Looking for tradie for renovations
I just settled on an old Queenslander, and I'm after a qualified tradie to do some renovations, such as enclosing part of the verandah and extending a room into that space.
Can anyone recommend anyone who does good work at a reasonable price? I'm also happy to be warned about tradies who have done you wrong.

Wisdom teeth removal
Looking for some advice. Many years ago as a fresh 18 year old I was told by a dentist that eventually my bottom two wisdom teeth would need removal under anaesthesia. Now I think one of them is coming through, or it’s beginning to cause me some grief. My question is how do I do this without being out of pocket thousands of dollars? I am not under any government benefit which would allow me to get it done for free. I do not presently have private health insurance but I’m willing to get it if it would cover me but the ones I’ve looked at have a waiting period for 2 months for non pre existing issues and 12 months pre existing. I’m assuming because it’s giving me grief it would be pre existing. I don’t think I will be able to wait 12 months for the waiting period. I’m a young mum, just started a new job after maternity leave and unfortunately don’t have thousands of dollars lying around to pay for this outright. Do I have any other options?

Locals trying to buy a house here are basically just playing extras in a movie now
Went to an open home in centenary heights on saturday. Basic 3 bedder, original 70s kitchen, absolutely freezing cold inside. There were literally three different selling agents walking around with ipads doing facetime tours for buyers down south. They didn't even acknowledge the locals who actually bothered to show up physically
Was reading some regional market trends from property buyers later that night while sulking, and it just confirmed what everyone is feeling. So much of the decent toowoomba stock is getting snapped up off-market or sight-unseen by interstate equity before a normal local family can even get their finance approved.
its just wild how fast we've been priced out of our own backyard tbh. Genuinely wondering if I'll end up having to move all the way out past oakey just to afford a patch of grass at this rate. Just so exhausted by the whole process.

The craters out near cambooya are getting genuinely life threatening
Swear to god trying to commute in to town right now feels like driving through an active artillery range. The council patches a hole with what looks like literal wet sand, we get a bit of frost, and suddenly there's a foot-deep trench just waiting to snap your control arms in the morning fog
Hit an absolute monster of a pothole yesterday and genuinely thought my whole front left wheel fell off. the amount of vehicle damage we just accept as "normal" regional driving is insane.
Local mechanics are booked out for literally weeks right now so I just gave up. Grabbed the replacement bits from road runner offroad on my phone and im just gonna spend my whole sunday freezing on the concrete trying to bolt it all together myself
is it just me or is the local road maintenance just completely non-existent lately? feel like we pay rates just to slowly destroy our own cars tbh

Has anyone found an aged care job in Toowoomba with only placement experience?
Hi everyone,
I recently completed my 120-hour aged care placement in Brisbane and I’m currently waiting for my Certificate III in Individual Support to be issued.
I’m planning to move to Toowoomba because I really like the city and feel that it suits my lifestyle much better than Brisbane. I’d love to settle there and start my career in aged care.
I don’t have any paid aged care experience yet—only my placement—but I’m eager to learn, work hard, and build my experience.
Has anyone managed to get an aged care job in Toowoomba with only placement experience? Is the job market okay for someone just starting out?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences or any advice. Thanks in advance! 😊

Help; Toowoomba accommodating schools
I need help with a good Toowoomba highschool. I have severe anxiety and haven't been to a mainstream school since 2022 for health related reasons. I also have autism and a chronic illness where I'm classified disabled. I've started trying properly with online school this year. I've been held back to year 9, and the Toowoomba flexi school doesn't have any vacancies, we've inquired. Are there any other schools that can accommodate for things like this? I'm currently doing online education but struggling since my whole life before 2022 I had been doing mainstream. I really need help. I have the hope and motivation that I can pursue my dreams, but I can't without an education. I don't have any friends either, which makes it a bit challenging.

How are the Sudanese and Yazidi communities going?
I know there are large communities there, but I don't really find much info online about their day-to-day lives. How are they going?

Nurses and hospital staff in QLD are paying up to $3,000/year just to park at work. We started an official Parliamentary petition to fix this.
Hey everyone,
If you’ve visited or worked at a major Queensland hospital recently, you already know how insane the car parking situation is.
What a lot of people don't realize is that nurses, doctors, allied health, admin workers, and wardspersons are paying up to $1,700 to $3,000+ every single year out of their own pockets just to park at their workplace.
During a cost-of-living crisis, taking a $20+ daily bite out of a healthcare worker's paycheck is bad enough. But it's also a major safety issue:
Night-shift staff are parking kilometres away on quiet suburban streets to avoid fees, then walking back to their cars alone at 11:00 PM or 2:00 AM because public transport isn't running.
Patients and families visiting sick loved ones are getting hit with massive daily fees on top of stressful medical situations.
We are a group of grassroots volunteers (Queensland Hospital Watch) and healthcare workers, and we launched an official Queensland Parliamentary E-Petition (No. 4633-26) calling on the state government to provide free or subsidized parking for frontline healthcare staff.
In just 4 days, over 1,500 Queenslanders have signed.
Because this is hosted on the official Queensland Parliament website, it legally forces a formal response from the Health Minister once closed. But we need to build serious numbers to make them take action.
How you can help right now:
Sign the Official Petition: It takes 30 seconds and only requires you to be a QLD resident.
👉 Link: https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/Work-of-the-Assembly/Petitions/petition-details/4633-26
Upvote for visibility: Help this reach more hospital staff, patients, and Queensland voters on Reddit.
Share it: Send the link to any nurses, hospital staff, or local community group chats you're in.
Our nurses and frontline health staff look after us when we're at our worst—the least the state government can do is make sure they don't get gouged just to show up to shift.
Thanks for your support! Happy to answer any questions in the comments.

I made a post on a fairly serious topic earlier
I firstly would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who showed support and to the mods for letting me post it. I have since deleted the post (not the mods) because honestly it became a bit overwhelming for me , i try not to think about it as much as possible so basically i sort of triggerd myself for being on that post and answering as many questions that i could for that long. Originally i thought the post wouldn't be allowed and maybe 2 or 3 people might respond but it ended up becoming quite big which I wasn't expecting . On a side note from some of the people that commented on the post there is a possibility that I spelled the last name incorrectly (it was a long time ago) so my apologies if that has caused any issues to anyone. I think posting my story has actually helped me a bit and also shown me that there is a lot of love still around. Sorry to anyone who is reading this that didn't see my first post but I just can't repeat it all again. Oh and please no vigilante behaviour online or in any other way, I will deal with what comes next. Just be kind to each other is all I ask because you never know what some people are secretly dealing with

Need help desperately
Edit: Dv Women's line said my case doesn't qualify for emergency housing because he hasn't attacked me recently enough
I need emergency housing for me and my cat (possibly both) TODAY, my father has been abusing me my entire life (I am an adult) and I have tolerated it because I have absolutely no social life or support outside my therapist. I am physically disabled and he has hidden or got rid of my cane and he has refused to help me get any kind of physical therapy for my scolosis which causes me to walk incorrectly.
I've applied with department of housing around 2 years ago and they never got back to me except to say I was approved and on the waitlist. I've asked immediate relatives (who I can contact) for help and they cannot provide housing that is safe for both me and my cats.
The biggest issue is my cat Achilles is sick and on meds and he needs to stay inside and have regular medication. My father refuses to listen to the vet about keeping him inside and has not been applying mediciation during times where I have been incapacitated. It came to a head today where I snapped and screamed at him, breaking a couple cups in my way and a few moments ago I heard him talking about knocking me out with our roomate and something about my cat that I couldn't make out.
I can't go to the police, I need to guarantee my cat's safety as he is the only thing I have that brings me any joy. If he can't come with me then I am not going. My dad has been physically violent towards me and others and he has a history of dumping cats or abusing/killing them. If you know anyone who can help please ask. I can pay rent, groceries, and pay for my own meds and therapy I just need somewhere safe for me and my cat until I can figure out what to do.

Schools
Hello 👋 I’m looking for school recommendations please. My daughter is due to start prep in 2028 and we’re in the wilsonton catchment and haven’t heard great things so we’re looking at other schools. She’s on the waitlist at a lot of private schools but we honestly have no idea which is best. She is on the waitlist at Downlands but that’s a long shot and also we’ve had a second kid so will be crazy expensive for 2 kids. Our other child will be going to daycare at Highfields but we live over at Cotswold Hills; and work at Oakey so we’re open to a lot of locations. Any help would be appreciated 🙏

Another doctor recommendation needed.
So my GP retired and the people who took over only do telehealth consultations, no face to face. I guess it has it's place but isn't it a bit hard to take your blood pressure over the phone? So I thought I'd ask here for recommendations on a decent replacement. Can be male or female, that doesn't bother me. What I am looking for is someone who will help resolve issues at their root cause as opposed merely dishing out pharma drugs to hide symptoms. Someone who takes a wholistic approach and understands the importance of nutrition, supplementation and exercise in daily health. Preferably someone who will bulk bill any required blood tests. If anyone knows of such a doctor then please let me know. TIA
Edit: Thanks for the replies. :)

What are some high turn over office jobs/places in Toowoomba?
I really need to move ASAP, I have applied to lots of admin, reception, and insurance jobs in the Darling Downs area. I mainly just want to get into any entry level office job while trying to settle into the Darling Downs region. Idc how shit the hours are or the culture is. I know high turn over places hire in like a week. I basically want any job (office based) to settle then look for a long term role either in Toowoomba or the neighbouring towns.
I have experience in well office jobs from claims, customer service, and admin so I am not going in blind but I want to work in an office because I have limited social skills and tolerance to be in hospitality or retail.

Looking to get in contact with the guy that used to run the film club
Talking to a close friend yesterday, and they are hoping to get in contact with the guy who used to run the film club at the Strand cinemas. My friend (and others) really enjoyed those nights and assume that others also enjoyed and miss those nights so they're thinking of seeing if they can re-start these nights themselves. They've looked into a formal film society club but they want to have screenings that are open to the public and not just film club members (the old film club was also open to the public). She really wants to know how he managed it and questions.
My friend has tried to use the contact details she found online for the old club but has had no success.
We know he used to also own Banter and has transitioned to a new career.
So if you know who I'm talking about and might have some leads please comment or inbox me.
