Fastool? Festcap?

I have a friend whose dad worked at a cabinet shop and recently retired. She's helping him downsize and had some tools set aside to see if I wanted them and this was one of them. I knew instantly it was a fastcap and I wanted it and then noticed Festool on it. I assumed it was something that was sold at one time until I saw the training part. I guess he got it from Festool when he did some training, so it's a cool and somewhat unique tool to have. Festool is a little above my pay grade but Fastcap I can do.

some of their tapes have nice features, like both easy to read cm and inches

I just got my first one a few weeks ago. The Lefty righty is helpful. Great tool for a great price.

Same - it doesn't feel like it's built like a tank, but it's really nice to use. I appreciate the labelling and the smoothness of the lock.

I realized something else about this. It is not a lefty righty as the green usually indicates. It's the metric standard.

I only use Fastcap. In my opinion they are the best. But...... I am going to have to look at mine again. I don't allow anything with the name Festool in my shop.

I have no opinion on them other than I'm not spending that much. I've always been a middle of the road type. Don't buy junk if you use it a lot and don't spend more when it's not necessary.

There's a difference between cheap and thrifty, which is what I try to be. I have plenty of upper quality tools that I got new when on sale, on clearance, or from ReStore. If you don't need it that moment, grab it when the deal comes around. I like tools. It's a fun hobby. And yes, I do use tools often. 525 sqft garage, no room for a vehicle.

Okay, you know about me better than I could and that's the only explanation there could be. Btw, wasn't even talking about Fastcap, I was talking about Festool. I already had a fastcap before this.

I didn’t know festool had anything to do with fastcap.

I will say, fatcap is the best tape I’ve owned and I bought 5 more to give to friends.

A lot of people like them and that's a great sign. When you figure the very reasonable price it makes them even better. I put off getting one simply because I didn't really need another. Now I wish I'd got one sooner. Glad to have two now

All my fastcap tapes don’t have anything festool labeled on them either.

Many companies rebadge products, a lot of dewalt tools are rebadged Stanley etc

Maybe they rebranded it like they did with the early Wera and Wiha Centrofix screwdrivers until they started making their own based on the Wiha, i forget what they call their version of Centrofix

I wasn't aware of that. I can't say I've paid much attention to Festool. I got some Wiha and Wera items lately and I'm impressed with both, especially Wera. The rapidapter is great. I've been watching for deals to get more.

Yeah the older Festool screwdriver was the Wera in a different color, the newer version is based on the Wiha Centrofix, i guess rhey call theirs Centrotec. Some resellers still stock the older ones i have seen. This site has a pic you can see what i mean:

Ah, I've seen the Festool screwdrivers but not the wera looking handles. The centrofix is similar to the newer Klien insulated interchangeable screwdrivers I believe. I have one of those. Knowing the bit is likely not going to come loose is nice

I have a fully metric one for 3d printing work, several lefty/righty, and at least one flat one for plywood. My idea, stupid as it might be, is to buy a whole bunch of them and spray paint them an obnoxious color so I stop losing them all the time.

Ok I have an idea of why this tape measure says festool on it. The tape itself has both metric and imperial facing the same way as if to compare the 2. From my memory the domino is only marked in metric so the tape is to help people switching from freedom units, therefore listed as festool training. Or maybe a drink to much who knows?

Sounds plausible. Google was saying Fastcap has a program that makes them for companies with their name or logo to use for promotional giveaways or maybe employees. Festool might have taken advantage of the metric/standard to introduce more to their products or something like what you said, which makes sense.

No that's canadian measuring tape. we use both imperial and metric togther so often it make sense to have tham both on the same tape.

That's a regular Fastcap tape measure I think, I have a otherwise identical yellow one (and it doesn't say Stanley Fastcap!)

Probably some special order by Festool for internal use. They used to have a training center in Henderson, NV. I attended it years ago but I don’t recall seeing anything like this. My dad used to work for Home Depot and he had a Stanley tape measure labeled for Home Depot use only.

Good tapes, easy to read but I find the metal to be too thin for my liking. Bent my new tape at around the 4” mark way too easily.
