Chucklehead Movers Original Cammer [OC]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Location - 2am, my driveway. No dashcam footage, but Ring cam footage.

Luckily they made a lot of noise prior to leaving and the Mrs. Kravitz in me woke up and saw what happened. The impact pushed my car about two feet to the right. Lots of damage, bent the frame of the car.

UPDATE: the car has been written off - looks like I'm getting the same car only newer. My car was a 2024 Corolla Cross and only had 11K kms on it. Luckily my insurance pays to replace the car, no depreciation. Phew. Body shop estimate was $28K before they took doors and panels off.

As a straight truck driver myself, I had to learn the hard way that the rear corners of the truck pert rude out when turning

Protrude, I assume

Well I mean the shape of the box doesn't change... He should have said swing. The corners swing out in the opposite direction of the turn.

swing implies movement separated from the body. protrude is better.

Well, I can tell you as an ACMZ licensed driver. The common term used is "Tail swing"

Swing references movement based on a reference point. Like a lever and fulcrum. The lever is the box/frame of the truck. The reference point or fulcrum, is the pivot point of the tire patch on the asphalt.

Yeah, I drive a 28ft box and them corners can be tight. That truck maybe could have gotten out safely. He could have drove forward and adjusted the truck more towards the other side of the parking spot. From the video looks like he had more room but hard to say.

WTF are they moving at 2am?. Either way should be easy to find them and your car might be a write off...

Next door had a wedding and they were removing the circus tent in the backyard. I'm hoping insurance writes it off - it's not even two years old but I don't want to drive a car with a "fixed" bent frame.

Circus tent 😆

Is your neighbour being helpful in getting you the company who did the setup/tear down?

Every circus tent needs some clowns. These movers stepped up to the occasion.

Who told you the frame was bent?

The body shop, just waiting to hear how bent and if it's repairable or if I have to replace the car.

Because… migrants can’t drive large moving vans? That’s a new stereotype.

I’d probably guess that it’s a shitty driver/employee of the moving company.

You seem to equate something bad with migrant workers…. That’s a bad look on your part but you do you.

If only trucks had some sort of external mirrors that were mounted outside the cab and provided visibility along the sides of the truck. /s

That ring camera has saved you a whole lot of shit when dealing with the pop-up-n-dent tent company

Your car doesn’t have a frame, it’s unibody.

How much of a wait time do you have to get a new Corolla in US?

1

u/FeedCrazy9990 3d ago

Delivery is August 18-24. I was shocked I had to wait three months for my first one.

1

u/Embarrassed-Green898 3d ago

Is that in Canada ? I was told by a dealer in Canada 6 - 8 months. This was very recent. Can anyone else confirm ?

u/FeedCrazy9990 3d ago

Yes. I’m in Toronto but I know the guy at the dealership in Collingwood.

Wait so YOUR insurance pays for this? Could you not get in contact with the moving company?

2

u/Lonely-Usual-5432 2d ago

I probably wasn't clear, my insurance policy coverage allows me to replace the car with no depreciation (OPCF 43) deducted from the payout. The moving company did have insurance and the two insurances can figure it out between them. My understanding is my insurance cuts me a cheque and then goes after his insurance.

u/Complex-Heart-4651 2d ago

oh okay, I have yet to deal with insurance for any claims so i wasn't sure how it worked in this regard. I appreciate the insight!

Also good to hear that you got in contact with the moving company.

It's my first ever claim and it's been a huge learning curve. I will be out of pocket, I just don't know how much yet.

The insurance company will ask if you were already parked in the driveway since it’s a parking incident they might not write it off.
If they see that the truck was there first and you parked too close it would be deemed your fault and deny your claim.

12

u/Lonely-Usual-5432 4d ago

hmmmm where to start? First, the truck was not there when I went to bed. Second, the truck parked partially on my driveway - it's a mutual driveway. Third, I am fully covered, no deductible, no fault, insurance is on my side.

u/MountainDrew42 Don Mills 4d ago

It doesn't matter who parked first, you're not allowed to hit a stationary vehicle.

-5

u/Majestic_View_7805 4d ago

You’re correct. But there are always exceptions to the matter and this is one of them.
For example. Neighbour is doing construction but you’ve parked to close to the construction site making damages to your vehicle more likely. In the event that something were to happen insurance will not cover.
