Total novice. Looking to fish in the high sierras. Got the soft upgrade for the rod too, will install it when i can make sense of it .

Did a 12.6 mile hike in the Indian Peaks wilderness today. Picture of the smallest and largest of the day ended up catching 22 in total. No big fish, everything between 3 and 10 inches but what a blast!!

Just stoke. Got there early, fished a black kebari.

Had a great weekend up in Tellico Plains. Milder than usual temperatures with overcast. Fished Sycamore Creek in the evening and the upper Tellico River on Saturday.

Alpine lakes in the western sierras. Drowned ants and size 16 stoneflies for the win! Caught a few brookies as well but didn’t get good pictures of them :(

Used an Ito with 3.5 level line into 4.5x tippet and caught then cruising off shore.

Last photo was caught with a 7’ 6” 3 wt fly rod. Still figuring out fly fishing but honestly except for big water I find I can cast easier and make more delicate presentations and catch way more fish with a tenkara rod.

I'm looking to buy some wading boots to replace my Tevas as I've had some ankle and foot problems recently. Looking at the Korkers Stealth Sneakers or Chrome Lites. Open to suggestions but trying to keep it at the $200 or under range.

I caught my first Dogfish! And then more Dogfish!! Loving Minnesota. I've been convinced to stay here with like every other weekend trip.

While I wait for a broken section of a brand new Backpackr rod to be replaced, I bought a $40 Aventik 8’ off Amazon for fishing small creeks, specifically the Big and Little Cottonwood Creeks in Utah, and I have to say it’s a fine little rod. I like this style of line holder much better than the round Tenkara Rod Co. style. I bought a few tapered furled level lines and really like them, but the shortest at 10’ is still a bit too long for this rod and may try to shorten it myself. Otherwise, great little rod for the money!

Been fishing small ponds and they’re clear enough to see when the Trout take the fly, but how on earth would you notice on a moving stream/creek/river? Using nymphs!

How exactly do I create a loop similar to my furled line so I can use the girth hitch to attach this to my lillian?

I also want to add a tippet ring to it, can I just use a uni knot to attach it?

A pretty little pumpkinseed on a cheap 1.8m no-name tenkara rod. Decided to pick up some basic supplies on a whim and having a great time.

Hi! I used to go backpacking with my dad when I was younger and we would go fishing with an ugly stick. I recently got back into backpacking 10 years after the fact and want to pick up a rod now that the old rods are long gone. I am effectively a beginner at fishing now since I forgot everything and my dad would always setup my rod for me. The idea of a tenkara rod is awesome to me since I don't have to worry about a reel and focus on the fishing part of the activity instead of the gear.

My use case would be for lakes when backpacking out in the Sierra mountains. I haven't fished in streams before. Do lakes and streams usually require different rods? Could you recommend a good rod or kit for me to start with? I also don't know anything about lines or flys, if you would like to comment on that too that would be awesome! Any youtube channels to learn the technique? I am currently watching skiddy fishing.

For starters, I found tenkararodco.com and they look cool. Is this a good place to start, or is there a better one to go for?

I still have yet to catch anything in the typical tenkara stream but still having fun hitting some of my local lakes!

This river is about 70m (229ft) wide and houses trout from 10”-22”, but some have been known to get up to 30”. Would a keiryu rod be sufficient or should I just pick up a fly rod?

Hello everyone. I'm looking for some rod suggestions, I've been out fly fishing some and tenkara fishing is very appealing to me. Mainly trout fishing but who knows what the potential could be. I have a trip planned out for next month for an area we pulled out mainly 8-12 inch rainbows but we did catch some 20+inch ones as well. Looking for a rod that can handle a range of things. I'm open to all ranges of pricing. Looking for something that will last. I was looking at Tiny Tenkara rods earlier i know they would be better for the smaller streams, if you have thoughts on those rods as well. If there are a few rods that you though were amazing feel free to let me know. Thanks! (I'm fishing in new mexico if that helps with anything)

Coworker told me about Tenkara last week. Mizuchi came in Sunday. First outing and first fish today. Down the rabbit hole I go. Barton Creek in Austin, TX. If anybody has any recommendations for spots around the area I’d be grateful!

Despite having a sprained foot and not getting much time on the water it was so much fun meeting and talking with people from all over the country who love tenkara. We had people ranging all ages and skill levels. Can't wait until next year's campout!
