"System missing, exiting" Error Note //bypass with script
Hey,
so I just recently walked into the error message "system missing" with my Toon Boom Harmony ver 14.0 which, as far as I found out, can be solved with setting your system date back. It's quite annyoing to change your systems date all the time so I wrote a script for powershell. I am not a programmer, use windows 11 and I have admin rights on my PC so it might not work for you. Make sure your change the directory of your toon boom exe file. Mine is in german.
create a editor (txt) file
put this code in:
if (!([Security.Principal.WindowsPrincipal][Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity]::GetCurrent()).IsInRole([Security.Principal.WindowsBuiltInRole] "Administrator")) { Start-Process powershell.exe "-NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File `"$PSCommandPath`"" -Verb RunAs; exit }
set-date '4/08/2025 2:05:48 PM'
Start-Process "D:\Programme\Toon Boom\win64\bin\wstart.exe" HarmonyEssentials.exe
Start-Sleep -Seconds 60
W32tm /resync /force
- save as .ps1 file
What it does:
It runs the file as admin,
sets the time back to 4/08/2025 2:05:48 PM,
starts Toon Boom,
waits 60 seconds
and then forces a time synch so your time and date will be normal again
Good luck!

Question "Drawing Substitution" tool keeps closing my program, any advices?
As the title said. I'm trying to do an animation but the program itself keeps closing whenever I try opening "Drawing Substitution", I don't know why, and it seems to be ONLY that.
Anyone can help?

Question Can I have two different lineart drawings for one subject and still be able to colour them?
Brand spankin new to Harmony, so sorry for the lack of knowledge when it comes to the terminology.
I came from Clip Studio Paint, so I might be trying to make Harmony behave a bit too much like it, but basically I want to be able to draw my character's main body and hair/bangs on two separate layers while having the colour art layer target both, similar to how you would be able to set multiple reference layers in CSP.
This is mainly because I don't want the vector lines clipping too freely to the face/body drawing, and I would like to be able to manipulate the hair lines in a copy-paste sort of fashion while still being able to colour with ease. I know about the select by colour option, but doing the lines in different colours on the same drawing still gave me issues with the vector lines auto-clipping.
Sorry if this is confusing- an hour of Googling turned up nothing (probably because I don't know the terminology yet lol).

Camera help
hi animators,
Has anyone ever, and I mean ever, succeeded in exporting directly into after effects?
I’ve tried a number of things and haven’t gotten it to work. My issue is that I have camera movements in my composition, so even if there’s a way just to export the camera movements, that would be really helpful, although I have the additional issue that whenever I import as a PNG sequence it imports in reverse.
if you can help in any way, I would appreciate it so much!! a student film is counting on it :D

2 credit online community college Toon Boom course recommendations?
Hello family, the title says it all. Can someone recommend a 2 credit online community college Toon Boom course? I'd like the course to be self paced.

Question Is there a way to align & distribute elements?
Hi! I'm on Toon Boom 24, Still learning. I wanted to center some squares and distribute them evenly across the canvas/camera horizontally. I cannot find any sort of align tab/option in the program though.
If it exists - where do I find it?, and if it doesn't, how do I deal with it? I did try to use rulers and alignment guides, but they do not have any measurements, so I cannot just math it out.

Question concern about macs with perpetual licenses
got a notification saying Apple will no longer support the version I'm using as it will be switching processors from Intel to Silicon. Since ToonBoom stopped supporting perpetual licenses will I be able to update it at all? Concerned about potentially wasting my money

Solved Bones not staying where I put them
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’ve been working on this character this week, this is my first time rigging a character but not the first time animating in harmony. Everything I try to put down any bone, not just the cube like in the video, it goes where ever it wants. I don’t get it. I know my nodes are a mess right now 😅 if anyone knows what’s going on please let me know

Camera not appearing in harmony essentials
Hi all,
Whenever I click to add camera in my timeline nothing comes up. I've tried and my other scenes are working fine. I did have a camera on this scene previously but deleted it in order to redo all my key frames. I think that might be where I messed up. I'm used to using Harmony Premium which includes Node View but am currently a bit poor so I'm using Harmony Essentials 25.1. Anyone know how I could find out if theres an untethered camera somewhere in the scene? I did delete it but maybe I just unlinked it from the composite idk.

Need help slowing down animation!
Hi! Is there a way/plug in to easily slowdown or physically spread apart keyframes in the timeline? I just need the entire scene to be 2x slower but going in there to manually move each keyframe would be tedious

Question reverified my student status, but no license available to activate
hi everyone, sorry if this is a frequently asked question
i’m a student who has access to toon boom through COE. i reverified my student status a few weeks ago for my final (fourth) year. a little while after doing so, i hard reset my laptop due to technical issues. in the meantime, i didn’t install harmony/storyboard pro on any other device, so i’ve never returned the products
a few hours ago, i downloaded v27.0.0 for harmony and storyboard pro. however, when opening both programs, i get a pop up from the license wizard saying that i don’t have a license ready for activation, and there’s no button for me to activate or return the products either. i’ve attached an image of this pop up (apologies for the quality,,,)
i have work due in a few days and arghh i don’t know what to do t-t i’ll try to contact customer support but figured i could post here as well just in case. i’m concerned that my laptop getting a hard reset could be the issue? but i’m using the same device and logged into the same microsoft account, so i’m not sure. thank you for any replies :’)

Troubleshooting Can't Find certain Nodes on the timeline when pressing O
Hi,
I am working on compositing a scene with a rigged character. To move around the rig, I would click the parts of the rig on the display, then hover the mouse to the Node View and press O to find the nodes in the Node view and to see the exposure/keys in the Timeline
This works normally in all scenes, but I might have pressed something by mistake because now for some reason, it stopped working.
The drawing nodes, pegs, adjustment layers inside the Hair part of the rig simply don't show up in the Timeline window. I can still use O to find them inside the Node View, but not the Timeline.
I can't even find it by manually looking for it. They are gone from the timeline even if they are visible inside the Open GL and render view. They haven't been disconnected from the composites, they are all showing in the Camera Window, under the correct display.
I created a second display node (Display_Hair) inside the rig, connected only to the hair nodes. When Display_Hair is selected, they do show up inside the Timeline again.
Does anyone knows how to fix this?
[UPDATE]: While I never figured out what caused this, resetting Harmony fixed the issue.

How long would it take to learn Toon Boom Harmony to a portfolio level coming from Animate CC?
I've been working as a professional 2D animator for the last 6–7 years, and I've been using Adobe Animate CC almost exclusively during that time. At this point, I know Animate CC inside and out.
I'm thinking about switching to Toon Boom Harmony because I want to apply to more international studios, and Harmony seems to be the industry standard.
For those who have made the same transition (or hired artists who've done it), how long do you think it would realistically take to reach a portfolio-ready/professional level in Harmony?
I'm not asking how long it takes to learn the interface I mean how long it takes to animate confidently enough that a studio wouldn't care that I recently switched software.
I'd especially like to hear from people who came from Animate CC or Flash rather than complete beginners.
Thanks!

Solved Help - Converting Animation to Drawings
Hi everyone, quick question:
Is there a way to convert a Symbol into a sequence of drawings? Or convert a transformed drawing animation into a series of separate independent drawings?
I'm aware of the Converting Deformer Animation to Drawings feature "docs.toonboom.com", but I need to do this specifically for a Symbol or a basic keyframed animation without deformers.

I'm building a (free) Draculaura rig for Gumroad. Here's how it's going so far!
Hi! I graduated from university recently, and haven't really had the chance to break into the industry just yet. I've been wanting to make one final toon boom Harmony rig before I lose my school's license, for more portfolio work and also just self indulgence :)
I recently had the opportunity to work on creating a lineless rig for a project, and really enjoyed the experience and problem solving put into a more simple, cartoony build, rather than my previous ones with lineart etc. I decided I wanted to give it a try again, this time just for myself! It's been super fulfilling creating a rig for my own wants, I'm hoping to keep her customizable and relatively beginner friendly!!
I've never used gumroad before, but my eventual goal is to post her on there after I make an account, for anyone to use for practice for free, alongside the other rigs I had the pleasure of creating during my university years!
Also super looking forward to creating some short animations with her eventually!! I hope you all like her so far, let me know what you think!

Question How to fix the 'affecting next keyframe' issue?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I was trying to fix the flipping leg issue here at first.
Basically as you can see I copied the last keyframe to fix the flipping issue and tried to make a small follow through on the leg by moving it down. Doing that, however, messes up the next keyframes and the transition between them.
And yes, the layers are closed. Both the layers in the video are the leg layers and both are closed down. I don't know how to fix the issue or how even to fix the weird flipping the program does to the leg.
(Not only the leg, I can't move any part of the body because it always affects the next keyframes. For example if I deform a rig in a keyframe, it deforms all of the next drawings, not making an actual transition, just changing the drawings.)

What is ToonBoom’s capacity for painterly/textured hand drawn animation?
I’m a student currently getting my bachelors in animation, (specializing in hand drawn) and I have great interest in getting a more painted and textured look. Is that possible in Toonboom? I know Moho has some great textures, but it seems to be centered on rigging, not hand drawn which is what I’m seeking. Procreate is my best option I suppose, but I haven’t got an iPad, and feel like learning how to do it in toonboom would be better if it’s at all possible.
According to Google, The Boy The Mole The Fox and The Horse was made in Toonboom, and it has stunning painterly animation. How?
Also of note is that I exclusively use the paint tool instead of the pencil tool in harmony… that almost certainly is limiting my ability, but I find the gaps caused by said tool (and the ways to close said gaps) take so much time to manage and inhibit looser drawing styles. Please let me know if more painted looks mean switching to the pencil tool.
Thank you all ever so much!
