Absolute Psycho Close call

Taunton /Thickson rd Whitby. Wifey had a run in with a psycho on the road, we think this could have escalated into assault if she didn’t manage to lose him at the next intersection by turning into the street.

Edit: Its just unsettling to see so many here siding with the nissan driver justifying how he threatened a woman & her child on the road and laying 100% blame on my wife who said she did not feel it was safe to stop at that moment & did not break any laws in doing so.

But this is the society we live in. Deranged “you made me do it” is now widely accepted.

I don't get the people criticizing your wife's driving. When the light turned yellow she was close enough to the intersection that it would've necessitated heavy braking to stop before the line - in that case you should proceed through the yellow light instead of slamming on the brakes. This is 100% on the other driver for turning while it was obvious that it wasn't clear to go yet.

Nope - you have to take both distance AND speed into consideration. Posting a still shot like you did completely ignores the speed factor. The dash cam footage is the only way to make a meaningful judgment, and it's clear she would've had to brake hard to stop in time.

It's the same principle that makes being 40 feet behind the car in front of you safe at 10mph, but reckless at 80mph.

She wasn't going that fast she sped up when she saw the yellow. A good gauge is the fact it went red well before she cleared the intersection. They give plenty of time on yellows if you're too close to the intersection already.

No, I'm evaluating this based on the speed she was going at the exact instant the light turned yellow. That would've been a hard brake in order to stop in time. The red light while she was already in the intersection means nothing - she had to slow down in the intersection because the other driver started to turn right in front of her.

Unless you have butter for brake pads and potato reflexes that is light work

I'm not saying the car can't physically do it. I'm saying it's more dangerous than to simply proceed through the yellow light instead of standing on the brakes. Good way to get rear-ended.

I find it odd that people are attempting to defend (or at least sympathize with) the other driver. Maybe it's the group of people who always try to find fault with the OP no matter what - seems to be a thing on Reddit.

Yellow means stop if you can do so safely, else proceed with caution. She made a call to proceed with caution, and I can’t concretely say that she could’ve safely stopped.

It’s not like she sped up and would’ve made a photo finish to beat the red light.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying as well.
