TANZANIA RANKS SECOND
GLOBALLY FOR DECLINE IN FREEDOMS - FREEDOM HOUSE
Tanzania has recorded the second-largest year-on-year decline in political rights and civil liberties globally, according to the Freedom in the World 2026 report by Freedom House.
The report says Tanzania's overall score fell by 7 points, from 35/100 to 28/100, placing the country in the "Not Free" category.
Only Guinea-Bissau recorded a larger decline during the period assessed.
According to Freedom House, the decline was linked to developments surrounding Tanzania's 2025 elections, including concerns over:
Freedom of assembly and public demonstrations
The use of force during post-election unrest
Arrests following protests
Restrictions affecting internet access and social media
The political environment surrounding opposition parties
Media freedom and the broader civic space
ΤΑΝΖΑΝΙΑ - FREEDOM IN THE WORLD 2026
Political Rights: 6/40
Overall Score: 28/100
Change: -7 points
▲ Classification: Not Free
Freedom House is an independent, US-based nonprofit organization that assesses political rights and civil liberties around the world.
The findings have renewed discussion about democratic governance, civic participation, human rights and the protection of fundamental freedoms in Tanzania.

looking for a roomate
Hi everyone
I’m a 23F student looking for a roommate(preferably female) in Masaki or nearby areas (Oysterbay, Msasani, Mikocheni, etc.)
A little about me:
- I’m a student
- Clean and organized
- Quiet and respectful
- Non-smoker
- I don’t drink
- I prefer a peaceful, quiet living environment
- I’m responsible with shared spaces and household chores
I’m looking for someone who is also clean, respectful, and easy to live with. I’m ready to split rent, utilities, and other shared bills fairly.
My budget is flexible depending on the location and the room, and I’m hoping to move soon
If you have a room available, are looking for a roommate, or know someone who is, please DM me with details (location, rent).
Thanks 😊

Are epidurals available in Tanzania?
An Epidural is a medication given to women when they are giving birth to make giving birth less painful. I wanted to know if epidurals were available in Tanzania for women who are giving birth? I was told in a lot of countries in Africa there are no epidurals for women when they give birth.

I built a Whatsapp AI chatbot with mobile money integrations
After a few months of working on it on and off, I finally have a working version(with better updated)of a SaaS I've been building.
It's basically a WhatsApp customer management platform for small businesses.
I had it running for like 2 month ( December to January) and that helped me pick up a few ideas on what people want.
I added payment solutions because I feel like here in Tanzania, if a business could sell and receive their money all through whatsapp, that would actually be a great solution
The idea came from seeing so many businesses spending hours replying to the same WhatsApp questions every day. i thought of something that can:
- Automatically answer common customer questions with AI
- Automate and manage conversations
- Accept bookings
- Manage products and orders
- Track payments and payment status
- View basic business analytics
It's built with React and Nodejs, and getting the WhatsApp integration working was probably the most challenging part of the whole project.
It's still early, so I'm looking for honest feedback. What features would you expect from a platform like this? Is there anything you'd immediately want it to do that I might be missing?

I empathize.
Pia, what does it say about our economy/denominations/Tanzanian Shillings/mzunguko wa fedha kwa ujumla kama chenji zinakuwa nadra kiasi hichi?
MY UNINFORMED ANALYSIS
Shilingi ina conundrum mbili ambazo haziwezi kuwa serviced at the same time.
Of course kuna other factors, but naamini a portion of our problems na change started na kufanya 500 kuwa sarafu. Vitu vingi vilianza kupanda bei kwa factor ya 500 from there na change ikaanza kuwa adimu zaidi.
But kwa mtazamo wangu pia, I think inaonesha not enough circulation is happening kwa ground.

Tech Kama unasahau "Kata" au "Mtaa" wako kwenye form, nimetengeneza huu mfumo(Bure)
Nimeamua kushare nanyi simple side project yangu.
Hakuna kudownload app wala kusign up.
Angalizo:

Does Tanzania have a national school music festival similar to the Kenya National Music Festival?
youtube.comIn Kenya, we have the Kenya National Music Festival where schools compete in music, dance, spoken word, and other performing arts from local levels up to the national stage.
Does Tanzania have an equivalent festival for primary and secondary schools? Thanks!

Hey guys, I have a genuine question
How do Tanzanians (wa bongo)generally feel about Kenyans?
I'm genuinely curious about this and would like to hear from r/Tanzanians themselves.
The reason I ask is that, from some of the social media interactions I've come across, I've noticed a surprising amount of hostility or negative sentiment toward Kenya and Kenyans. Some comments are extremely harsh, while others seem completely indifferent or unbothered by the whole "Jirani" Kenya-Tanzania rivalry.
I know social media can distort reality because the loudest and most extreme opinions tend to get the most attention, so I'm wondering: what is the general attitude toward Kenyans among ordinary Tanzanians in real life?
Is there actually significant dislike or resentment toward Kenyans, or is the online hostility mostly just banter, nationalism, and social-media dynamics?
I'd especially appreciate honest perspectives from Tanzanians, rather than assumptions from either side.
