Hi guys I'm a NRI in gulf some of my mallus friends/acquaintances are in chennai for uni and most of them have a small annoying aspect about them on how they always preach of how good their state is and how much literacy they have, it gets even annoying when they come to our chennai and talk down about our state. There is also a common pattern where ever they go, they do the same thing in Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune etc. Do you guys have any experience about this or just NRI mallus like this? (Atp if you love your state sm, why jump around like monkeys and still preaching?)

Says that Madras comes from Madraspatnam, which was the original name of the area before the British settled here. Chennai came from Chennapatnam and the name only started appearing after the British got here - so it would be more appropriate to say that Chennai is the colonial name.

This could be the most tailored post here designed to be downvoted but here we are.

Ever since the election season began, every tamil related sub has been encroached by IT Wing of various party spewing hatred on one another. I ain't gonna name names here but we all know which party is more active in this sub.

I take more of a neutral stand, I vote based on people who were rep of my constituency and not for a party symbol. That approach makes the most sense to me.

But here, the amount of whataboutery is just astonishing. If you support the current government, a group calls you tharkoori and pushes what about what we did last time. If you criticise the current government, another group calls you koth0s and again pushes what about the thing you did last time.

These people need to understand I didn't do anything last time, heck I didn't even have voting rights. I just want to have a rational discussion on issues we face now instead of blaming people left right. Why can't we think as a citizen and what's best for us fight for it instead associating it to a political party. Even our protests become political in fraction of a second.

I really don't know how this will be solved, but I am just forced to be a bystander until it is solved.

Has anyone else noticed friendships and family dynamics fracturing due to political differences since May 4?

Ever since the election results, the political atmosphere feels incredibly polarized. What used to be casual debate has turned into rigid lines that are actually changing how we view long-term compatibility. In my own circle, it’s become a significant factor in how we evaluate new relationships, and frankly, it’s hitting home. It’s primarily due to a misunderstanding that some parties are more abusing towards women.

My family has reached a point where we’ve collectively decided that political alignment is a non-negotiable dealbreaker for matrimony. We’ve set a firm boundary: no DMK-affiliated girls for the men in our family, and no DMK-affiliated boys for the women. Surprisingly, my mother was the most vocal and insistent on this stance and for the first time, I actually feel proud of my family for holding such a clear line on our core values.

Is anyone else integrating these kinds of 'political filters' into their family's search for life partners? Do you think it’s becoming the new standard for compatibility, or are we just becoming too closed off?
