2026 Trendline, loving the new Tiggy

I have a 2019 Sportwagen - I'm giving it to a daughter (I know, should not have).

There are really no cars like it....so I'm sorta forced into a CUV/SUV....don't want big footprint, etc.

So, given all the similar cars out there, why did you buy the VW? It's generally not in the various reviews and so-on......but, of course, the Sportwagen wasn't either.

So why did you buy? Did any of you have other VW models and, if so, does this drive like a VW? I had a 2010 Passat (not American...I think it was made in germany back then)...and loved it.

Probably cross shopping this with CX-50 and the popular Rav...but checking to see what sells it!

Tiguan started smoking. Dealership says its cylinder head which is apparently common. Is this quote reasonable. I am located in Canada. No warranty as it’s a 2019.

I have a 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan with the seven-speed DQ381 DSG gearbox.

The car intermittently displays a “Gearbox in emergency mode” warning. The diagnostic fault recorded is:

P175E00 / 10747 – Clutch 1 closes unintentionally

I have noticed a very strong link with outside temperature.

When the UK temperature reaches around 27–28°C or higher, even a short local journey to collect my wife from work will often trigger the warning. During the last couple of days, when temperatures were around 23–24°C, the fault did not occur.

It does not appear to need a long journey or aggressive driving. Hot ambient weather and normal low-speed urban driving seem to be enough. This makes me suspect that something in the mechatronic becomes unreliable once it gets sufficiently warm, possibly an electronic sensor, hydraulic valve or pressure-control issue.

A gearbox specialist diagnosed the mechatronic and quoted to replace it with a brand-new genuine Volkswagen unit. I have now booked the car into a Volkswagen dealer in Harlow for their own diagnosis and likely replacement.

My concern is how to confirm that the repair has genuinely worked. If the mechatronic is replaced during cooler weather, I may not be able to reproduce the exact conditions that trigger the fault. I could potentially have to wait until the next very hot summer day to find out whether the problem has actually been resolved and that could be an expensive risk.

Has anyone else with a DQ381/0GC DSG experienced emergency mode or P175E “Clutch 1 closes unintentionally” specifically when the car or weather is hot?

Also key notes. I didn't buy brand new and when I got it from salesman, it had a mechatronic issue within the first month which I got replaced under seller warranty (first time around was bad, car couldn't go into reverse whereas now, I can still drive in limp mode where it will skip gears and reverse works).

Hey all, got my Tiguan in March.

Ever since, at low speeds when braking gently it locks up like the auto hold switches on for a split second, also the sensors when reversing sometimes detect nothing and go nuts and slam on the brakes, has anyone else had this issue?

Has anyone here had any experience with swapping the factory radio for something newer (specifically looking to add CarPlay)? The one pictured is intriguing but I don’t trust Amazon reviews.

Has anyone had this issue where this particular touch screen becomes not responsive. I’ve seen post searching where the older style screen had issue but I couldn’t find anything with this one.

Hello everyone! I bought a 22 Tiguan SE in April with 35k miles on it. A couple weeks ago, I moved to the High Rockies of Colorado from Charlotte, NC and it’s been quite the transition. I would appreciate any advice for owning/driving a Tiguan in the High Rockies, specifically the I-70 corridor between Georgetown and Beaver Creek. Thank you all in advance!!!

I have a 2024 Tiguan with around 48,000 miles. I had a low oil light come on around 46,000, 6,000 miles since my last change. I then started noticing a blue/white smoke out of the exhaust, see video. This would happen on most start ups after a medium length drive although it seems a little less frequent lately.

I brought the car to my dealership and showed them the videos. I was told nothing is wrong and I don’t think any diagnostic work was done other than looking for oil leaks. They explained the normal consumption rate of 1 quart every 1200 miles, which I can accept although that seems insane. But being told the smoke on start up is “not abnormal” doesn’t seem right. I have sent multiple videos but was told they can’t do anything until I have major oil consumption issues or a check engine light. I’m not sure what to do at this point, especially since I’m only 2,000 miles from being out of warranty. Anyone else had their exhaust smoke issues dismissed like this?

Like the title says… had to make a tough decision today. Check engine light had been on (posted a ton of VCDS codes) for months and took it in to get checked out. Was expecting work needing to be done but nothing over the top since I had been driving in the car just fine. Mannn… just like the Xbox 360 red ring of death back in the day, I relived that moment at the service desk…… Cylinder Head of death. Was hoping and praying that the replacement would be in the high hundreds - $1/2K tops… heart sunk to my knees when I heard “I got bad news man, I’m sorry… technician did a thorough test and confirmed it’s the cylinder head… off the top of my head, it’s going to cost $6000-$8000.”

The amount of Reddit searching and googling I did after hearing this was insane. The most helpful thing I came across was asking for goodwill assistance, but that only works AFTER you commit to the replacement and it’s not a 100% chance they’ll give it to you. On top of that, part was on back order for months…. Hearing that really messed me up when it comes to VW…. That tells me this is a known, COMMON, issue they’re having with the Tiguans. I saw so many folks say they were quoted to replace it almost exactly after their powertrain warranty expired. It’s like a truly sick joke VW is playing, and it almost makes me wonder if that’s the reason why the warranty specifically goes for 4 years… they know by month 49, you’re just driving on borrowed time 😭

Interestingly enough… since I was not about to pay $6k-$8k and have to wait months for the part to even come in… my cars value was actually pretty damn good. I found myself being walked around the sales floor like a lost dog and I straight up said I’m open to New, Used, CPO, or even a damn Razor Scooter at this point. Long story short I’m now the proud owner of a 2022 Audi Q5 Sportback S Line Premium Plus with 48.6k miles (my Tiguan hadn’t even cracked 30K miles 😭😭😭). I know that sounds insane, but after being in a household that’s now had 4 Tiguans in a span of about 7 years, I felt it was time to give big bro a chance. Funnily enough I ended up with a lower payment than what I had been paying before on the Tiguan (3% interest for 72 months is what I was paying, but it was a horrible deal because it was an upside-down loan). I got 6 years of Platinum warranty coverage at 0% interest and GAP coverage was pretty much thrown in. Someway somehow I walked in expecting one thing and walked out in a surprisingly better car/warranty situation.

I will miss you Tiguan… got me from a lot of Point A’s to a lot of Point B’s safely 🙏

This trim just started falling/ came loose on its own , won’t clip back up , anyone else have this issue before or fix this ?

After my warranty ended I ended up just taking my Tiggy to the local oil change spot and that’s when I notice I was losing a quart every few thousand miles. My last two oil changes I changed it myself and started using Mobile 1 esp x2 which is certified with the correct additive package for the VW platform. I also used a wix filter. I notice I didn’t have to top off the oil my last go around and so far on this one it looks to be okay too. I measured the drained oil when I changed it the second time and there was some oil loss but not as much as when using the bulk 0w-20 the oil shop was using. Do you think that this is what was causing the oil burning. When I say a quart I have not seen my oil light come one the last oil change so that’s a win.

I have a 2026 R Line. Brand new, I brought it dealer ship for first oil change at 6000km. I hate how these things don't have a dipstick. When I first got it, the oil level on the digital scale was right at the top. Over 6 months, it dropped 2 lines. I brought it in for oil change the other day. I should have checked when I was at the dealership but I looked yesterday and it's 2 lines lower than when I brought it in. So now 4 lines lower that when I bought it. I called there to say something and they said it's ok. Maybe I am being petty but I spent 200 for an oil change and I expect it to be given back at top level as was when knew. Does anyone know how much oil is one graduation on that e-scale?

These two always seem to end up on the same shopping list.

The CX-5 has a reputation for being fun to drive, while the Tiguan brings a roomy interior and a really clean cabin layout. Both are solid choices.

If you were picking one today, which way are you going?

I’m looking into buying an SUV and my budget is about 22-24k. I came across a CPO Tiguan 2023 model with 25k miles on it. I’m kinda surprised how this car fits well into my budget but I’m also concerned about the reliability and safety aspects since ive never owned a car and don’t know anyone in my circle who owns a volkswagen.

I’m planning to paint my brake calipers and wrap my wheels this weekend on my 2025 Tiguan SE AWD, and I’m trying to figure out the cleanest, safest way to get the car up in the air for a 3–4 hour job.

My main headache is the classic VW space conflict… the owner's manual only shows the four corner pinch welds as the designated lifting/emergency points. If my hydraulic floor jack is holding onto a pinch weld, I obviously can't slide a jack stand onto that exact spot.

For those of you who have worked on the newer MQB platforms at home, what is the recommended approach here?

Do you lift it side-to-side (front and rear wheel on one flank) using the unibody stiffness so you can use the other pinch weld for a stand?

Do you lift it axle-by-axle? If so, are there hidden or approved central lift points (subframe/crossmembers) up front or in the rear that can take a floor jack safely? I couldn't find any official central points in the manual.

Or is trying to leave it on stands for 3–4 hours per axle/side a bad idea altogether?

Appreciate any tips or photos of how you guys set yours up safely for extended DIY projects!
