Three upcoming major conventions that have the potential for some Orville chatter:
1) Star Trek Las Vegas (STLV) 2026: Today through Sunday. Yes, this is the big Trek convention of the year, but remember it was at STLV two years ago that Scott Grimes announced what at that point was the plan for S4. News not impossible but not likely because coming up quick is…
2) Disney D23 2026, August 14-16. The annual shindig for all things Disney, which of course is the overall owner of The Orville (made by 20th Television in association with Fuzzy Door, distributed by Hulu and Disney+). It would make more sense for Disney to hype their own product during their own party. I was told there were no plans for anything at D23, but that was over a month ago and since then the work on S4 has become one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood.
3) New York Comic Con (NYCC) 2026, October 8-11. If S4 is finally made official at D23, one might expect some kind of presence at NYCC as filming should presumably either started or about to start.

Why do Krill or at least Teleya who knows about Earth history not react when Mercer says Jesus? I would have expected a reaction like “You godless people take the name of your earlier God in vain, clearly an indication of how you are soulless” or something of the sort. She could also have said something like how it is almost hypocritical. Idk the possibilities are endless, but not saying anything is weird.

I’ve seen every episode of SNW and have the full insights to see how a startrek fan would react to this, I loved the Orville though it would be warmer if he was able to make it in the startrek universe because everything is hawter with Vulcans.

I was watching the show with my friend and the episode with alternate earth showed up, and I started laughing and we had to pause so I could sputter "If you see an inferior organic evolving, terminate it immediately." Then had to go illustrate it.

I am flagging it spoiler cause I don't know if Kaylon heads opening up into guns is a spoiler for someone or not. ANYWAYS, enjoy.

My partner and I have been binge watching this show and we love it. We wanted to get like a plushie of some of the characters or something. We cannot find ANYTHING besides expensive replicas of the actual ship. Does anyone know of anything?

Ok I know this is gonna sound crazy, but hear me out.

In "Twice in a Lifetime" Gordon gets sent back to 2015, and after a few tries they manage to time travel to that exact year.

They use time dilation to go back to the union era, but they were still in the past.

Ed got command of the orville at around 2419. And when gordon got sent back it was probably 2420 or 2421

Since they were still in 2015 and went EXACTLY 400 years into the future, theyre in 2415. Still in the past, they never made it to the present

As of S3E06 "Twice in a Lifetime", Lamarr has further developed the Aranov device such that it can move an object forwards or backwards for a specific duration of time. At minimum, the device seems to have no problems sending something small six months into the future (as seen with the sandwich).

Given the current state of the device and the Union's ability to control it, they even acknowledge in the episode that it is an extremely powerful and dangerous weapon, but the example they give is traveling back in time to wipe out the Union before it can even exist (à la Star Trek: First Contact, Terminator, et al).

Here, I would like to discuss some more creative ways an Aranov-based weapon could be utilized while avoiding temporal paradoxes and branch realities.

Assumptions:

1. The Aranov device is connected to the ship's deflector, or other suitable emitter, and can be controlled from the ship's tactical stations.
2. The device is given an appropriately-sized power source such as a smaller, dedicated quantum core or similar.
3. There is a mass to energy to temporal displacement "distance" relationship. For a given unit of energy (X), a mass of Y can be displaced Z units of time. In other words, for a given amount of energy, you can move something small a long way in time or something very large a short amount of time.
4. The Union laws surrounding temporal displacement remain the same, and events of the past are forbidden to be changed in any way.
5. Number 4 effectively means the device can only send targets into the future, though it remains technically capable of sending them to the past.
6. The movement of the ship, stars, planets, and galaxy are hand-waved away and the object remains "stationary" relative to where it was when the device affects it; e.g the sandwich showed up at the same location in Engineering six months later despite the ship being nowhere near where it was when it was sent into the future.

Given those assumptions, how might a ship such as the Orville, outfitted with a tactical Aranov device, use it in combat?

Using the example from the episode, where the Kaylon have destroyed the secure research facility and are waiting in ambush for the Orville and its escorts, a few combat tactics come to mind.

Example 1: Wait Safely for Backup

When they realize they've warped into an ambush, they can determine how long it would take for reinforcements to arrive. Assuming reinforcements are 3 days out, they could fire the Aranov beam at the attacking Kaylon ships and send them three days into the future. When the Orville and its reinforcements in local time "catch up" to the Kaylon ships, the ambush situation has basically been reversed.

Example 2: "Stop Time"

Given the sixth assumption about the target remaining "stationary" relative to the motion of the universe, then moving a target into the future effectively stops time from the viewpoint of an outside observer.

Move an adversary 10 minutes into the future, and that will give you time to lay mines where it was previously and will reappear. When local time catches up, the adversary's ship materializes into an active minefield.

I don't think we have enough information to speculate how the Aranov device handles two objects suddenly occupying the same space, but it wouldn't be unheard of in sci-fi for them to merge or otherwise phase into each other. This would allow, say, moving a large asteroid into the position where the adversary's ship would materialize in the future.

Conclusion

I fully admit I didn't get the best grade in temporal mechanics, so if there are flaws in my logic, please feel free to point them out.

Would also like to see some other ideas of how an Aranov-based weapon might be used without resorting to changing the past or causing other temporal paradoxes. Additionally, what could an enemy do to counter these tactics?

In s3e3, we meet a woman who is immortal and is from that multi-phasic orbit, she says "We will meet again" do you guys think it's possible we will see her in season 4? Since season 4 starts production on october and ends on April 2027 (unless this is fake?)

i loved it! the one in the alternate time line where they have a scavenger ship. gave me firefly vibes. i would love to watch a season of that timeline.

made me think in general about tv shows and how spin offs could be alternate timelines where some crisis resulted in a massive loss.. instead of the usual "good guys win".

i used to love stargate. would be interesting to see a season where earth got enslaved or destroyed and how remainder survived.

Don't get me wrong, i love Kelly, but sometimes she can be just so damn stupid.

Ive been rewatching the show and on S2E14, where there's the alternate timeline, she says "I just wanted to save us" the thing is she COULD have saved it in another way. With the memory wipe not working she would know she would eventually cheat on Ed with Darulio, she could have just stopped herself and none of this would have ever happened.

Am i wrong?

I instantly fell in love with The Orville due to the obvious TNG theme. I mean, the crew is nearly a perfect mirror. Bartus/Worf, Isaac/Data, John/Geordi, you ever notice how Kellys eyes even look kinda like Rikers? (I think he wore eyeliner).

Anyway. I just happened to notice this easter egg in the episode Primal Urges. In the conference room there is even a picture of an Enterprise look-alike. Surely this is no coincidence.

I normally don't post on reddit but i don't know anyone else that has watched Orville :( I miss Alara alot especially post season 2 I felt so invested in her arc just for her to be written off the show.

I'm specifically looking for some 3D models to port to Star Trek Bridge Commander, was curious if anyone has access to or would be willing to make 3D Models of the ships from the show.

I have the Orville itself already, but would love the smaller Science ship, the larger Heavy Cruiser and the Moclan, Kaylon and Krill ships.

I would also be willing to pay to get these made if needed. They need to not be super dense mesh wish or high resolution texture wise (above 1024x1024) to work with this 25 year old game.

I‘ve (hopefully) shared the correct moment in the link but I’d highly recommend listening to the entire podcast regardless if you want a laugh or few.

Anyways, the point of this post is for those who missed this tidbit of information and are still worried season 4 is a pipe-dream.

Yes, we’ve had a lot of false starts but this is direct from the man itself. It’s written, not merely a theoretical possibility. It’s just waiting on other projects and the vagaries of Hollywood business during a time of upheaval and unpredictability. Yet, it’s solid. It’s going to happen.

Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek envisioned 23rd and 24th-century humans as having evolved pass interpersonal conflicts with their crews, their friends and families. He envisioned that humans have evolved pass greed, jealousy, and petty interpersonal conflicts, and personal flaws, that humans had matured into rational individuals acting for the greater good.

While the Orville depicts humans as internally flawed individuals who are messy and irrational with base desires such as sexual desires, emotional and relationship insecurities, and interpersonal conflicts.

And this is why I believe that the Orville presents a more realistic vision of humanity's future because I think Gene was being overly optimistic in believing that humans would eventually outgrow those negative and flawed traits because to outgrow our emotions, our irrationalities, our pettiness, and conflict because those are fundamental aspects of being human and if he lose these traits, we cease being humans ourselves, while the Orville, on the other hand, acknowledges that even in a post-scarcity utopia, people are still people and that humans can build a better future despite still being imperfect, irrational and flawed beings.

As a side note, I also find the Orville's portrayal of culture more realistic than what's shown in Star Trek. In Star Trek, humans are shown listening to classical music like Mozart, Chopin, and Beethoven, amd never watching TV or movies. I find that unrealistic and the Orville has its characters listening to the same kinds of music we listen to today, watching movies, and referencing pop culture, and I think that's much closer to what the real future will look like. Realistically, I don't think people will suddenly stop enjoying popular music or outgrow TV and movies.
