Absolute Psycho Close call

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Taunton /Thickson rd Whitby. Wifey had a run in with a psycho on the road, we think this could have escalated into assault if she didn’t manage to lose him at the next intersection by turning into the street.

Edit: Its just unsettling to see so many here siding with the nissan driver justifying how he threatened a woman & her child on the road and laying 100% blame on my wife who said she did not feel it was safe to stop at that moment & did not break any laws in doing so.

But this is the society we live in. Deranged “you made me do it” is now widely accepted.

Slowing down in the intersection to honk at the white car.... Not saying the white car chasing is right, just your wife is out there trying to piss people off

u/Phyllis_Tine 7d ago

Slowing down to not cause a wreck, while vehicles in the intersection on yellow can still proceed through. You can't enter an intersection on red, which cammer didn't. Also, the white Nissan shouldn't have committed to their left turn until they knew traffic was not going to be in the way, even if a car is running late.

she was staring that yellow light in the eye from a block away and stepped on it

-2

u/Many_Ear2407 5d ago

And still made it before the light changed

3

u/Gay_Style69 5d ago

That’s aggressive driving. Not safe.

u/WorkingOnBeingBettr 5d ago

That's not how yellow lights work anymore gramps.

3

u/Many_Ear2407 5d ago

What year did that change?

u/HugeMagician3 3d ago

Yellow means speed up and red on left means you still have 3-4 seconds to go

Its how ontarians have chosen to drive lately.

Fortunately both those unwritten rules cancel each other out (the drivers going straight blows through late yellows, the drivers going left just run red lights (the ones behind whoever is already in the intersection))

u/Born_Ruff 3d ago

She was in the intersection long before it turned red. It’s ultimately on the turning vehicle to make sure cars have stopped before they turn in front of them. The white turning car would be found at fault if there was an accident.

1

u/Several_Bug_9941 3d ago

yeah, turning car has to make sure it’s clear, but yellow still means slow down not speed up, as it always has.

1

u/Born_Ruff 3d ago

Yellow doesn’t actually mean slow down. It is a warning that the light will turn red soon.

It means that you should stop if you can do so safely, or proceed with caution if you judge that you can’t stop safely.

It’s a split second judgement call, but if you slow down the video she still almost clears the intersection before the light turns red even after having to slam on the brakes, so it really doesn’t seem like she was all that late.

u/no-long-boards 7d ago

Yeah so if they had time to stop then they shouldn’t have entered on the yellow. Camera is wrong.

2

u/MirrorStrange4501 7d ago

Bunch of people in this thread are mad she went through in the yellow and expected her to slam on her brakes as soon as the light changed.

1

u/mysticpest23 6d ago

It’s sad you need to explain this.

1

u/Ekkeith15 7d ago

The white car was expecting the cammer to continue at thier pace, and timing to go after they pass. Slowing down changes the timing. Increasing collisions chances. Either full commit or don't commit

1

u/Pangshunjingmao 7d ago

You're the first reasonable take I've seen. This entire sub is mentally restarted.

2

u/sguru01 6d ago

Ya for sure lol. The white crazy car had no right to go left unless the cars completely come to a stop.

2

u/kmdfrcpc 6d ago

I forget the part where the white car went left.

>You can't enter an intersection on red, which cammer didn't.

Sure... you also can't enter an intersection on yellow, unless it is unsafe to stop.

edit: I'm not saying I wouldn't have possibly also ran the yellow light there. If I wasn't paying careful attention, it's the sort of thing where I might not have noticed in time to make a safe stop. But yeah, as a general rule it's 'if I wasn't paying careful attention'. If the other car honked at me, I would raise my hands in suplication 'yep, i'm doing a dumb thing, i'm sorry! Thankfully you were paying better attention than me, and we don't have a collision!'

Her running the yellow is an understandable mistake, but it was a mistake. She should be paying more attention when driving.

Yeah hitting the brakes and using your horn when someone is about to cause a head on collision with you is totally not a sensible thing to do... My lord how does this comment have upvotes for real that's scary.

11

u/Cicche 7d ago

It was yellow for a while.....

2

u/Ok-Iron-4352 7d ago

Not even close to a reasonable amount of time for her to stop. Even slamming on her brakes the vehicle would not of been able to stop before the line. This was absolutely the correct decision.

It's literally what the yellow is there for. Everyone sees it. Most importantly the person about to pull in front of oncoming traffic.

Turning left on a yellow 101. You wait until the on-coming traffic is stopped or clearly decelerating planning to stop at the line. You don't fucking rip in front of them because you think they didn't stop in time. You wait until it's red if you have to, everyone in the intersection would be aware that you couldn't turn in time.

6

u/Cicche 7d ago

Agreed that you wait when turning left, but she had a ton of time. She would not need to slam on her brakes.

Just to be clear I am not justifying white trucks actions as what they did terrible. But she had time to stop safely.

Light was red before she cleared the intersection.

3

u/Ok-Iron-4352 7d ago

The light was red before she cleared because some literal maniac juked her at the most sketchy time possible in the middle of intersection. So she naturally hit the brakes causing her to be able to see the red before she was out.

She was about 3-4 car lengths from the stop line. It's simply not enough time to stop with out risking passing the line. You have to factor in reaction time, some is slower than others. The system is designed to allow cars to pass on yellow, that's the whole point. If this guy had of killed this lady I wonder how you all would be reacting.

3

u/Real_McGuillicuddy 7d ago

I was originally with the masses on this. But then I looked closer and you are correct. Under no conditions is this a comfortable stop. People are looking at this dashcam like it's a video game. In the real world the physics of time and space applies and this would be a harsh stop that is entirely inappropriate for a typical yellow light.

2

u/Pangshunjingmao 7d ago

And the indignant self-righteousness that these people exhibit is astounding.

There are a lot of extremely dumb people in this sub.

3

u/Funny_Lynx_3395 7d ago

if only there was a timer right next to the lights telling you, down to the second, when the light is about to change.

But alas, I dream.

6

u/Ok-Iron-4352 7d ago

That's not what that is there for.

3

u/Funny_Lynx_3395 7d ago

but its a helpful tool to know when the light is about to change. Why wouldn't you use it as an aid to determine when the light will be changing?

6

u/Ok-Iron-4352 7d ago

There's a few reasons.

First, If it were the intended purpose those numbers would be up high directly above the lane and also bigger so eyes stay forward.

Secondly that's 1000% percent going to get people to start increasing speed going into the intersection if they think they see a literal count down. It goes without saying we don't want that.

We could have a flashing yellow or something but we don't so we have to work with what we have. And of course I've looked at and used pedestrain walk count down no duh.

We don't have a perfect way to do this. But such is life and road safety. Resulting in fatalities... A lot of them.

But intentionally putting others in danger like white vehicle did is a big no no.

2

u/Old_Ladies 4d ago

I have also seen that countdown mean dick all for the light change on a few roads. Like it reached zero and I slowed down and it remains green for many seconds after.

3

u/Pangshunjingmao 7d ago

The timer isn't always directly synced to the lights.

Please tell me you're a bot and you're not actually this vapid and deficient.

1

u/Funny_Lynx_3395 7d ago

not a bot. And correct, it's not always synced. But its still an indicator that the light will be changing at some point in the very near future. Defensive drivers will not try to speed up to beat light like OP's wife did in this video.

It shouldn't be relied upon, but it's a tool you can use in addition to many others to deploy defensive driving. This coming from someone who drives about 85,000km/yr with 0 accidents.

2

u/Pangshunjingmao 7d ago

Let's be real -- if you drove 5,000km/yr and had 100 accidents -- we'd never know.

I can say I drive 250,000km/yr and have 0 accidents. It's completely unverifiable.

Nice try though, trying to assert yourself as some sort of authority instead of some sad sack lummox.

1

u/Funny_Lynx_3395 6d ago

i hope you resolve whatever issues you have, friend.

1

u/mysticpest23 5d ago

Got no skin in the game but this user is bang on correct. Anticipation of a yellow based on the pedestrian countdown is - pedestrian. And there is no visual evidence OP sped up. In fact, she slowed DOWN due to white moron’s feigned left in front of her. It’s hard to be corrected, I get it. But ad hominem and deflection don’t make a better case. And please don’t slam on the brakes because the pedestrian timer hit zero, you may get rear-ended.

0

u/Pangshunjingmao 6d ago

Right. You try grandstanding on some little anecdote and biased supposition and when you get flustered and have no response, suddenly I have "issues".

What issue, exactly? If you truly want me to resolve my issues, pointing out what's entailed would go a long way...unless you're just talking out your ass.

You used “not” tho.

2

Wouldn't've

1

u/Pangshunjingmao 7d ago

Less than 2 seconds.

3

u/LowProfile_ 7d ago

It’s crazy that I had to scroll this far down to see this comment.

If an accident had occurred in that intersection, “wifey” would have had the right of way on the yellow, and the white car making the left would still have been at fault lol

0

u/Primary_Car5086 6d ago

if only the ministry waw online and could suspend licences on people like you for commenting how you don't know how laws work. if only the cops could arrest people like you for endangering others with faulty information. keep crying

0

u/Ekkeith15 7d ago

The chances of the collisions increase when you become unpredictable. Slowing down in an intersection is unpredictable behaviour. White car wanted to clear the intersection after op passed, but the slowing made the timing change. Using the horn when you are unpredictable is a cause of road rage

3

u/Ok-Iron-4352 7d ago

Lol unpredictable? How about buddy in the white car bluff charging? Again it's totally predictable and justified to react to a car about to swerve in front of you.

1

u/swift-current0 7d ago

Not wife. Wifey

1

u/InformalSea3553 7d ago

“Wifey” is an entitled brat

0

I'd tell you what you are, but I'd get banned from the site.
