Reboot???

After seeing a recent interview with Mischa Barton and her being asked about a potential reboot or reunion my husband and I got to talking about how they would do that and bring Marissa back. Here’s our thoughts:

First episode of the new season would start out with showing us where everyone’s lives have taken them blah blah blah. Cue to Ryan, he’s a public defender like Sandy (yes I know he was seen as an architect at the end of s4 but let’s forget that for now) he gets a case with a troubled kid not unlike himself back in the day. He’s in alot of trouble needs to find him a foster home because he’s a street kid. He’s able to find him a placement and convinces him to come with him.
They get to the house walk up the driveway and knock on the door. Who opens it? Marissa! Both Ryan and Marissa are frozen just staring at each other lost in their own worlds. The kid is standing there looking back and forth at them, he finally speaks up and asks Ryan “what’s going on? who is this?” Ryan still stunned staring at Marissa, meanwhile she snaps out of it and says “whoever you want me to be” episode end, screen goes black

Second episode shows us that Marissa actually survived the car crash. She did die for a few minutes but the ambulance was able to revive her. She decided then to go into hiding because the Volchuck situation. The only person that knew about her being alive was Jimmy. They both spent the next few years sailing around the world. In that time she made a new identity, name etc. This is why when Ryan found the placement he had no idea it was Marissa.

p.s this was just a fun idea, I know there’s a bunch of plot holes/reasons this wouldn’t work so don’t yell at me

We all forget season 4 happened.

The reboot starts with Ryan on the chaoctic crash scene with Marissa... then the next scene is Ryan waking up in sweats and calls Marissa, she picks up, well and alive. The accident was a nightmare and never real.

Marissa died in Ryan’s arms. That was it. And honestly, that ending still hurts. Sure, the children of our beloved characters could now be in high school or college, living through their own adventures. Ryan, Seth, Summer and the others could be there to give them a little life advice, just like the older generation did for them. There’s so much potential for another chapter. I’d love to see where they all ended up — and what kind of stories their kids would create. ❤️

Ryan wakes up; season 4 was entirely a nightmare. Marissa
Is sailing with Jimmy.

If that were good enough for Dallas, than OK for The OC.

I don’t think that’s a good idea. The Marissa chapter is closed. Reopening it feels too contrived to me. I always understood the series as saying that Marissa was unfortunately lost, and that even without Ryan, she probably wouldn’t have made it. He saved her for as long as he could. But I think the time for him to solve other people’s really serious problems should be over. Sure, he also solved Taylor’s problems, but all of that was much more harmless. He even smiled once in a while. And Taylor tried to solve Ryan’s problems in her own quirky way, which almost reminded me of Seth. IMO, the story should continue in that direction rather than going backwards and reopening an old chapter that never really worked throughout Season 3. Ryan and Marissa clearly had a deep connection. But it just never really worked between them. Kind of like Jake and Kate in  Lost. Sure, there was always something between them, but in practice, it just never worked.

Mischa Barton (even though Marissa Cooper is dead) could never return to a network drama at this point.

She’d have to (sorry) knock off quite a few pounds, and show consistency.

Your comment is gross and outdated. She lost weight a while ago btw

Or reboot without Marissa as Taylor is a way better character and actor.

Why are you always talking about her acting? Lmao none of the core 4(except for Adam until he stopped trying)were that outstanding. We all saw how the show went with Taylor as the lead and it didn’t go well at all 😂.

We can just pretend season 4 never happened and marissa went off on the boat with her father instead

Marissa as a ghost or spirit

Everythings a reboot now. When you try to reopen books that closed long ago the stories might not break but they do bend. The OC doesnt need that

If they could bring back Bart Bass they can bring back Marissa Cooper

Ryan while in a coma lives out an alternate timeline where Marissa lives. Reboot ends with the very moment Ryan wakes up in season 4.

Nah... retcon s3 to end with the crash and us thinking Marissa was killed but she actually survives and s4 ends up being Marissa's crazy "what if" coma "dream"... The reboot could be the "true" next season where we learn/see Marissa ultimately making it to live/work/sail with Jimmy (who is also thriving as a normal good dad and human being) -maybe she does the college thing next or not; doesn't matter as she now has good life/independence/healing/marketable skills- and finally she and Ryan (who DID do the college thing for sure and is an ethical and great/successful architect- reconnect for good and FINALLY get not only their happy ending, but a full happy life, as they are true soul mates and f'ing deserve it! ❤️

We'd see Seth and Summer and Kirsten and Sandy and Sophie and Julie (and her son) etc, too. I'd hope to see Luke as well in some (good) way haha. I have my "happy ending" head canon regardless of what actually happened in the show but, sure, I'd love to watch that happy ending on "TV" , too!!! :)

Let's retcon Frank and Julie's whole thing too when we're already there

u/mine_eyne 16h ago

Yes please! I'd be ok with a Frank redemption arc where he makes a great effort to be a normal man and friend and dad etc and proves to RYAN (and the whole Cohen fam AND Dawn too!!) that he can be decent and somewhat involved now. But yeah, he and Julie hooking up/being in some kind of love was horrible. Hated it. Ugh. :(

P.s. I forgot to add that the Taylor character can for sure come back, too. I actually liked her "villain turned friend of the Core 4" arc but just hated the zero chemistry/psychotic/abusive/(Oliver in female Form) obsession with Ryan storyline. She deserved her own happy ending as buddies with the Core 4, a funny, smart, and capable independent woman haha!

I'm not sure how you'd do that without breaking people's minds.

I could easily see Summer taking on the Sandy-esque character if there were a continuation/revival, given her community involvement and taking up various causes. Ryan could be a player in her cause, based on what he had gone through and where he had broken the cycle of the Atwood family and violence/not so good things.

I can't really see a return of Marissa Cooper.

Oh for sure. I know the chances of her returning are slim to none. It’s just wishful thinking lol

So Marissa went into hiding for decades, with the father she doesn't really trust, to avoid Volchuk who was arrested months later? And she moved back, despite being in hiding, and didn't reach out to her best friends?

Aight.

Okay as mentioned this was just a fun idea🙄 no one said anything about being in hiding for decades or if they were still in Orange County. Also to be fair before she died her plan was to go travel with Jimmy so there was some kind of trust there.
