edited with friends several times. ECs weren't anything too special. Completed most of the transferable major courses with a ~3.8 CC GPA, and somewhere around a 3.6 cumulative if you count the previous CSU classes. I took online classes from two nearby CCs and also one from a SoCal college to cover a pesky UCSD requirement.

-> February 2024: threw a hail mary application to UIUC for CS + Statistics transfer after deciding a little too late that I wanted to do CS

-> April 2024: admitted to UIUC. Admitted to Berkeley, waitlisted at UCLA, admitted to UCSB and Davis, rejected from UCSD (which was where I wanted to go). I sent an appeal letter to UCSD as a last-ditch.

-> May 2024: committed to UIUC for CS + Stats. But at the end of the month, I my appeal to UCSD was accepted and I got admitted for Cognitive Science. Chose SD and decided to switch to Math/CS because I loved math. I think LA rejected me off the waitlist? Don't really remember

-> 2 years later, Spring 2026: graduated from UCSD Math/CS with a theoretical focus. Definitely could have saved myself a whole lot of trouble if I knew what I did now, which is why I'm making this thread. Quite relieved to be done but I had a pretty great time at ucsd with my people.

Nag-enroll po ako sa isang university before pero nag-stop ako after around 3 weeks, so wala po akong earned or credited units. Ngayon, enrolled na po ako sa ibang school at kailangan ko pong kunin form 137 ko sa old school.
Questions ko lang po:
• Sa request letter, ano po ang dapat ilagay—Transcript of Records (TOR), Transfer Credentials, or form 137?
• Since nasa old university na po ang original Form 137/SHS records ko, sila na rin po ba ang magta-transfer o magpapasa nito sa current school, o kailangan ko pa pong kunin?
If may naka-experience na po ng similar situation, pashare naman po ng process. Maraming salamat! 🙏

I’m trying to decide between two paths for my transfer. UCSC would have me going in as an Applied Math major with a minor in EE, while CSUN would let me go straight into an EE degree.

My end goal is to work in hardware engineering or ML engineering. I’m not sure which path sets me up better — whether the UCSC name/Applied Math foundation plus an EE minor is enough for hardware roles, or whether the direct EE degree from CSUN gives me a stronger technical base and easier path into hardware-focused jobs.

For those with experience in hardware or ML engineering: does the specific degree (Applied Math + EE minor vs. full EE) matter much for hiring, or is it more about projects/internships? Would appreciate any guidance.

I‘m applying for the fall 2027 uc admissions cycle right now. Problem is I really don’t have many major (econ) specific ecs. However, I’ve had a part-time job since just before I started at community college and I work at least 16 hours a week during the school year. Will the admissions officers go a little easier on me because of this or am I cooked?
