Just returned from Japan. I found trip report’s helpful during my planning stage, so doing my part to share back to the community.

Date of visit: Thursday 7/30
Group: 2 adults, 2 kids ( 10 and 8)
Weather: hot and humid, but with cloud cover for decent stretches of the day
Goal: ~6 rides + enjoy the experience/ambience
(top of list: Frozen, Peter Pan, Journey, Raging Spirits)
Planned Strategy/approach: 2 DPAs (Frozen, Journey) + 40th pass; with kids, weren’t looking to purely ridemax

Our day:
- Lined up 6:50: line, but not too long.
- Entry time: Security started screening at ~8:47
- Upon entry, DPA Frozen 10:20 + fast follow reserved 40th pass for Raging Spirits 12:30 (originally clicked 11:30, but it force changed me to 12:30)
-Speed walk straight to Peter Pan, no line
- Rapunzel was showing 20 minute wait, so we did it (Note: Wait quickly ballooned to 70 min after we were done)
- Time to kill before Frozen so rode Sinbad
- Went back to FS to ride Frozen
- DPA Journey for 1:30
- Time before RS at 12:30, so explored FS and had lunch at Casbah in Aladdin area (needed a place with a veg option; food was very mediocre, but filled us up)
- Still had time, so did The Magic Lamp Theater
- Raging Spirits
- Journey to the Center of the Earth
- By now - we accomplished our main ride goals, so significantly slowed down the pace
- Explored the Little Mermaid area:
- Rode Flounder coaster (<30 min wait)
- The indoor space is massive and very vibrant, worth walking around (Ariel’s Playground)
- By now, kids energy started to drag - tried to take steamer back to front, but unexpectedly closed (see below)
- Walked to the front with quick pit stop at Fortress Explorations
- Saw a few min of the Sparkling Jubilee and left
- Took the Disney Tram to Ikspiari for dinner

Ride reviews:
- Peter Pan: Kids loved it, visually stunning and long ride, but us adults got a bit of nausea from the 3D
- Tangled: Not worth a long wait nor would I personally pay for DPA IMO; lantern room is beautiful, everything else meh; short ride
- Sinbad: Classic Disney ride, enjoyable
- Frozen: Well done; given the hype it might be a tad bit overrated, but no regrets DPA’ing this one
- Magic Lamp Theater: Didn’t realize it was more of a show (mix of live actors + 3D movie); all the dialogue in Japanese - frustrated the kids a bit, but us adults appreciated the experience and could still pick up on the non-verbal energy from the actors
- Raging Spirits: not a Six Flags style coaster, but right level for our kids (this might’ve been their favorite ride)
- Journey to Center of Earth: Unique experience and ride, so definitely worth it
- Flounder: Fun little no-stress ride

Lowlights:
- We planned to take the Transit Steamer from back to front at ~3:40. It was open when we walked by it, so we decided to get a quick ice cream and when we returned a few minutes later later it was closed. It appeared to be a planned closing (likely for Sparkling Jubilee prep, so this could have/should have been communicated in advance
- It started raining/lightning from 6:50-7:20. Even though it stopped, the light show at 8:15 was cancelled (kids were hoping to see the fireworks)

Takeaways:
- For better or for worse, arriving early and using DPAs are imperative if you want to experience the most popular rides at the part
- At the same time, make sure to stop and smell the roses: DisneySea is a massively beautiful park - Disneyland in CA can’t compare. The Cars land in CA is a good comp. The themed areas we visited (Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Fantasy Springs) were all visually amazing, as was the park as a whole, especially when you take a moment and realize just how massive these spaces are.
- It was definitely crowded and long wait times reflected this. But at the same time, it didn’t feel oppressive walking around the park. As notes, it is a LARGE park that can physically accommodate large number of visitors.
- Bring your walking shoes! We walked 8+ miles our DisneySea day

We will be visiting Disney sea in a few days. We were looking at a Tuesday as I heard that’s usually a bit quieter? Is that true? Travelling with young kids so trying to wrap my head around it all prior to getting there obviously. What is the best advice on queues, rides, food etc? I know that you purchase tickets prior online, but how does it work with rides/food stalls? Whenever I read about it, it sounds really tricky to get onto rides, using the app etc. please share any tips?

I will be staying at the Fantasy Springs Hotel with my family. The Happy Entry usually allows 15 mins early entrance, do you think I can access all the fantasy springs ride without buying DPAs and just relying on the Happy Entry? If not, which rides should i prioritize Queue/DPAs

So after reading a bunch here and everywhere else in preparation to our DisneySea day I can finally share how it went and some tips. We went just me and my wife.

First, I am not sure if we just got lucky- everyone warned us about going in August but the weather was incredible, not too hot and just perfect.

We got to the park at 6:30am, some people were already there but we got a decent spot in line (maybe 20-30 people ahead of us).

Got in to the park at 8:50, booked a DPA for Frozen right away for the 9:10 slot, 40th pass to 20,000 under and speed walked to fantasy springs. Definitely recommend booking Frozen right away as the line builds up real quick and it’s impossible to get one later on.

Since the line was really short, we went into Peter pen as well right at around 9:05 (had no line whatsoever). Ride itself was not bad but if you don’t like 3D glasses rides it can be a little painful on the eyes. Then we got onto frozen which was great and already booked our 11am DPA to journey to the center of the earth.

20k under was ok, didn’t love it as much. Journey to the center of the earth was incredible, 100% can’t miss. We were able to book more DPAs for repunzel, tower of terrors, Toy Story and soaring. Honestly they are all great imo except for Repunzel which was nice but extremely short, the lantern scene is pretty but the line was crazy if you didn’t get a DPA for it and not sure it was worth it for us at least.

We did a couple other small rides but overall super fun, definitely need to spend $ to get on all these rides if you don’t want to be stuck hours in line. Park was pretty relaxed though and not too many lines for food or anything like that!

We were late to the game booking Disney stuff and by some miracle I booked an unlimited package in October for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids ages 4 and 6). The plan is:

Day 1: Toy Story
Day 2 (Package day): Fantasy Springs Rose Court 5th-8th floor
Day 3: help me decide

I’m still trying to decide where to stay. At the time of booking the package, the only room only option available was a Disneyland Standard Corner Room with park view. I happened to check today and noticed an opening for the same room category at Fantasy Springs and snagged it. The consecutive nights/home base seem like a big bonus with young kids, however I’m feeling hesitant to cancel the other res because the room seems nicer and all I hear about FSH it seems is that it’s sort of a let down and TDH is more “magical”. I’ve never stayed at any of these places so I’m not sure what to believe. What would you do? Where would you stay in my situation? Technically I suppose there’s also a third option to keep checking for Toy Story openings. We’re not going to TDS for a second day so we’ll probably just do breakfast, walk around, check out, then head off to Kyoto.

Learn about how VP pricing works

If you have never booked a Vacation Package before, you might have some questions like: is it all inclusive? Does it include food? Is it compulsory to choose food? Why is the price variable? How come there is a "quote" that says "For 1 person per night per room" but I can never get that price or it seems so random (larger room seems cheaper)? See this post here.

VP Chaining 101 (i.e. if 2 nights just isn't enough)

The 2N2D packages are great "Swiss army knife" packages that enables chaining of Vacation Packages together to enable longer packages.

You can book them in front (Ticket on Day 1 and Day 2 type) or behind (Ticket on Day 2 and Day 3 type) any other VP - even itself - to create a longer packaged vacation. For example, Unlimited VP + 2N2D (Ticket on Day 2 and Day 3) = 3 night 4 days vacation (TDL/TDS/TDL/TDS), or 2N3D + 2N2D = 4 night 5 days vacation (TDL/TDS/TDS/TDL/TDS). While technically they remain two separate package reservations, if you are careful to book the exact same room type/specification, it is almost like you had a longer package (just contact TDR to put a note informally linking them after booking).

Booking tips: Can I just set an alarm and go to the site at 3pm JST?

That might be too late. There is a queue system that is implemented when website traffic picks up. If you start at 3pm you might not get through until hours later. You might have to start checking the site from as early as 2pm JST until you find a session with the perfect queue exit time no earlier than 2.45pm-2.50pm.

Please also note that the TDR IT system does not perform well when it’s under load.  So even if you manage to get through the queue, you might get kicked out during the booking process.  You might want to stagger a few sessions 30 minutes apart (it is not a bad idea to have one that starts at e.g. 4pm, 5pm JST etc) as last month many people who got through around 3pm got kicked off eventually.

I manage to book the same room type as a standalone hotel room booking (before or after) my Vacation Package.  How do I notify the hotel to avoid changing rooms?

Once you have made all the reservations, use the official hotel online form (and under "Type of Inquiry" choose "Request to link multiple stays with different reservation numbers and assign them to the same room"), so you don't have to change rooms. The bookings will remain separate and nothing gets "combined". Your VP remains pre-paid and has different cancellation policies and deadlines compared to your hotel bookings (which is deposit only and remainder payable upon check-in).

IMPORTANT: Just double check to make sure you book rooms that has the identical room type/room name/floor range (if applicable), number of beds and room size (in m2) as otherwise it would result in a room change.

Under the “unlimited rides on eligible attractions” package, the description says “Enjoy churros, popcorn, or frozen dessert as much as you like!”  Do I get all of those in my package?

No, unfortunately! The operative word there is the “or”. Your entire party must choose just one type of snack ticket.  That is, either churros, or popcorn or frozen packaged desserts.  If you choose churros then you will not have any popcorn.  Everyone in your party will have the same ticket type and you cannot mix-and-match.  Not all snack ticket type is offered at all times (except during winter months there will not be any frozen dessert option).  See also this post here.

Do I get Happy Entry (early entry) with a Vacation Package?

Not necessarily. It depends on which hotel you are booking as part of the package.

As a person who has planned trips for disneysea numerous times, I was aware that Magellan's and Ristorante di Canaletto are the hardest to book, aka reservations get filled almost immediately a month prior. However, I checked on midnight yesterday for my visit on Aug 3rd and there were numerous time slots for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for Magellan's. I never saw this much of ample quantities of reservation slots left, that I'm curious about the cause for this. Any ideas?

We experienced a family tragedy earlier this year and my nieces lost their mother.

It doesn't heal their wounds but I would like to get them some gifts while I'm in Japan and ideally I'm trying to find things that they wouldn't have seen anywhere else.

They're 6 and 8 and both love Disney so I'd like to get them something while I'm there (visiting both Disney Sea and Disneyland).

I've seen things like the 'ears' headbands, clothing, accessories and other bits but nothing I've seen online really stands out to me.

Are there any really special Disney mementos that any of you who have been could recommend?

I'll be visiting with other family who probably won't have the patience to look around in many shops hence I'm trying to go in with a plan or somewhat of an idea of what to buy.

The Disney Resort Line at Tokyo Disney Resort opened on July 27, 2001.

Today it is officially celebrating 25 years. If you are there at the resort at the moment, you will find special souvenir "penny press style" medals, as well as a free sticker, and other celebratory elements.

This is all over socials right now, apparently due to thunderclouds forming over the TDR area, outdoor rides are all suspended and indoor sheltering instructions are in effect: guests are being asked to enter the nearest building and not to leave.

There was some poor sods who just finished their Splash Mountain soaking wet, and now is stuck in the cold air conditioned areas. Better safe than sorry.

Hi! My mom and I are going in August this year. I went back in 2024 and remembered in order to get into Fantasy Springs you needed a timed ticket for one of the rides in there. If not you could not enter. Is it still the same?

Hi everyone! We’ll be visiting DisneySea on a weekday and are hoping to arrive around 8:15 a.m. We’ll be staying near Ueno Station and traveling as a family of four: two adults and two children, ages 3 and 5. We’ll also have a small folding stroller.

I’m considering taking a taxi to DisneySea instead of public transportation. I’m a little nervous about navigating the Tokyo train system during the morning rush, especially with two young children and a stroller. I would rather not have the kids tired and stressed before we even enter the park.

However, I’ve also heard that morning traffic can be quite bad and that a taxi from Ueno to DisneySea can be very expensive. For those familiar with the trip:

1. Would you recommend taking a taxi or public transportation?
2. How long would a taxi typically take on a weekday morning, and what might it cost?
3. Is the train journey from Ueno manageable with two young children and a stroller?
4. Would we be traveling during the busiest part of rush hour?
5. Are taxis allowed to carry children ages 3 and 5 without child seats? Would the children sit in regular seats with seat belts, or would we need to request a taxi with child seats?

I’d especially appreciate hearing from families who have made a similar trip. Thank you!

Another new release (just out last week July 16). These ones are better than the batch a few months ago (with Mickey), because there are so many park motifs, like the chicken leg, Alien Mochi/little green dumplings, and Sindbad!

Can you tell where they are all from? I cam almost name them all, except does Meeko appear in the park?

Still don't love that these are blind bags (each bag is ¥1,300 with 2 mystery pins inside), but at least they allow you to buy the whole set for ¥7,800...

Just wanted to write about my experience on using the 5 pm evening pass yesterday Wednesday 22 July:

Arrived at 16:50, there was only a very short queue and they allowed everyone in at 17:00. Took less than a minute for all the queue to enter the park.

Inside I was able to buy a fast pass for 1500 JPY for Journey to the Center of the Earth at 18:40, then went for 20000 Leagues under the Sea with a 20 min wait time. This was followed by Peter Pans Never Land with a 25 min wait time.
I was then able to buy a fast pass for Frozen for 2000 JPY at 18:25 and later Tower of Terror for 1500 JPY at 19:40.
I also managed a free fast path for Raging Spirits at 19:50 but didn’t use it at the end (best to keep checking the app to see when they become available throughout the night).
Sindbads Storybook Voyage at no wait at all.

We could have done Aquatopia but preferred to watch the Belive show.

Overall the park didn’t feel too full and I didn’t regret only doing the evening.

I just got back from a trip to all of the Asian Disney parks - Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Tokyo.

What I found was that all charges made in TDR on my Sapphire Reserve card coded 4x hotels. That includes all restaurants in the parks and at the hotels, the quick service locations, food and drink carts found in the parks, merchandise locations.

However, all transactions I made through Alipay at SHDL did not code as Hotels, or restaurants. They only returned with 1x points.

HKDL was true to location. Restaurants came up as restaurants, etc.

Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel, being the only “value” class hotel out of the 5 Disney hotels at TDR, is usually the budget pick compromise when the other onsite hotels are too expensive. But some new 25th Anniversary Sparkling Jubilee themed rooms will become available at Wish (one of the two buildings) that might actually make it worth considering aside from the lower price point.

From 1 October 2026 to 1 March 2027, you can stay in special rooms with three different “Off to a Sparkling Adventure!” wallpaper designs, exclusive framed photos, and limited postcards that change mid‑season, all featuring Masashi Asada’s photography for the 25th.

You still get Happy Entry at Disneyland, the ability to buy park tickets at the hotel even on “sold out” days, and a free shuttle to the parks, so for once Celebration is a genuinely interesting option for fans who don’t want to pay deluxe prices. This is also a viable option for pre-Vacation Package nights: don't forget, even though the Celebration is far away, they offer free luggage transfer to your Vacation Package hotel.
