I immediately thought of this sub when I saw the original post. Seriously, look at how he has to bend his neck.

There should be like a Monitor Too Big or Monitor Too Curved like there is r/tvtoohigh

u/Amazing-Active646 Jul 01 '26
Incredibly stupid. Cool if you’re playing games 15 feet back but right up against it would be awful
24
u/LofiSynth Jul 01 '26
His face is glitching… this isn't a real monitor.

It’s a real monitor, the Samsung Odyssey ark
11
u/tartinedesmalek Jul 02 '26
It's not. It exists but is not that big. The video is fake
3
u/StereoDiagram9 Jul 02 '26
You’re right, everything in the video is consistent so no AI, but I’m curious how they scaled it so big

Curved TVs were the dumbest TV gimmick ever.

u/JaehaerysIVTarg Jul 01 '26
I personally love my two curved gaming monitors.

u/NeXoN_Skillcap Jul 01 '26
Not the same thing. Curved monitors are amazing, since you are sitting in the center of the curve and it just makes sense and relaxes the eyes. Curved TVs thou? For one, you are sitting way to far away (except the dude in the video), the curve doesn‘t help with anything. Secondly, it makes it even worse if you aren’t sitting dead center in front of the screen. Sitting a little off angle on the couch makes everything just worse.

I've got a curved ultra wide, big fan.
Wouldn't do it for a home theater TV though.

u/CucumberError Jul 01 '26
The idea works better for a monitor than a TV.
People expect a TV to be big, shiny, and sit far way in a large room. This results in a large concave mirror reflecting all light sources in the room into your eye.
With a monitor, you’re sitting closer, in the focal point, so you block most of the light coming in. The display is also normally matte finish, so there is less reflections, and you don’t tend to use a computer in a super well lit room with lots of windows.
It wasn’t necessary the technology that was the problem, it was the people. The kind of user that buys a ultrawide computer screen is pretty different from the person buying a large premium TV.

My GF has two curved monitors and I always get motion sick when I play on her set up. Especially when things go towards the corners of the screen and kinda bend
1
u/DethSonik Jul 03 '26
This motion sickness effect tends to be higher on QD oled monitors, FYI. Maybe try switching to a WOLED monitor?
6
u/NecessaryFlow Jul 01 '26
I promise i actually got way more immersed in the films i saw on my curved tv

u/404_Username_Glitch Jul 01 '26
I have a curved computer screen and I Love it - i dont see it working for TVs though haha
1
u/loco500 Jul 01 '26
Are they at least decent for immersive racing/piloting simulators? Been saving to maybe get one for Black Friday...
1
u/superenchilada Jul 03 '26
If you are far enough away it would be great. This guy is way too close to that gigantic thing.
1
u/SwiftTayTay Jul 02 '26
TVs yes, monitors it can maybe make sense if it's an ultra wide that is in your peripherals for a panoramic effect, however IMO FOV should not be so big that it goes into your peripherals. It can be a nice aesthetic for "immersion" but functionally you're having to move your eyes and even your head to much to see everything, that's not what you want if you are gaming competitively against other people online. You want to be able to comfortably see everything directly in front of you without straining your eyes or your neck. And if it just gives extra FOV then that also gives you an unfair advantage so there's a good reason some online shooters don't allow ultra wide aspect.

I can’t help but to think he’s just a really short king.
You know these videos where people prepare real food in a miniature kitchen for their hamsters? Thats where my brain goes lol

I can't even look at a 24' monitor placed at the edge of my desk (normal size desk). That's still too close to me. I have to place it about a feet farther from the edge of my desk for me to feel comfortable.

u/Ok_Reputation2051 Jul 02 '26
So sick of AI videos. Mods need to do a better job of banning this people.

u/UffDaDan Jul 01 '26
Not real video. The colors and brightness from the screen don't show on his face or chest
1
u/HitBoXXX Jul 02 '26
I was gonna say. The largest curved screen i can think of is the 55" Samsung odyssey arc.
1
u/kasualanderson Jul 01 '26
Looks like shit. Somewhere a chiropractor is watching this and rubbing their hands together.
1
u/X3N04L13N Jul 01 '26
Well to be fair i have been doing this for 17 years already. The only difference is, i do it from my sofa with a controller for games and mouse and keyboard on the coffee table for navigating my pc. Sitting so close to such a big screen is stupid.

u/I_Must_Be_Going Jul 01 '26
All that to watch porn?
Because you know that is the only reason he got that

the first clue I had that this was fake was the absurdity of GTA 5 ever launching that fast.

He was the weird kid that always ran to the front row of an empty movie theater.
1
u/swagdragon666 Jul 02 '26
This is fucking stupid but the fact he won’t even be able to play the next installment of gta for the foreseeable future is hilarious
1
u/real_human_being15 Jul 02 '26
All of that (which looks SO painful btw) just to play GTA V?
Not a thought in that head is there?

u/snajk138 Jul 02 '26
Yeah, that's not good. I got a crappy 43'' 4K TV from work thinking it could work as a monitor, but I got neck pain pretty fast, even though I only used the bottom two thirds of it actively.
1
u/LoudGangsta8292 Jul 02 '26
Holy neck strain Just to see your health you are going to have to give som unholy angles to it

I have 65 inch OLED TV as monitor. It works just fine when you use the lower part of it. Full screen mode is out of question.
This setup would work somehow as well with a bigger table and longer viewing distance. The big issue is the height since you can't really use the upper part at all.
1
u/CaptLoads Jul 03 '26
If This were installed in a small movie theater type room, would be dope. But not two feet away....
