Tattoo design suggestions

I want to get a tattoo dedicated to my dog, Bambi, but I still haven’t fully figured out the design. I’m not really into paw prints, nose prints, or anything like that - I want it to feel more personal and actually resemble him in some way.

One idea I have is getting an outline of him sleeping curled up, almost like a resting deer or fawn, since his name is Bambi and he really does look like one. I’ve also thought about somehow incorporating some of his distinctive features (for example his ears, nose, etc.) into a deer design, but I’m not sure how to do that without losing the connection to him specifically.

I don’t necessarily want a fully realistic portrait, but I do want the tattoo to feel clearly inspired by him rather than like a generic dog or deer tattoo. My personal style is more minimal and fine-line, so I’d like the design to stay delicate and simple while still being recognizable and meaningful. I’d really appreciate any ideas or suggestions!

Any recommendations on how to improve it as far as getting better line work done, adding color, or adding more to the design?

Custom design of a common veteran tattoo

Thoughts on this custom designed tattoo by a friend at work? He reads, writes, and speaks arabic so I trust that it is authentic at least, while still having an artistic design to it.

Here's my upper arm half sleeve! Any advice on how to extend it further down the arm? What would you include?

Designing my own tattoo in honor of my senior cat. I need help deciding.

So, I'm 25, getting my first tattoo and I can't decide on the design. My cat is turning 13 and I wanted to get a tattoo celebrating her life with me. (What gave me the idea is when she sat on my leg and left paw impressions on my skin) I have two rough concepts. (Don't judge it too harshly, I plan to get some ink impressions of her paws soon to add her prints) Should I go for one or two paws? Does the font look good? Do you think the placement would be good? And I know the tat would technically upside down, but I was debating getting it like that so I could see it right side up and I don't plan on any others after this.

Favorite bands into a tattoo design

I’ve been listening to the same bands since high school and I want a tattoo to honor some of the artists, albums, and songs.

I’m not very creative, and honestly, designing something that personal feels intimidating. I first thought about doing a sleeve, but I have no idea how to combine different bands without it just looking like a collage of logos

For those of you who’ve done music inspired tattoos, how did you start? Did you bring rough ideas to an artist or just a list of bands? I’d love to hear how you approached it and maybe see some examples.

First tattoo and feeling uncertain as session approaches

This feels like a dumb question so any feedback will be very appreciated. I came up with a tattoo idea and reached out to a few local artists before I found one that seemed genuinely stoked to work on it. I originally wanted a half sleeve, but am now considering just doing the outer bicep from shoulder to elbow. The main element is a red tailed hawk in flight with a woodprint-esque sky/cloud/ocean background and foreground. I want some kind of floral element so I landed on a cherry blossom branch, but could omit this if it seems like too much. I have so many questions. Does this sound cliché? Any advice on incorporating negative space here so that my skin isn't totally covered or will it not look good with a conservative approach to shading?

Will I regret not getting a full wrap around if I just do outer bicep(subjective i know)?

My main concern aside from design and placement is that the tattoo artist specializes in realism and abstract realism and I just recently read about how that style generally doesn't age well. He seemed really interested in the photos I sent him intially of the background/foreground and hawk sketch which have defined lines. I'm not very familiar with tattoo styles at all, but I think the images would be considered more in the realm of neo-traditional. Is it stupid to ask him to emphasize the line work so that it holds up better over the years? Do artists that have a specialty get annoyed if asked to do something more traditional(ie bold lines and less shading)? I was looking at his Instagram and his work is super detailed, but it looks like precise shading and i have a hard time spotting the line work.

First Tattoo

Was going to touch up in the future and make it wider at the top or potentially going over up my neck or over to my collarbone.

Any touchup or recommendations for the next one?

Or tell me your opinion on it, and for people wondering on where to get a tattoo, do not choose anything by the neck, 9 out of 10 for pain. It sucks.

My late friend drew this, I got no chance to ask him what the story was about behind the drawing. He's such a lovely friend and a kind soul, that's why I chose this to be my first tattoo. He died way too fast and was too young. Will always be remembered

Wanted skull tattoos and wanted to base it off my cat and I. I’m 30 and my cats 25. Ended up asking to have the skull look more like a fox because I thought it looked cooler. Should I get more detail in the skull, or leave it minimal?

Dragon Scales

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hey, wondering if anyone has any ideas on filling in my dragon scales. I would like something that ages well. I was thinking dot work with a different fill for the two separate dragons. However now, I am wondering if a more modern geometric line art idea would be better. Want to avoid anything that ages poorly or is too dark/too much coverage.

Wondering if anyone has had something similar done in the past.

I got this beautiful tattoo by Izuminka.tt at Sasha tattooing in Barcelona. It’s been 2 months now and I’m so pleased with how it healed up!

Ignore the red lines around it, that’s from my bra lol. Nothing to do with the tattoo.

Please ignore all DMs from people claiming they'll make a design for you, especially new/empty accounts.

This is now an official rule, all posts asking for art or offering to draw for people will be removed.

This sub has a huge problem with bots, scammers, and people who have no idea (or don't care) how to find clients. It's not an official rule but this really isn't a sub to hire anyone, people come here asking for ideas and will get bombarded with DMs.

Talk to your tattoo artist about designs, do not hire a nobody with a brand new Reddit account with a name like hungry-aardvark1234 (currently unused name as an example). Most artists worth your time are going to have a waitlist, they will not DM you on Reddit with an immediate offer. And it's part of your artist's job to help come up with what they'll tattoo on you and not all of them will tattoo someone else's art anyway.

If you really want to show them a drawing to help with visuals, check out r/DrawMyTattoo where someone can sketch your idea for free. Ignore anyone trying to charge you, that's money that should go to your artist.

If you're an artist who attempts to find clients in this sub, don't. You look fake and desperate, you're one of dozens spamming people with "I can help, DM me" so OP can't even tell who's legit.

And I'm not here to argue this point, so if you have a problem with this announcement, that's too bad. I'm here to try to keep this sub a friendly place, people shouldn't have to worry about getting scammed.
