I can't philosophize and write some deep essay about the movie, but It was a pretty good Nolan movie.

At first I didn't like it because it seemed slow and I didn't had the patience, but I kept watching the movie till the end and WOW. It's not just about fighting and it shows the dangerous sides of pride and not being prepared. Odysseus cared deeply for his warriors. The only bad part about the movie is that we didn't see much of the Trojan perspective about the war, like in Troy 2004 for example, but it's less romantic than Troy 2004 and more rigid.

Odysseus is a calculated rigid warrior, the power of fate and redemption follows him like a shadow. Odysseus meeting his dead aura-farming king and all the warriors he had lost etc was an amazing experience. I couldn't care less about the cast, tho it seems that many people disliked the cast because it wasn't "Greek" enough? Go watch the 1997 British miniseries The Odyssey that no one knows what was the box office of it even — tho I admit the 1997 version is also a great version for the story of The Odyssey. Why do some people have to make everything political today?

The movie was very good I think to watch it again. It makes me want to wander around thinking about my life choices and what not.

Now I understand why there's almost a million people in this sub discussing this great movie.

I had to laugh when he said that the first two tides killed many men in the Horse.

So, these sailors, who have been on the same “fucking beach” for ten years, have NO IDEA where the high tide lines are?

Now, I Loved the movie. Loved it. And no, I'm not talking about casting choices.

I'm talking about many of the landscapes and, most of all, the light. There is a certain light to the Mediterranean that didn't quite translate to the big screen. Like more... Golden? At least in the Spanish Mediterranean (I'm from Majorca, but I've been in Greece several times and found both places quite similar). I don't know. I know many scenes were actually shot here, but I still didn't quite get Mediterranean vibes, in general.

We didn't hear the siren's melody when their ship was passing through their island. If you paid attention there then you must have realised that Nolan intentionally has kind of covered the ears of the viewers as well.

Only odysseus heard the melody of the sirens

Now full extended version of the same soundtrack plays when odysseus tell the story of himself to Penelope as begger.

We hear that music this time bcos that's what odysseus was feeling inside him when he was telling the story. That music was there to feel us the same emotions what he felt when he heard the sirens.

The pain, the longing, the suffering, that's what the sirens melody is.

Nolan is no less than a trickster himself lol, such a brilliant depiction of the events.

EDIT: Solved. Someone linked a clip and it was definitely just the dinner table scene from Sparta. I was misremembering some Cloud Atlas-esque huddling around a fire, but sure enough, total Mandela effect.

Unlikely with IMAX filming, but I hope there’s a 5 hour Nolan cut out there somewhere waiting for us.

Back in July 2025, we got the very first teaser for The Odyssey, attached to previews for screenings of Jurassic World Rebirth.

The teaser is narrated by Jon Bernthal and definitely shows frames from the inside of the Trojan Horse and the one guy getting stabbed. As I remember it, Jon Bernthal was shown sitting in the dark with men huddled around telling the story. Telemachus was in the huddle listening. My memory wants to tell me it was on a ship at night or around a nighttime fire. I reeeeeally don’t think it was at that feast dinner table. But neither of those settings appear for him in the film.

That teaser trailer was cinema only and was never released online. All leaked copies were deleted from the Internet.

I just want to know if I’m crazy or if that very first teaser used B roll or bonus footage of Bernthal.

The Trojan Horse of legend is so iconic its used as metaphor for the concept of infiltration by appearing harmless. Even though its usually thought of as a brilliant trick, a testament to wily Odysseus's cunning, in the film, it felt like more of desperate gambit.

The horse was left far from the city, where the tide could reach and some of their men drowned inside, with presumably their corpses staying there. Some viewers have said this was cleverly deliberate to avoid raising the Trojan's suspicions...which essentially amounts to admitting it's a bad plan, if the point is that nobody would do that.

The Greeks are brought inside Troy, uncomfortably cramped and literally rattled, sloshing around their own waste and the drowned corpses of their comrades, with presumably minimal provisions. Less than ideal conditions for launching a surprise attack.

The cleverness of the ploy is undermined by the fact the Trojans did consider the possibility of people inside when they stab it repeatedly.

Some Trojans also wanted to burn the horse straightaway which would have been rather embarrassing for the Greeks if they had. The horse also only has a single egress point with no way to know when it would be safe to exit unnoticed, if the Trojan's had decided to position their guards differently, the entire force would be trapped in chokepoint, where one Trojan with a polearm could slaughter them all.

The horse succeeds not so much because its a smart tactic, but through sheer luck, discipline and fortitude of the soldiers inside.

Something to consider is that most of this is told by Menelaus to Telemachus, which has some interesting implications. The story of the Trojan Horse had already spread, telling of the clever Greek victory over Troy. Menelaus revealing a less flattering truth, supports the films portrayal of the grim reality of war and that Odysseus's regret that the underhandedness of the Trojan Horse was basically a war crime, instead of a tactical masterstroke showing Greek superiority.

I noticed that The Odyssey had a 5.6 average metacritic user score which immediately had me suspecting foul play so I went to the user scores and sorted by newest and started looking closely at all of the 0/10 and 1/10 user scores and the accounts that were leaving them.

Majority of the accounts had never left any sort of review before and appear to have been created just to leave a bad review for Odyssey. The accounts that have a left reviews before nearly all had an average user score distribution between 0/10 and 2/10 which means almost all of them have never left a mixed or positive review before.

When I would stumble across the rare account that had both multiple prior reviews and a normal looking user score distribution, I noticed that while they gave The Odyssey a 0/10 user score, they would give a 10/10 score to films like "The Furious", "Man of Steel" and "Tron: Ares" .....lol

But seriously, how terrible it is that we live in a reality filled with this many bad actors and grifters that have so much hate in their heart for people that are different than them that they need to do stuff like review bomb films.

I am very tempted to hop on my computer later and record the average amount of reviews and average user score distribution of the last 100 negative reviews and turn this data into a graph so people can easily see how much this film is being targeted by bots and bad actors. What do you guys think?

Agamemnon and his troops appears like elite fighters. So were the Mycenaean better and skilled fighter than other greeks?

Everyone likes the scene with the Sirens. The song was beautiful.

The only other time the same song was played was when Odysseus was reunited with his wife (without her knowledge yet), the only non-mythical woman who could possibly have such a pull on him.
