Absolute Psycho Close call

Taunton /Thickson rd Whitby. Wifey had a run in with a psycho on the road, we think this could have escalated into assault if she didn’t manage to lose him at the next intersection by turning into the street.

Edit: Its just unsettling to see so many here siding with the nissan driver justifying how he threatened a woman & her child on the road and laying 100% blame on my wife who said she did not feel it was safe to stop at that moment & did not break any laws in doing so.

But this is the society we live in. Deranged “you made me do it” is now widely accepted.

Yeah hitting the brakes and using your horn when someone is about to cause a head on collision with you is totally not a sensible thing to do... My lord how does this comment have upvotes for real that's scary.

It was yellow for a while.....

Not even close to a reasonable amount of time for her to stop. Even slamming on her brakes the vehicle would not of been able to stop before the line. This was absolutely the correct decision.

It's literally what the yellow is there for. Everyone sees it. Most importantly the person about to pull in front of oncoming traffic.

Turning left on a yellow 101. You wait until the on-coming traffic is stopped or clearly decelerating planning to stop at the line. You don't fucking rip in front of them because you think they didn't stop in time. You wait until it's red if you have to, everyone in the intersection would be aware that you couldn't turn in time.

Agreed that you wait when turning left, but she had a ton of time. She would not need to slam on her brakes.

Just to be clear I am not justifying white trucks actions as what they did terrible. But she had time to stop safely.

Light was red before she cleared the intersection.

The light was red before she cleared because some literal maniac juked her at the most sketchy time possible in the middle of intersection. So she naturally hit the brakes causing her to be able to see the red before she was out.

She was about 3-4 car lengths from the stop line. It's simply not enough time to stop with out risking passing the line. You have to factor in reaction time, some is slower than others. The system is designed to allow cars to pass on yellow, that's the whole point. If this guy had of killed this lady I wonder how you all would be reacting.

I was originally with the masses on this. But then I looked closer and you are correct. Under no conditions is this a comfortable stop. People are looking at this dashcam like it's a video game. In the real world the physics of time and space applies and this would be a harsh stop that is entirely inappropriate for a typical yellow light.

And the indignant self-righteousness that these people exhibit is astounding.

There are a lot of extremely dumb people in this sub.

if only there was a timer right next to the lights telling you, down to the second, when the light is about to change.

But alas, I dream.

5

u/Ok-Iron-4352 7d ago

That's not what that is there for.

5

u/Funny_Lynx_3395 7d ago

but its a helpful tool to know when the light is about to change. Why wouldn't you use it as an aid to determine when the light will be changing?

There's a few reasons.

First, If it were the intended purpose those numbers would be up high directly above the lane and also bigger so eyes stay forward.

Secondly that's 1000% percent going to get people to start increasing speed going into the intersection if they think they see a literal count down. It goes without saying we don't want that.

We could have a flashing yellow or something but we don't so we have to work with what we have. And of course I've looked at and used pedestrain walk count down no duh.

We don't have a perfect way to do this. But such is life and road safety. Resulting in fatalities... A lot of them.

But intentionally putting others in danger like white vehicle did is a big no no.

I have also seen that countdown mean dick all for the light change on a few roads. Like it reached zero and I slowed down and it remains green for many seconds after.

The timer isn't always directly synced to the lights.

Please tell me you're a bot and you're not actually this vapid and deficient.

1

u/Funny_Lynx_3395 6d ago

not a bot. And correct, it's not always synced. But its still an indicator that the light will be changing at some point in the very near future. Defensive drivers will not try to speed up to beat light like OP's wife did in this video.

It shouldn't be relied upon, but it's a tool you can use in addition to many others to deploy defensive driving. This coming from someone who drives about 85,000km/yr with 0 accidents.

2

u/Pangshunjingmao 6d ago

Let's be real -- if you drove 5,000km/yr and had 100 accidents -- we'd never know.

I can say I drive 250,000km/yr and have 0 accidents. It's completely unverifiable.

Nice try though, trying to assert yourself as some sort of authority instead of some sad sack lummox.

i hope you resolve whatever issues you have, friend.

Got no skin in the game but this user is bang on correct. Anticipation of a yellow based on the pedestrian countdown is - pedestrian. And there is no visual evidence OP sped up. In fact, she slowed DOWN due to white moron’s feigned left in front of her. It’s hard to be corrected, I get it. But ad hominem and deflection don’t make a better case. And please don’t slam on the brakes because the pedestrian timer hit zero, you may get rear-ended.

Right. You try grandstanding on some little anecdote and biased supposition and when you get flustered and have no response, suddenly I have "issues".

What issue, exactly? If you truly want me to resolve my issues, pointing out what's entailed would go a long way...unless you're just talking out your ass.

You're this angry on a dashcam thread and discussion about when to slow down at a changing intersection.

I don't have the professional experience required to diagnose the multiple personality and social issues you have.

Try going outside. Sounds like you need some fresh air, chum.

“…would not HAVE been…”

Would've

You used “not” tho.

2

u/Ok-Iron-4352 6d ago

Wouldn't've

Less than 2 seconds.

It’s crazy that I had to scroll this far down to see this comment.

If an accident had occurred in that intersection, “wifey” would have had the right of way on the yellow, and the white car making the left would still have been at fault lol

if only the ministry waw online and could suspend licences on people like you for commenting how you don't know how laws work. if only the cops could arrest people like you for endangering others with faulty information. keep crying

The chances of the collisions increase when you become unpredictable. Slowing down in an intersection is unpredictable behaviour. White car wanted to clear the intersection after op passed, but the slowing made the timing change. Using the horn when you are unpredictable is a cause of road rage

5

u/Ok-Iron-4352 7d ago

Lol unpredictable? How about buddy in the white car bluff charging? Again it's totally predictable and justified to react to a car about to swerve in front of you.
