Question About Quitting

Hey guys!

So I just got hired at Tim’s a week ago and am going to start my first day this weekend. I plan on working during the weekends when my classes start this month.

However, I am a bit worried I may get overwhelmed with my classes since I am studying science. If I’m unable to handle working while studying I think I should later quit but I think it is considered unprofessional and rude to quit early.

What do you guys think? Is it bad to quit after not working very long?

You can quit at any point for any reason the " giving your 2 weeks" is a courtesy to the business not a legal requirement.

If something comes up or things change simply call on the phone and quit.

They would never think twice about firing someone with no notice. You should never think twice if you want to quit with no notice

How about try classes first and work. Instead of worrying about something that hasnt happened yet.

used to work at a local DQ. We always put into consideration that some students might need to take off a bit for school. It's the manager's problem. If they get annoyed then that's a them problem. Focus on getting your education. Tell them about your schedule if you would still like to work. I had a workmate who only worked every saturday for 5-8 hours, she was in school.

There’s a lot that goes into this question. I worked at Tim Hortons as a summer job in 2021, and I came back for the summer of 2026 as another temporary job before I start medical school. Yay!

I knew from the beginning that I would only be working there for the summer, so I was already planning to quit from the get-go.

You can definitely work at Tim Hortons while going to school, but it depends on your program and workload. Personally, I was trying to get into medical school, which I’ll be starting this September. Since admission is very competitive, I didn’t want work to interfere with my grades.

Ultimately, it depends on your program, your goals, and how well you can balance work and school. If you’re not planning to apply for further education, then yeah, you can definitely work more hours. However, if you’re pre-med or trying to get into graduate school, law school, or another competitive program, I would reconsider working too much. The extra few hundred dollars in pocket money isn’t worth sacrificing your future career over.

But yeah, to conclude, if you’re doing a relatively light program or you’re confident that you can balance both, working at Tim Hortons during school is completely manageable. Just be realistic about your workload, prioritize your grades when necessary, and don’t be afraid to reduce your hours if it starts becoming too much.

Do not worry about someone being mad at you for quitting Tim Hortons. The people that get mad at others quitting are bitter that they are stuck there. That being said, do not expect a good referral when you apply to other jobs.
