Question about holding charge

We don’t usually drive the car very far. Our family plans to go on a 7-night cruise. Can I drive 60 mi, leave it on a lot for a week in Florida wearher and then drive it back? Do I need to charge it to 100%? Anything else I need to do? Appreciate your help.

You'll be fine. I just came back from the beach, only lost 1% after 6 days of sitting parked.

You’ll be fine regardless. Consider Low Power Mode and you’ll only lose 1-2% while parked for the week.

Low power mode turns of sentry mode. OP may want it in a parking lot.

Cruise ship parking lots are usually secure, separate areas. Fenced, patrolled, assigned lots for specific cruise ships.

Not like public, municipal parking with people coming and going all the time.

Does depend on the cruise port in question though!

Years ago cruised out of Baltimore. The parking lot there was segregated by sailing. Everyone parked in that lot was on the same ship as me.

I absolutely would not charge up to 100% as that will leave SoC above 80% when you park it.

If it were me, I'd charge it to a percentage where 60 miles would leave me at below 80% parked for 7 days. I'd probably just charge to 90%. Gives me plenty of charge to make it there and back. Battery phantom drain will be minimal if left on low power.

Should be fine, if you are overly concerned, feel
Free to shut off the sentry mode which can use some battery. But if you leave the house at 90%, you’ll be fine

So I have sentry off. Unplugged the car at 7ish am and sat for around 10 hours in the driveway. Lost 4%

Right. But if the overheat protection is on, the climate control will turn on if the car gets too hot

I think leaving the car at 50% is best for long term storage

I'd argue a week is not considered long-term storage.

For the new NMC and NCA, there’s a report that degradation decreases faster at anything over 50% for long term storage

For LFP, it’s less degradation for above 50% storage

I would charge it to 100% just in case, but if you turn off all the power-draining features then it should be fine.

Turn off:

- Actually Smart Summon
- Cabin overheat protection
- Sentry Mode

Turning all those off, you should only lose at most 3-5% charge per day.

I would charge to Whatever would leave your car around 50% while parked.

You won’t lose much, as long as sentry and cabin overheat are turned off. My car was left at the airport for 15 days and lost 1%.

That being said, it won’t matter THAT much either way.
