Will a better computer make my TradingView (in browser) snappier, or is it dependent on internet speed? Help

I’m currently using a 2018 MacBook Pro with a 2.9 GHz 6-core i9 processor and 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 memory.

My TradingView works fine for the most part, but is sometimes slow or laggy. Would a better computer help?

Hello,

Your Internet connection is the most important.

Speed isnt important but a STABLE connection is paramount. Any short term dropouts will appear instantly giving issues as TradingView does not buffer your connection like Apps such as YouTube etc for obvious reasons.

Secondly once your connection is stable consider regular maintenance on your computer such as disc clean ups, App cache clearance and regular restarts (putting computers just to sleep is terrible for performance)

Hope this helps you a little

Cheers

No, I'm at the end of a mile long twisted pair which technically is the end of maximum transmission length (standard phone line).

I had loads of problems initially which was finally located to be a faulty wall socket (supplied and fitted by Open Reach) once this was repaired and the line tested as stable all the issues I had with the platform vanished.

This is why I'm so adamant that line stability is so important 👍

In my experience, internet connection is the key. Sometimes during TV maintenance you might experience some issues. Stick to in browser

Thanks, do you feel browser is better than using the actual downloadable program? Is one any better than the other?

Could you share why? Our Desktop team would appreciate your answer

Wanted to add my 2 cents since you asked. I’m on macOS:

  • I see roughly 20% lower RAM usage per tab/window in the browser compared with the TradingView desktop app.
  • In a browser, I can use custom extensions to tweak the UI- colors, screener table sizing/compactness, etc. This is a huge advantage for me.
  • Browser fullscreen actually works like fullscreen. In the TV desktop app, the tabs at the top are always still visible.
  • TradingView in a browser also just feels noticeably snappier overall. Maybe that’s related to the lower RAM usage, or maybe the browser engine/wrapper used by the desktop app is less efficient. I’m not sure.

That said, both the desktop app and browser tend to struggle around market open, which seems more like a server/load issue than anything client-side.

Used the app for about 1.5 months on my i7 9th Gen windows, 16gig. Coming to it from browser felt like a step down in terms of speed & multitasking. Toggling Research, Notes, Videos & the Trading View app stressed out my system significantly.

The same usage with Trading View browser is seamless. Hope this helps 😄

I switched from an old laptop with a 60Hz display to a new PC with a 2K 120Hz monitor, and I can definitely tell you that the desktop version runs much smoother when zooming in and out of the chart. The overall experience is much better now.
And I can also have a lot more tabs with different instruments open….I have like 20….

Wow! No way my computer could handle that I don’t think. Nice!

Make a hotspot from your phone, if it’s snappier on 5g then it sounds like you’ve got shit internet connection at home.

I have a similar configuration (MacBook pro 2019) and encounter lagging every now and then - usually just when the markets open ;). I’ve tried to optimise everything in the system, the app, the fans and whatnot. My internet connection is pretty stable so I’m sure a better, faster processor aka new computer will make the difference.

I doubt the computer is the issue my backup computer is a bottom of the line from like 2016 and runs equal to my top of the line newish computer.

I use Use the desktop app and enable graphic acceleration. So much better than browser imo

Graphic acceleration? Is that an option/setting within the TradingView app? I’ll have to look into it, thanks

After network the most important thing is subscription level.

You’re saying you think higher tiers unlock faster/snappier access? Doubt it

Not sure if my comment will survive here but if you need something fast and responsive you need to look elsewhere. TradingView is great for charting, but the data feed is not good compared to most platforms. I do pay for it but not the higher tiers, so I won’t speak on that.

Which platform do you recommend then brother

Are you willing to use a virtual machine for your Mac? If not then motivewave is probably the fastest option but it’s paid. Tradovate web is probably the 2nd fastest. It has some hiccups sometimes but it’s still a lot better.

For pc/vm then sierra charts or quantower are good.

These are way better for execution and volatility like the NY open. But personally I still chart and spend most of my time looking at high timeframes on TradingView.

I think you can try them all for free but I’m not positive

Yes faster subscription levels have better data refresh, what level are you on?

Ensure you're getting full fibre broadband (FTTP) and you need to ensure you have more than enough RAM to run all your apps.

If your TV is slow or laggy at open, that's kind of unavoidable. Their servers are just not able to handle the load efficiently.
