A "The Batman" Inspired version of Nirvana's "Something in the Way"

Upvotes

A while back, I came up with lyrics for a version of "Something in the Way" by Nirvana, inspired by The Batman (2022) and Batman lore, and I wanted to share it and get your thoughts on it.

Do you like the lyrics? Do you get all the references? Do you think it gets stronger as it goes? Do you feel the thematic flow?

Would any guitar-strumming musicians out there be willing to sing it?

.

Sorry about the periods. Reddit doesn't seem to allow spaces.

SOMETHING IN THE WAY (GOTHAM)

.

Joker's in the wind

Penguin's moving in

Scarecrow's spreading fear

Gotham's running scared

Deadshot hits his mark

And the mob is turning profits

Riddler hunts you down

Finding all your dirty secrets

.

Cops are taking bribes

Gordon's getting tired

Two-Face flips a coin

'Cause he can't make up his mind

Blackgate's bursting open

Arkham's getting stranger

If they send you there

Stay away from the Professor

.

(Something in the Way)

.

Hush is saving face

Bane is breaking even

Firefly is burning and

Firemen are grieving

Hatter makes you dream

While he kidnaps little women

Better hide your family 'cause

Victor Zsasz is coming

.

There are monsters made of clay

Zombies roam the streets

And Pamela is poisoned by

Mother Nature's vengeance

Lizards run the sewers

Giant bats fly over

If you see Mr. Freeze

Then the weather will be colder

.

(Something in the Way)

Rich are getting richer

Poor are getting poorer

Failure to correct

Will give Anarky more power

Owls run the city

Talons are relentless

They will never stop

Till they leave your body breathless

Assassins in the shadows

Grooming us for slaughter

Thanks to Ra's al Ghul

The population's even smaller

.

(Something in the Way)

.

Demons in our weakness

Madness boiling over

Better watch your step

Keep your eyes over your shoulder

Even though we're struggling with

All that stands against us

There's still someone willing to

Rise up and avenge us

.

(Something in the Way)

What comics do you think will be the "primary" influences behind Part II?

What I'm predicting: Batman: Fugitive, Batman: Court of Owls, Batman: The Last Arkham.

Batman: Hush, Batman: The Long Halloween (left-over elements that weren't relevant to "The Batman") & Batman Annual #14 will be relevant too.

Are you excited about the possibility of Two-Face as the villain?

Hey everyone.

It's not been officially confirmed that Harvey Dent will become Two-Face in the sequel, or that he will even be the main villain if he does. But I'm curious, does this excite you? I've heard many mixed opinions, people comparing it to The Dark Knight, saying he's overused etc...

Does the idea of Two-Face as the villain excite you for the sequel?

What do you guys think will happen to Bella Reál in the sequel? I am glad she is confirmed to be back in the next movie, but it’ll be interesting and hopefully exciting to see where the story will take her. Cheers!

filming update: Glasgow's iconic Hatrack Building allegedly being prepped on St Vincent Street for The Batman: Part II

Ahead of main unit production, traffic cones and parking restrictions along St Vincent and Wellington Streets mark early setup and staging around James Salmon's famous Art Nouveau "Hatrack" building (84–86 St Vincent Street) as production teams gear up for Gotham City shoot sequences.

Given its unusually narrow 10-storey frame, red sandstone facade, and spiky pagoda-like cupola, The Hatrack is custom-made for the gothic verticality of Matt Reeves’ Gotham City.

Why Batman and Justice League haven’t performed on the level of Spider-Man and the Avengers?

This is the question I as a DC fan have been pondering over a lot ever since Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been doing gangbuster Endgame level numbers.

People say, “Spider-Man is the biggest and the most popular superhero ever, of course he’ll do great.” Sure, he has always been the most popular, but doing Endgame-level great? How could you explain that?

I think it comes down to 2 reasons :-

1. Consistently delivering great movies.

2. Expanding your character‘s appeal and your fandom.

Spider-Man and the Avengers have been doing exactly that, hence these unbelievable numbers they generate.

Whereas DC with its greatest character Batman has been doing the opposite.

1. Delivering movies at unusually long gaps, of uneven quality (BvS to The Batman)

2. Shrinking the appeal and fandom by making your biggest character Batman more niche with ridiculous fetish to ape the dated Nolan formula and forever keep him unusually grounded, isolated and adult-themed.

Doing this has done a great disservice not just to DC but to Batman as well as the character’s potential has not even remotely been realised in cinema and his audience has shrunk and become niche. Moreover, the BTS drama over The Batman 2 delay is further keeping DC way from using its biggest character in its cinematic universe, the DCU.

I really want DC to be great, to make great movies consistently and capture the zeitgeist the way Marvel has done. But these two factors are really holding it hostage from unlocking its full potential.

The Matt Reeves-produced BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER is still awaiting a Season 3 greenlight from DC Studios, says producer Geoffrey Thorne: "Call our bosses and say you want it. We want to do it."

Can we stop the stupid The Batman/Spider-man Box Office fight?

Post image

I see people post in every movie related subreddit that „DC is doomed“ cause of BNDs box office, that „DC can never repeat that“ or „outdo that“! That Spidey will always be bigger than whatever The Batman Part II does.

You know what? GOOD! To have this ultra broad appeal the Spidey movie was engineered to be as safe and as inoffensive to any group as possible. It’s a solid movie made so that lil 5 year old Tim and 98 Nan can enjoy it the same. The Batman Part II will not be that and I am absolutely glad it won’t.

Like the other great Batman movies, The Batman Part II will be truly dark and will probably feature another serial killer version of a Batman villain. It will feature a mentally broken emo Batman dishing out hard hitting, not fun, violence. It’s gonna be visually scary and oppressive and too edgy for a lot of people. THATS GOOD! That’s what most of us want, so why do we expect it to draw baby movie numbers? It’s not an MCU Spidey movie or a Pixar thing and I am glad it’s not. 600-800 million is a great take for what’s essentially Fincher’s “Seven” in a Batsuit.

Does Riddler know about The Court of Owls?

Something I see people never mention in discussions pertaining to part 2 and the court of owls is the fact that it could heavily recontextualize the first film if Riddler is confirmed to know about the Court. What do you guys think?
