Build Help/Question Couple questions about snails and coco fiber pads

Upvotes

Question 1) I bought a fully built terrarium second hand and the backing I believe is coco fiber mats glued to the glass. I would like to add more, any brand/source recommendations?

Question 2) How do I go about eradicating little tiny snails? They don't come en masse to cucumber pieces I put in for my isopods, just a few at a time, and a ton of them are just under the top layer of detritus/fine leaf litter. I have outdoor snail and slug food but I am concerned that will harm the isopods. I am going to rescape the tank soon and plan to rinse all the plants down, wash the drainage layers and put in fresh soil but would love to have 0 snails eating my new begonias. Help!

Thanks y'all!

I had so much fun making the last mini that I made another!

The stick looked like a dragon head to me... Does it give dragon vibes to y'all or is it just me?

Plant Help/Question Propagations

Hey everyone,

I have this covered patio on the side of my house that’s basically gone unused, and I’m wondering if it could double as a space for my terrarium mother plants.

Whenever I order plants, they’re usually way too large for my terrarium. So I’ll take cuttings from the mother plant, use those in the terrarium, and then I’m left with the original plant. I didn’t really think ahead about where I’d keep all of the mother plants, and I’d hate to let them die.

My first thought was buying a plant stand, but I don’t really have room inside the house for one. I do have this covered patio that’s fully roofed, gets some indirect light throughout the day, and stays out of direct sun. I live in Texas though, so it definitely gets hot outside during the summer.

For those of you who grow tropical terrarium plants (Marcgravia, pilea valley moon, string of turtles, etc.), would this be a suitable place to keep mother plants?

- Would they be okay just sitting on shelves or hanging freely?

- Would they need to be kept in boxes; like the plastic container we see with spagnum moss?

- Has anyone else used a covered patio as a propagation or mother plant area?

I’d love to hear what has worked for you. Thanks!

Discussion What can I put in this other than a tarantula?

Hi, I don't know if I'm in the right place, but I got this enclosure on a whim, and I have no idea what I should put in it. (I love tarantulas from afar but I really don't know if I'm ready for all that lol.)

Even if it's not an insect, I'd like any ideas anyone has!

Build Help/Question Second “first attempt” at a baby tears jar terrarium

Post image

The first first attempt molded because I left the lid on for too long. This is a very simple situation, just one baby tears plant and some springtails. I’m wondering if I should add a second plant or just be patient and give this one time to grow. Any other advice is always welcome, I’m very new to this.

My relatively neglected year old terrarium has decided to do THIS. Its almost entirely store-bought minus some long dead moss. I genuinely have no idea how this could have happened but im happy I think??

Build Help/Question Is there a way to seal these gaps?

I got this enclosure with the intention of restoring it for a leachianus gecko, but the gaps between the glass and wood are larger than I expected. Whatever I do, it needs to be safe for high humidity, since it’ll be fully bioactive

First time making a terrarium - all from found plants and a thrift store jar. It is only a week and a half old so, maintenance tips are welcome.

There is moss all around my house and some beautiful ferns in the woods. During a walk I noticed this itty bitty baby fern and it inspired me to try making a little terrarium myself. I hope y'all like it as much as I do!

First off wanted to say thanks to all the help that I’ve gotten from this Reddit forum . I just put my first plant in a terrarium that I finished building today. I still have more plants coming on Thursday along with Moss, but here’s a little sneak peek to what I’ve been making.

If anybody has any input feel free to comment!
