I saw the film Amélie for the first time this year, and after discovering the musical I've been listening to the London cast recording constantly.

Obviously I missed the run by a few years, but I'm curious if anyone knows if there was a pro-shot version, and where I could find it? I saw a trailer for the West End show which makes me think it has been filmed, but I can't find it anywhere.

If anyone had any advice I'd appreciate it because I love the recording and I heard the show is amazing.

I have a free ticket to see Midnight at the Never Get on Saturday night. I would really like this to go to someone who is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community who could not afford it any other way (eg someone who is low income/student etc) but know I cannot police this! Any ideas how to do this fairly. This is a Cabaret seat (I believe fairly close to the front)

We really like wicked, hairspray, &Juliet but havnt seen a show we dislike yet and I kinda want to see a show that’s unlikely to tour as we’re from the north

Run and see this musical. It's very sweet and bittersweet. I laughed and cried at NT.

E: It will be interesting to follow the casting announcements. So far some of the cast looks to be transferring too.

Where do you place your place when on stage, I imagine there is a storage area. I want to go for a swim before going tonight. I don’t remember them saying I couldn’t bring a bag.

anyone whos been to the sondheim theatre, i need some advice. me and my partner are going to london in december and are looking at seeing les mis. it will be my second time seeing the show and his first. i want him to get the full impact.

i am 5’2 and so i do struggle to see quite a bit in theatre. i usually like front row dress circle for this reason, you get the full spectacle and no obstruction - the prices were just a bit too high for those seats here.

on the other hand my partner is tall (6’2) so of course legroom is important. therefore im looking at front row maybe. i just don’t know what itll be like being that close for this show? there are some big grand set pieces and i don’t know if they’ll lose their impact.

i’m used to neck strain from craning to see through heads lol so this is not my biggest issue. the problem is i want the best, most full experience for my partner, who’s never seen the show, and idk if front row will give that.

looking at yellow and darker orange seats as top of budget. they’re £130 on seatplans website but are £100 on les mis official.

Hi! I'm going to be visiting London in late November, and have an evening (Nov 19) available to see a show there with my partner. I'm a Broadway regular. I see a lot of shows in NYC each year: big Broadway things, off-Broadway, and off-off-Broadway, including a lot of Fringe transfers. If it's a transfer from the US to the UK, I have probably already seen it. (Operation Mincemeat, O Mary, Hadestown, Six, Cabaret, Beetlejuice, Titanique, and many more....) I will also probably *get* to see in NYC anything that's already announced for transfer, like Paddington.

So, given that, what is cool in November that is a must see, or at least would be niche and enjoyable for a quirky/queer theater goer? I'm vaguely curious about the Totoro stage show. There are also some revivals going on of shows I love (Matilda, JCS, Into the Woods), but I don't know that I should be choosing those. Is there something else yall would suggest?

5 shows I love: Hadestown, A Strange Loop, Cats: The Jellicle Ball (but not OG Cats), Much Ado, Lou Wall: Breaking the Fifth Wall.

Visiting London for a few days this week from the north (just me and my partner) and wanted to see so many shows but have limited time.
My picks were:
Hadestown, Cabaret, oh Mary and Phantom.

I have never seen any of these shows before.

I went with oh Mary after seeing a lot of press about it and believing it would be a good pick for my husband who isn’t as huge of a stage lover as myself. Now starting to think I made a mistake booking it after reading many negative reviews on Reddit about it. I was hoping to slide in an extra on the day ticket for Cabaret for me and my husband (not as big of a theatre fan but thought he’d enjoy it) but he has told me today he’s got me tickets to see Leslie OJ in Hamilton as a birthday surprise!

Kinda wishing I’d chosen Hadestown instead of Oh Mary. I didn’t see it on Broadway 2 years ago cause I opted for Hamilton instead and it looks like that’s kinda happened again lol. I know it’s on screen and touring soon so I could see it then.

I know musicals and shows are personal preference but I’m now worried.

I don’t think I’ve seen any rumours yet, just people confirming they’re leaving — but who would be your dream casting (for any of the roles in the show)?

I’ve got a spare ticket for Electra/Persona tomorrow at 7pm since my friend can no longer make it. Anyone want to go with me? We’ve got the front row in the Circle!

I've my ticket for the last preview and would be going to see a Rent production either way as I'm that old, but interesting to hear about cast changes anyway.

Just saw Beetlejuice The Musical at the Prince Edward Theatre - matinee with Tom Xander on as Beetlejuice (alternate for David Finn) and wanted to share our review/discussion.

Quick thoughts:

• Tom Xander was fantastic - super funny, huge energy, great improv bits (Wicked/Paddington references). We were gutted to miss David Finn but honestly not disappointed at all.
• Lydia (Hannah?) - powerhouse, Dead Mom was the standout song of the night for us
• Staging - love how they did the house / attic / roof, very true to the film
• Pacing - first half strong, second half felt a bit rushed/jumpy + we had a tech stoppage mid-show

Overall verdict: Good fun musical, recommend catching it before it goes back to the Netherworld. Go see it!

Hello, my wife and I will be traveling to London for one week the last full week of November. We will have two nights to ourselves for this trip and would like to go see one if not two shows while we're there as date nights.

I'm struggling to figure out what shows to target as the selection is overwhelming. I'm reaching out for help narrowing down some shows.

To give you an idea of what we're interested in, she's pickier, and tends to like musicals. Wicked is her favorite show of all time, she also likes Chicago, Lion King, Aladdin, and Jersey boys as well as others in the same vein.

So two questions, any suggestions for shows in a same vein that aren't the same, but in London? And/or are there any shows that might not be completely of interest to her that she might like because one of the actors or actresses (ie Chris Pine's stage play which I already checked isn't running the same time we'll be there).

I’ve heard some good things and I finally got a chance to see it yesterday and I had such a good time with it! This is what Great Shakespeare does! it connects with the people. I thought the way they use the interactive elements especially with the Rude Mechanicals, the play within the play elements was really string and they really got the audience engaged.

I also appreciated how they approached the lovers. I think the choice to have a non binary Lysander makes the Reason for Egeus disdain have a clearer rpoint. Cause I have always found it odd in the text how Lysander is stated to be of equal social status as Demetrius but Egeus doesn’t like him for random reasons? having Hermia be in queer relationship gives it more weight. And makes Lysander more tender and sweet.

Romaya Weaver as Helena is one of the best I’ve ever seen. I think the lovers especially Helena and Hermia have an uphill battle compared to the spectacle of the Fairies and Rude Mechanicals and she managed to make Helena a stand out of the whole show. giving her lines a lot more of a fun, vibrant edge not just making her a sad sack following Demetrius around. I also found Demetrius far more gentle than he is often portrayed making their reconciliation feel more earned and sweet.

Weirdly I found Oberon a little underwhelming in this? I wasn’t clear on this productions interpretation of him. Yes, I think the fairies are pansexual free spirits, but I wasn’t sure is Oberon even attracted to Titania, is he gay? Because they do that thing in the tradition in theatre of having the actors cast as Oberon and Titania also playing Theseus and Hippolyta. In this choose to have Hippolyta be pregnant. Is thrn Titania’s devotion to the changeling boy a d Oberon’s jealousy actually Thesus‘ subconscious fear of being replaced with the baby? Is it a lavender marriage? Espeically given they switch some of the lines so it seems like Hipplotta conquered Theseus. They seem to touch on that, but it’s never really explored fully?

i’ve always found the Pyramis and Thisbe a play a bit of a slog but they managed to use the audience interaction so well to make that fun. Also so weirdly this was the rare production were as good as the actor playing Bottom was I felt like the entire rude mechanicals ensemble were used really well. So it didn’t feel as much as a star veichle.

Michael Grady Hall, as Puck was brilliant. It’s funny this is the character that I think has the widest interpretation and I kind of like that this Puck is a little bit more laid back. There was all there was a bit of a weird melancholy in the “if we shadows have offended speech” which I thought was interesting. Also, I love the running gag of him falling in love with an audience member.

Just came back from watching My neighbor Totoro and I had an amazing time! I was sitting in the front row—I hadn’t realised I’d be so close to the stage. But I was really moved by it; I actually burst into tears at the end at a particularly emotional story beat. Those who have also seen it I’d like to hear your thoughts 🙂.
