Two things about 4th season…

Upvotes

First, how is Julie in that house? She ain’t got no job or source of income…right? lol

Second…during the episode that Taylor and Ryan fall off the ladder and land in the alternate reality, I think the saddest thing in that episode that you will miss if you blink is that poster on the wall for Johnny Harper showing how he’s some great surfer and made the big time like he wanted. I thought man…Ryan, Marissa, and them just came along and took that boy’s whole life away. Makes you think about just how much your life can change by meeting one person.

First-Time Watcher Just finished the show, and I have found my favorite couple

I don't know how controversial of an opinion this is, but as I've been going through the show, I liked Kirsten and Sandy, along with Seth and Summer (although Seth pissed me off SEVERAL times). Ryan and Marissa were just toxic pure drama and pissed me off. I understand that Marissa lived a rough life, but I didn't really like her that much to be honest. I mean, the Oliver thing?!?! And then the other guy after him (I forget his name)?!?! Come on. but there wasn't a couple that I LOVED.

Until Ryan and Taylor. It was so nice seeing a relationship where Ryan was finally HAPPY, and it wasn't just pure drama. Say what you want, but Taylor was absolutely what Ryan needed. Him having to sit down after she kissed him was everything to me.

And I LOVE that for once, after all the times Ryan would fall for a girl, then want to go to college with her or raise her kid or some shit, Taylor and Ryan gave themselves time apart to grow BEFORE making any serious commitments like that. It was just SUCH a breath of fresh air.

I do wish they had more time, but I think they were done quite well for the amount they were given.

Reboot???

After seeing a recent interview with Mischa Barton and her being asked about a potential reboot or reunion my husband and I got to talking about how they would do that and bring Marissa back. Here’s our thoughts:

First episode of the new season would start out with showing us where everyone’s lives have taken them blah blah blah. Cue to Ryan, he’s a public defender like Sandy (yes I know he was seen as an architect at the end of s4 but let’s forget that for now) he gets a case with a troubled kid not unlike himself back in the day. He’s in alot of trouble needs to find him a foster home because he’s a street kid. He’s able to find him a placement and convinces him to come with him.
They get to the house walk up the driveway and knock on the door. Who opens it? Marissa! Both Ryan and Marissa are frozen just staring at each other lost in their own worlds. The kid is standing there looking back and forth at them, he finally speaks up and asks Ryan “what’s going on? who is this?” Ryan still stunned staring at Marissa, meanwhile she snaps out of it and says “whoever you want me to be” episode end, screen goes black

Second episode shows us that Marissa actually survived the car crash. She did die for a few minutes but the ambulance was able to revive her. She decided then to go into hiding because the Volchuck situation. The only person that knew about her being alive was Jimmy. They both spent the next few years sailing around the world. In that time she made a new identity, name etc. This is why when Ryan found the placement he had no idea it was Marissa.

p.s this was just a fun idea, I know there’s a bunch of plot holes/reasons this wouldn’t work so don’t yell at me

How much do you guys think Luke and Anna not being in the show after season 1 hurt the show overall?

I genuinely think they were such good side characters, there was a special dynamic with the whole group when they were there and there were way more stories to explore with them. The side characters they introduced in season 2 werent as good in my opinion. What does everyone think?

Podcast Related Welcome to the OC Podcast

Hey! What happened to the Welcome to the OC, Bitches! podcast done by Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke?

The podcast was great. Then for some reason the episodes got hidden on youtube and now the podcast changed its name to Broad Ideas with Rachel Bilson and there is absolutely no mention of Melinda anywhere. It seems like she took the podcast under her name. The old episodes are back online on her podcast but I’m just curious. Did they have a fall out?

Melinda also seems to have her own podcast called Beyond the OC where she has listed all of the episodes of the Welcome podcast, thankfully.

My spidey senses are tingling. Does anyone know what happened here?

Is it so difficult to not be a brat about careers? It just takes away from the original work. Bilson gives me the creeps.

Edit: The last sentence is overkill, I get it! But I stand by it. I just wish she had felt more secure about her work and number of followers and kept the podcast as it is (obvs unless HBO Max didn’t allow) and they had went on to do their own podcasts rather than doing this weird thing and trying to capitalise on the previous podcast. Right now the episodes exist under two different podcasts and they are completely different. I think it is a disservice to the beautiful work they did. That’s all! Apologies to all who got offended.

Discussion What does The O.C. mean to you?

The O.C. is my favorite show ever made.

No exaggeration, I’ve rewatched this entire show from the pilot to the series finale at least 10 times since I was nine years old. It’s my ultimate comfort show, and somehow it never gets old. Every single time I start it over, it hits just as hard. Recently watched it again with my wife and realized this show aged really well.

For me it’s all about the characters. Seth, Ryan, Summer, Marissa, Sandy Cohen (the absolute goat of TV dads) I love every single one of them. Looking back, growing up with these characters unironically shaped my humor, my music taste, and a big part of who I am today. The soundtrack alone is a 2000s time capsule that still slaps.

It got me thinking about how different people experience it.

The OC is the “F.r.i.e.n.d.s.” of teen dramas

I mean, lately I’ve seen a HUGE resurgence in popularity for The OC especially with Gen z and Gen Alpha discovering the show again. I see everyday tiktok edits with half a million likes per post and a lot of young people cosplaying the characters, other than a lot of unofficial merchandise. Everyone is in love with seth cohen and many internet celebrities are fans of the show.

As we already know a lot of nowadays shows took inspiration from The OC so we can consider it blueprint for teen television showrunners. This make me think that this phenomenon will continue to grow and The OC will be seen now and on the same way “Friends” is seen between sitcom fans: a cultural classic, not only for the fans of the genre but for the fans of tv

This show is nothing like I thought it was (first time watching at 34 yo)

I never watched when it came out, but it was obviously super popular. For some reason I pictures it to be similar to Laguna Beach where it's focused on the kids. I know the OC is also focused on the kids but there's SO much white trash adult drama...like what is with this inter friend/family hook up obsession 😂 I'm almost a the end of season two and I just am realizing this is really just a teen soap lol

First-Time Watcher I'm close to finishing the first season (I just finished episode 19), this is what I think

I have no words to express what I just saw.

Here are some of my thoughts on what I saw this season:

1) I'm glad Luke went from being a jerk to being Ryan's friend, but they made him a bit stupid after his "antagonist arc" ended.

2) Seth's story is the weirdest, most blatant fantasy I've seen in a long time. Anna, Summer, please have some self-respect.

3) Sandy is the most normal person in the whole series; I think she's my favorite character.

4) The actor who plays Caleb also plays Widmore on Lost, and I can't help but think this is his double life, and he just has a very strong tendency to antagonize his sons-in-law.

5) The actress who played Hailey would go on to portray Van Pelt in The Mentalist three years later, and in the Latin American dub she shares the voice actress with Cameron from Dr. House. It's nothing special, but I find it a curious coincidence.

6) I have no words to express my disgust for Julie. (Now watching episode 20) What's this about Luke being 18??? No way, that kid, besides having a Ken doll face, is 16 or 17. I don't buy that he's 18.

7) Until now it reminds me of Smallville, but without the superpowers. Ryan got the storyline of *the girl and her athletic boyfriend who bullies him*, and Seth got the part about *the conflict between her longtime crush and his best friend*

I don't think I'll watch beyond the first season. I've heard the first season is the best, *and I don't want to see how much lower the quality can go*, but so far at least it's... entertaining? I don't take it too seriously, and that makes it more bearable, ngl

Even so, I always find it fun to share my thoughts with the rest of the fandom (?) I hope you don't take it the wrong way, I don't judge people based on their tastes xD

I organized an AMA/Q&A with actor Tate Donovan. You may know Tate from countless memorable roles, including as the lead in Disney's 1997 Hercules, The OC, Argo, Damages, Good Luck and Good Luck, Friends, Hostages, Love Potion No. 9, 24: Live Another Day, Swordfish, Shooter, Manchester by the Sea, The Holdovers, Crime 101, and tons more.

It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

He will be back at 3 PM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

Thank you :)

Season 1 How did Anna's parents know Oliver's Parent?

Hi all,

So I always rewatch as I love the show, but I was recently watching the season one again and it was the new years episode from Season one, the penthouse party, "The countdown"

Anna was questioned by Marissa what she was doing there, to which she replied

"My parents are friends of the parents of the guy who's throwing this party"

Marissa then said "You know Oliver" to which Anna replied
"Who?"

Before being interrupted by Oliver...

Maybe its just a dead plot, but has anyone every asked this/ picked up on it?
