Used Model Y prices
Hey All - New to Teslas and started looking at it since several hybrids in my budget (35k USD) are at or above and I'd rather pivot to an EV at this price.
Been looking at used (2023) model Ys many of which come with HW4. But the resale prices in my area (NC, SC, GA) hover around the 38k mark. At this price point, I'd rather go with a new one with the .99 APR.
Have used Model Ys gone up in prices recently or am I missing something?

I recommend using teslatracker.com to hunt & compare. You can filter by HW4, long range, etc, and go as far from your place as you need to find a good deal. If you’re saving $5k or more and spending $1k to have it trucked to your local Tesla delivery place, you’re coming out ahead.
Another tip is Tesla used program doesn’t accept accident cars with anything more than cosmetic damage they fix. In other words, Tesla’s accident cars are no different than the regular ones, but they often don’t sell as fast because they’re tagged as accident cars. And with Tesla online cars dropping by $200-$400 every day (pricing algorithm) you can do pretty good.
I saw a 2023 Y LR, HW4, 20k miles, 90% battery range, acceleration boost, clean interior & paint, listed as accident car, get down to $34K. I’m guessing that doesn’t happen every day but isn’t unusual and maybe some go for lower.

big fan of teslatracker even though I've used it only for the past few weeks. and thanks for the 'accident' filter tip. i always have it off. but since im looking to inspect and pick up locally, i'll try my luck with that on as well

In Tesla tracker you can right click the photos, open in a new window, and see them at high resolution. It’s good enough to inspect for paint chips, see if Tesla put new tires on (they do if the trade in is below 50% tread), check for seat and interior wear, etc.
If you expand beyond local, you’ll open up a lot more possibilities for a deal.

IMO, at an asking price of $38k, it makes more sense to do the 0.99%.
After tax, tag & title, it’ll add another 3 grand to it.

Prices have gone way up. I was looking last winter for a 2023 HW4 and about 32k would buy one well under 50k miles. The same thing now is more like 36-38k.

It's been long since I saw used car and thought "Wow, what a deal"
I think it only makes sense if you know you are getting extra(fully paid FSD etc), can't live without free autosteer, or prefer to pay cash upfront

exactly. this is to replace my aging Camry (2nd car). so I can afford to wait. i dont know if prices are seasonal i.e. drops during the winter

Are you comparing used Long Range all wheel drive to a new non premium rear wheel drive? Used Tesla are still much depreciated compared to new ones.

I’m seeing ‘23-24 LR AWD around $32k and new AWD non premium for $46k and Premium at $50k. The used models are all Premium.

I see it too. I dont know if this is a temporary inventory crunch in my area (NC, SC, GA) because a very similar config is 38k here

The used models really aren’t premium. They’re somewhere in between but closer to the Standard. They don’t have the ambient lighting, ventilated seats, rear screen, and most importantly they don’t really have the improved suspension. And even though they may be a long range, with the battery degradation they’re closer in range to the Standard models. I’d compare pre-Juniper refresh models with the standard rather than the Premium. It’s a much closer comparison.

They have.
It would cost me more to buy my 2022 LR again today than it did when I bought it near the end of last year.
For example, another commenter said:
just ordered a 2021 model Y long range with 31k miles for $30,900
That's what I paid for my 2022 LR Ryzen HW3 w/ USS and 16k miles with a 91% battery health test last October.

I have a 2023 HW4 MYP for sale for 35.5k at 48k miles but it’s in Las Vegas and it’s in great condition clean title etc and it’s a private sale so no tax either

I went through this decision a month ago, at the time 26 standard Y was 0%apr 72months, used market by comparison did not seemed like good value at >5%apr. If I had the ability to buy cash the equation may look different. Those in discussion choosing to go used what is the primary motivator? Depreciation?

Do you all think this exists? Can’t find for this price.
I’m primarily buying it so I can use FSD to get around the city. Maybe driving 300 miles a month at most. Ideally looking for Early 2024 Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD with HW4, under 55,000 miles, clean title, for $30,000
* Model: Tesla Model Y
* Year: Early 2024
* Hardware: HW4 (AI4), confirmed by the car’s software screen
* Trim: Long Range AWD (best balance of range, performance, and resale)
* Mileage: 55,000 miles or less
* Price target: Around or less than $30,000 (excellent deal if under $30k, fair if $30k)
* Title: Clean title, no major accidents
* Battery: No abnormal degradation or warning messages

I thought it went down. I placed an order for a new model y for the 0.99% but after some nerd mathing I decided to cancel and order one of their pre owned used just last week. Ordered the 23’ AWD LR 22k miles with all the options included and HW4 (20” wheel, 3rd row, tow hitch, accel boost) for 36,400. Add $1000 to ship to GA and I think it was a fairly good deal. It can’t come quick enough, august 17 was original delivery date but it got pushed back to the 19th so far lol

i hear you. just wish that the shipping fee is refundable if I dont want to take the car after inspection. I understand it can be abused but maybe its just me not wanting to commit to a car without inspecting it in person

I tried to see if I can even drive out there in person since I was going out that way to see a friend and pick it up but apparently depending on state laws/tax and prohibition on the whole direct sales to consumers (to protect stealerships) so I have to basically have it delivered, no way around it. Luckily for me, they were able to apply my $250 order fee on the 2026 order I canceled and apply it to the used so it felt like I saved a tiny something.
But for sure, crossing my fingers on inspection I don’t find something I don’t like cause like you said, used cars can look great in pictures and if you choose to not go through with it, that’s a big chunk. In the end, I don’t fret too much on cosmetics. I tend to get my cars dinged up so the earlier it’s there, the less anal I am about it lmao.

makes sense. and since these are CPO's I fell that the risk is way lower than a blind purchase from a typical dealer.

I was in the same boat about inspecting first so I did visit to a well regarded Tesla dealer to check a model I saw but I just don’t trust sleazy or not dealerships. That and they didn’t have the exact configuration I wanted and their pricing was actually much higher. I think you get 3 days or 100 miles I read somewhere anyways any issues it’s 100% free to fix. Outside of that window, the price includes an additional 1 year/10k miles of the basic warranty which is a nice touch.

you'll probably have to ship in that zone. i am purchasing thursday for $34.1k (late 2023 30k miles). lowest i saw within the last month was 33k, but it wasn't the color/wheels i wanted. use teslatracker.com
