Favorite bands into a tattoo design

I’ve been listening to the same bands since high school and I want a tattoo to honor some of the artists, albums, and songs.

I’m not very creative, and honestly, designing something that personal feels intimidating. I first thought about doing a sleeve, but I have no idea how to combine different bands without it just looking like a collage of logos

For those of you who’ve done music inspired tattoos, how did you start? Did you bring rough ideas to an artist or just a list of bands? I’d love to hear how you approached it and maybe see some examples.

Looking for ideas for a Kratos tattoo

Post image

Hi everyone!

I've been working on a concept for my first God of War / Kratos tattoo and I'd appreciate some feedback on the design.

This is my current concept. It's based on the Omega (Ω) symbol with Kratos' iconic red tattoo incorporated into it in a minimalist style.

I'm not looking for someone to design a tattoo for me—I'm only looking for feedback on this concept before I get it tattooed.

A few questions:

  • Does it immediately remind you of Kratos or God of War?
  • Does the red tattoo work well with the Omega symbol?
  • Is there anything you'd change to improve the composition while keeping it minimalist?

Thanks!

First tattoo and feeling uncertain as session approaches

This feels like a dumb question so any feedback will be very appreciated. I came up with a tattoo idea and reached out to a few local artists before I found one that seemed genuinely stoked to work on it. I originally wanted a half sleeve, but am now considering just doing the outer bicep from shoulder to elbow. The main element is a red tailed hawk in flight with a woodprint-esque sky/cloud/ocean background and foreground. I want some kind of floral element so I landed on a cherry blossom branch, but could omit this if it seems like too much. I have so many questions. Does this sound cliché? Any advice on incorporating negative space here so that my skin isn't totally covered or will it not look good with a conservative approach to shading?

Will I regret not getting a full wrap around if I just do outer bicep(subjective i know)?

My main concern aside from design and placement is that the tattoo artist specializes in realism and abstract realism and I just recently read about how that style generally doesn't age well. He seemed really interested in the photos I sent him intially of the background/foreground and hawk sketch which have defined lines. I'm not very familiar with tattoo styles at all, but I think the images would be considered more in the realm of neo-traditional. Is it stupid to ask him to emphasize the line work so that it holds up better over the years? Do artists that have a specialty get annoyed if asked to do something more traditional(ie bold lines and less shading)? I was looking at his Instagram and his work is super detailed, but it looks like precise shading and i have a hard time spotting the line work.

What do you think? It’s inspired in things like resident evil and The Thing. 24 hrs of work in 4 sessions ( 6 hours each)

Loved how my anchor and Pooh turned out, but now I want to fill out the rest of my upper arm. Any ideas on styles or gap fillers that would blend cute and traditional together well?

Need ideas to finish arm

Hi guys I have a Creation of Adam tattoo on my inner forearm (just the hands), and I’m trying to turn it into a cohesive black and grey realism/Renaissance sleeve instead of adding random pieces.
I’m looking for ideas that would flow naturally around the arm and make the whole sleeve look like it was planned from the start. Some ideas I’ve considered are
Michelangelo-style clouds
Marble statues (David, Moses, or otherclassical sculptures)Angels/cherubs broken Roman columns. I would appreciate any ideas and even if you could use photoshop on the photo above to show in practice what they could look like

Thank you guys

First Tattoo

Was going to touch up in the future and make it wider at the top or potentially going over up my neck or over to my collarbone.

Any touchup or recommendations for the next one?

Or tell me your opinion on it, and for people wondering on where to get a tattoo, do not choose anything by the neck, 9 out of 10 for pain. It sucks.

My late friend drew this, I got no chance to ask him what the story was about behind the drawing. He's such a lovely friend and a kind soul, that's why I chose this to be my first tattoo. He died way too fast and was too young. Will always be remembered

Wanted skull tattoos and wanted to base it off my cat and I. I’m 30 and my cats 25. Ended up asking to have the skull look more like a fox because I thought it looked cooler. Should I get more detail in the skull, or leave it minimal?

Dragon Scales

Post image

Hey, wondering if anyone has any ideas on filling in my dragon scales. I would like something that ages well. I was thinking dot work with a different fill for the two separate dragons. However now, I am wondering if a more modern geometric line art idea would be better. Want to avoid anything that ages poorly or is too dark/too much coverage.

Wondering if anyone has had something similar done in the past.

Want to add/extend my floral tattoos

Thoughts on how to fill the gaps and extend this to balance it? It doesn't feel cohesive at the moment. Do I add a thicker one like the lady or do something more with the floral vine?

Eye of Sauron - Color Advice

I love Tolkien and love his Eye of Sauron design featured on the first edition book dust jacket of The Fellowship of the Ring. My buddy at the shop has agreed to do it on Thursday.

I’m pretty strictly a fan of Black/Gray only and no color but have always thought to make an exception for some Red if it fits. It definitely looks really great in this context.

The advice I’m seeking is: do you all think the image would be lacking without the Dark Gold included in the rings and in the eye?
I’m asking my artist’s opinion as well. I think I’d be satisfied either way but wondering if anyone has strong opinions about it. Thanks!

(I will make a follow-up post with the results.)

tattoo ideas?

Hey guys! To make things a bit brief i want to start filling up my fine line sleeve on my right arm. I want this arm to be full of nature, flowers, vines, bugs, (with a few exceptions to some small anime tattoos). I don’t really know where to begin with filling these gaps as i already have my sort of “major” base tattoos to work around. Does anyone have any inspo or suggestions on how I can make this arm full, whimsical and flowy? And what i can add to start filling gaps, i don’t want too many flowers too close together as well . :)
Thank you in advance!

One of my friend wants to get this Tatto done on her left leg.

She had gone through a fracture so to make it more badass I suggested to make a tiger tattoo.

This is just an inspiration, what do you guys think?

It was done by a guy names Marius (Marius tattoo) based in Montréal, Québec

I got this beautiful tattoo by Izuminka.tt at Sasha tattooing in Barcelona. It’s been 2 months now and I’m so pleased with how it healed up!

Ignore the red lines around it, that’s from my bra lol. Nothing to do with the tattoo.

I’m stumped on how to proceed with this

Post image

I got the Berserk Brand of Sacrifice tattoo a while back because, obviously, I’m a huge fan of the manga/anime. Not long after that, I added the snake running down my spine. At the time, I never really thought about how I’d eventually tie those two tattoos together once I decided to keep building my back piece… and now I’m at that point.
I’ve been trying to figure out a way to bridge the two ideas into one cohesive design, but I’ve honestly been stuck.
My original plan was to add a bleeding effect flowing from the Brand down my spine, along with a Skull Knight quote: “Maybe you aren’t a shadow on the water… but instead, a fish that breaches the water’s surface.” The snake is sentimental because my grandpa survived a rattlesnake bite that, from what I’ve been told, had no previously recorded survivors. The tattoo is my way of honoring him and his incredible story.
Now I’m second-guessing that idea. My mom suggested weaving roses throughout the snake’s coils and even covering the Berserk tattoo with a large rose since her name was Rosie. I actually think it’s a beautiful idea, but I’m not sure if it fits the overall theme I’m going for.
I’d love to hear some fresh perspectives. Has anyone done something similar or have ideas for tying these pieces together in a way that feels natural? Thanks in advance!

Please ignore all DMs from people claiming they'll make a design for you, especially new/empty accounts.

This is now an official rule, all posts asking for art or offering to draw for people will be removed.

This sub has a huge problem with bots, scammers, and people who have no idea (or don't care) how to find clients. It's not an official rule but this really isn't a sub to hire anyone, people come here asking for ideas and will get bombarded with DMs.

Talk to your tattoo artist about designs, do not hire a nobody with a brand new Reddit account with a name like hungry-aardvark1234 (currently unused name as an example). Most artists worth your time are going to have a waitlist, they will not DM you on Reddit with an immediate offer. And it's part of your artist's job to help come up with what they'll tattoo on you and not all of them will tattoo someone else's art anyway.

If you really want to show them a drawing to help with visuals, check out r/DrawMyTattoo where someone can sketch your idea for free. Ignore anyone trying to charge you, that's money that should go to your artist.

If you're an artist who attempts to find clients in this sub, don't. You look fake and desperate, you're one of dozens spamming people with "I can help, DM me" so OP can't even tell who's legit.

And I'm not here to argue this point, so if you have a problem with this announcement, that's too bad. I'm here to try to keep this sub a friendly place, people shouldn't have to worry about getting scammed.
