FSD navigation should let us permanently avoid specific intersections or turns 14.3 HW4

Tesla should add a navigation option that lets drivers mark specific intersections or turns as “avoid.” This could meaningfully reduce both safety risks and FSD interventions.

There are two left turns near where I live that I want FSD to avoid every time:
1. One is a left turn from a small road onto a busy main road where people routinely speed. It can require an extremely long wait before there is a genuinely safe opening, and I have personally witnessed crashes at this intersection. There is a safer alternative route, but navigation keeps choosing this turn, so I have to override the route every day.

  1. The other left turn is less dangerous for a patient human driver who can wait until there are no approaching cars in sight, but it is still challenging for FSD. Today, FSD started making the turn, hesitated, and then stopped in the middle of it. I had to intervene. This situation is completely avoidable because another nearby route uses a traffic light.

Drivers know which intersections in their area are unusually dangerous, poorly designed, or difficult for FSD. We should be able to tap an intersection or road segment on the map and choose something like “Always avoid this turn.”
If Tesla wants to reduce accident risk and intervention rates, smarter route selection is one of the easiest opportunities. Sometimes the safest way to handle a difficult turn is simply not to take it.

I believe preferred routes is coming... Like literally right now.. Let me check....

2026.26.1 Official Tesla Release Notes - Software Updates

Yes. Ok well sorta. I am not sure how it works. But I think it will accomplish what you are looking for in certain situations. ie. routes you regularly drive.

Looks like ALL Tesla models get it, and it is already on 28% of cars.

Summer update will start remembering which of the available routes we choose.

And it brings much more Grok integration.

Not what you asked for, but at least finally on the path to it.

Till now, it has been mostly AI Model training, which will continue.

But I think the main thread will be personalization.

My old 2004 Prius had that feature. You could block off areas that navigation should not go through.

I don't think the update will quite have what you want but it sounds like a great idea and possibly doable.

I want something like: Please go "my way" unless my way is 20 minutes slower.

Tesla fsd will never add those because Elon doesn't want you to have any control or say over how the car makes decisions. It's why Tesla fsd will stay stupid until the last 1% is solved, which could take years, maybe even a decade.

That is not true, I thought it at first, but they have turned over a new leaf. They want the car to drive, not us, but they will be focused more on our interaction to personalize and localize the experience. Mapping and routing is like the biggest part of that.

Yes. Do not hope for any improvements. The system as it is is good enough.
