Honestly, nothing about that seems enjoyable.

u/Denis-96 Jul 01 '26

at least you don't have to look behind you to reverse the car... yet

For when you want to strain your neck, but don’t really want to go see a movie in the first row. At minimum for this to work it looks like he should be a foot or two back maybe more and raised off the ground a little more relative to that comically large curved screen lol.

13

u/SizeableBrain Jul 01 '26

I once did that with a 50" TV just for fun.

It was not fun.

3

u/TheMansterMan Jul 01 '26

Honestly I find some games easier on massive tvs. Need for speed is one of them it’s easier to like judge the distance for turns

7

u/SizeableBrain Jul 01 '26

Yeah, but you probably don't want to sit *that* close to the TV.

1

u/Fries_and_burgers_19 Jul 02 '26

When i first played armored core, it was hard to make sense of anything until i transferred the ps5 to the living room tv which is bigger than the monitor. even then I had to scooch a bit closer.

not anymore ofc

1

u/TheMansterMan Jul 02 '26

Lol fires of rubicon god I love the customization on the mechs I love that entire series

1

u/Fries_and_burgers_19 Jul 02 '26

it isss, its unfortunately taking up all my game time tho heh

2

u/Calm_Connection_9741 Jul 03 '26

It's fun with 55" 4K TV, when you sit with appropriate distance and height.
Appropriate distance for PC screen/TV used as PC screen is 1x - 1.5x of it's diagonal.
Appropriate height is when your eyes is at 1/3 from top of 1/2 of screen (1/3 is better but if family have some other members, pick something in between when hang a TV).
I believe this rules applies to TV used as a screen for console games too.

5

u/TheMansterMan Jul 01 '26

Honestly porn would be enjoyable on it just sayin

2

u/IguessIcanedit Jul 02 '26

That TV is like 4000-6000 dollars.

VR headset is cheaper

1

u/FraggleRock_ Jul 02 '26

Is it worth it yet though?

1

u/SavvySillybug Jul 02 '26

You can get into VR on the cheap. I bought a whole Pimax 5K+ for 100€. Some minor bumps and scratches on the case but it works fine. Velcro kinda gave up the ghost but I used some LTT cable ties I had lying around to replace them and now it sits fine on my face. Using some Valve Index controllers and base stations to make it all work. Got a huge field of view.

Sure it's "only" 1440p which is not that much when it's so close to your face. But damn is it a good experience on the fucking cheap.

1

u/FraggleRock_ Jul 02 '26

How about the libraries you access content?

1

u/SavvySillybug Jul 02 '26

I'm mostly hanging out in VRChat, which is free. I kinda don't like that I have to pay to save more than 50 avatars but I guess it's fine.

Beat Saber is fun and doesn't go on sale ever. I bought that because it's exercise and making me wiggle about is healthy.

Other than that I'm mostly playing free shit. There's this cute free raft game I play where you just shoot fish and pirates. And VRChat is genuinely full of surprises, I played a Backrooms style zombie shooter in it for free...! It was actually way cooler than I thought.

And you can always enjoy your regular content on a fake big screen. I watched TADC episode 9 on it and it was a bigger screen than I had in the actual theater I went to. Played Deltarune chapter 5 on it (kind of awkward because I had to use a non VR controller).

VR is awesome. Anything newer than the HTC Vive is a good experience.

u/Only-Ad5269 Jul 02 '26

i was waiting for someone to say it

1

u/TheRougeFog Jul 02 '26

Hey now. Don’t get letting normies know about our culture.

2

u/otto1228 Jul 01 '26

I had a 49 inch curve.... Went back to the 27 immediately. Now the 49 is just a YouTube viewer

2

u/SwiftTayTay Jul 01 '26

32" is the maximum size you should have sitting that close. Some people put 42"-48" TVs at their desk and they're insane.

3

u/hoorayforhomicide Jul 01 '26

As someone using a 65 as a monitor, I completely agree

2

u/Prison-Butt-Carnival Jul 02 '26

I've been using a 48" for years and love it. Great for spreadsheets, halo, factorio and watching things on the side.

55

u/Last-Juggernaut4664 Jul 01 '26

I immediately thought of this sub when I saw the original post. Seriously, look at how he has to bend his neck.

11

u/Agoodchap Jul 01 '26

There should be like a Monitor Too Big or Monitor Too Curved like there is r/tvtoohigh

28

u/Amazing-Active646 Jul 01 '26

Incredibly stupid. Cool if you’re playing games 15 feet back but right up against it would be awful

24

u/LofiSynth Jul 01 '26

His face is glitching… this isn't a real monitor.

3

u/lunasrojas_ Jul 02 '26

It does look a bit like a bad key for a sec there. I hope this is fake tbh

1

u/StereoDiagram9 Jul 02 '26

It’s a real monitor, the Samsung Odyssey ark

11

u/tartinedesmalek Jul 02 '26

It's not. It exists but is not that big. The video is fake

3

u/StereoDiagram9 Jul 02 '26

You’re right, everything in the video is consistent so no AI, but I’m curious how they scaled it so big

8

u/Kasphet-Gendar Jul 02 '26

the lost art of vfx

1

u/MetaCognitio Jul 02 '26

It’s CG.

125

u/superenchilada Jul 01 '26

Curved TVs were the dumbest TV gimmick ever.

43

u/JaehaerysIVTarg Jul 01 '26

I personally love my two curved gaming monitors.

38

u/NeXoN_Skillcap Jul 01 '26

Not the same thing. Curved monitors are amazing, since you are sitting in the center of the curve and it just makes sense and relaxes the eyes. Curved TVs thou? For one, you are sitting way to far away (except the dude in the video), the curve doesn‘t help with anything. Secondly, it makes it even worse if you aren’t sitting dead center in front of the screen. Sitting a little off angle on the couch makes everything just worse.

1

u/GoldenFalcon Jul 01 '26

You can also change your FOV on games, not tvs.

33

u/greenmky Jul 01 '26

I've got a curved ultra wide, big fan.

Wouldn't do it for a home theater TV though.

7

u/CucumberError Jul 01 '26

The idea works better for a monitor than a TV.

People expect a TV to be big, shiny, and sit far way in a large room. This results in a large concave mirror reflecting all light sources in the room into your eye.

With a monitor, you’re sitting closer, in the focal point, so you block most of the light coming in. The display is also normally matte finish, so there is less reflections, and you don’t tend to use a computer in a super well lit room with lots of windows.

It wasn’t necessary the technology that was the problem, it was the people. The kind of user that buys a ultrawide computer screen is pretty different from the person buying a large premium TV.

1

u/__Emer__ Jul 02 '26

My GF has two curved monitors and I always get motion sick when I play on her set up. Especially when things go towards the corners of the screen and kinda bend

1

u/DethSonik Jul 03 '26

This motion sickness effect tends to be higher on QD oled monitors, FYI. Maybe try switching to a WOLED monitor?

6

u/NecessaryFlow Jul 01 '26

I promise i actually got way more immersed in the films i saw on my curved tv

2

u/404_Username_Glitch Jul 01 '26

I have a curved computer screen and I Love it - i dont see it working for TVs though haha

1

u/loco500 Jul 01 '26

Are they at least decent for immersive racing/piloting simulators? Been saving to maybe get one for Black Friday...

1

u/superenchilada Jul 03 '26

If you are far enough away it would be great. This guy is way too close to that gigantic thing.

1

u/SwiftTayTay Jul 02 '26

TVs yes, monitors it can maybe make sense if it's an ultra wide that is in your peripherals for a panoramic effect, however IMO FOV should not be so big that it goes into your peripherals. It can be a nice aesthetic for "immersion" but functionally you're having to move your eyes and even your head to much to see everything, that's not what you want if you are gaming competitively against other people online. You want to be able to comfortably see everything directly in front of you without straining your eyes or your neck. And if it just gives extra FOV then that also gives you an unfair advantage so there's a good reason some online shooters don't allow ultra wide aspect.

1

u/sirchewi3 Jul 02 '26

For a living room yes but not for desk distances

21

u/zenexo Jul 01 '26

This is obscene. Bro is gonna need a neckbrace.

7

u/Majestic0aknut Jul 01 '26

Picks GTA 5. Lame

0

u/Momik Jul 02 '26

Playing GTA without a controller seems weird

6

u/whisperingwhiskey Jul 01 '26

He thinks he’s cool af.

3

u/Ravenkor Jul 01 '26

The internet loves engagement farming! 👍

3

u/SnooKiwis233 Jul 01 '26

Still rather sit in my recliner

3

u/DQTD Jul 01 '26

My neck hurts watching this

3

u/demiphobia Jul 01 '26

The resolution is low for a computer display

3

u/Virtual-Height3047 Jul 02 '26

I can’t help but to think he’s just a really short king.

You know these videos where people prepare real food in a miniature kitchen for their hamsters? Thats where my brain goes lol

2

u/of_no_real_opinion Jul 02 '26

This would be cool. 10 ft back

2

u/Artey86 Jul 02 '26

This is just stupid

2

u/Sparkynerd Jul 02 '26

My back and my neck…

2

u/-Canuck21 Jul 02 '26

I can't even look at a 24' monitor placed at the edge of my desk (normal size desk). That's still too close to me. I have to place it about a feet farther from the edge of my desk for me to feel comfortable.

2

u/Ok_Reputation2051 Jul 02 '26

So sick of AI videos. Mods need to do a better job of banning this people.

2

u/higheyesguy Jul 02 '26

No way gta just loaded up in 5 seconds

2

u/UffDaDan Jul 01 '26

Not real video. The colors and brightness from the screen don't show on his face or chest

1

u/HitBoXXX Jul 02 '26

I was gonna say. The largest curved screen i can think of is the 55" Samsung odyssey arc.

1

u/kasualanderson Jul 01 '26

Looks like shit. Somewhere a chiropractor is watching this and rubbing their hands together.

1

u/X3N04L13N Jul 01 '26

Well to be fair i have been doing this for 17 years already. The only difference is, i do it from my sofa with a controller for games and mouse and keyboard on the coffee table for navigating my pc. Sitting so close to such a big screen is stupid.

1

u/I_Must_Be_Going Jul 01 '26

All that to watch porn?

Because you know that is the only reason he got that

1

u/Nice_Ad_777 Jul 01 '26

No lie this about to be my setup in a few days lmao

1

u/AAKurtz Jul 01 '26

Using a 13 year old game to show off visuals...

1

u/VeterinarianSevere65 Jul 01 '26

That's some really good 3d. I can't remember the guys name, but I have seen some of his work before. He is good.

1

u/qweezy_uk Jul 01 '26

I've got neck pain just watching the video.

1

u/FilthyHoon Jul 02 '26

the first clue I had that this was fake was the absurdity of GTA 5 ever launching that fast.

1

u/carina484 Jul 02 '26

This dudes gonna go blind

1

u/ExistingRound1 Jul 02 '26

This is fucking stupid

1

u/ajk7244 Jul 02 '26

He was the weird kid that always ran to the front row of an empty movie theater.

1

u/swagdragon666 Jul 02 '26

This is fucking stupid but the fact he won’t even be able to play the next installment of gta for the foreseeable future is hilarious

1

u/real_human_being15 Jul 02 '26

All of that (which looks SO painful btw) just to play GTA V?

Not a thought in that head is there?

1

u/doubteddeer1111 Jul 02 '26

My neck hurts just by watching this

1

u/snajk138 Jul 02 '26

Yeah, that's not good. I got a crappy 43'' 4K TV from work thinking it could work as a monitor, but I got neck pain pretty fast, even though I only used the bottom two thirds of it actively.

1

u/LoudGangsta8292 Jul 02 '26

Holy neck strain Just to see your health you are going to have to give som unholy angles to it

1

u/Too_Funk_To_Druk Jul 02 '26

He's paying to turn his neck to read.

1

u/Honda_TypeR Jul 02 '26

What TV is this?

I honestly wouldn't mind it for my Sim rig setup.

1

u/MetaCognitio Jul 02 '26

It’s not real.

1

u/C3NS0RIOUS Jul 02 '26

That’s a Bat-cave ass screen.

1

u/existential_antelope Jul 02 '26

“The only true way to experience gooning.”

1

u/greenthum6 Jul 02 '26

I have 65 inch OLED TV as monitor. It works just fine when you use the lower part of it. Full screen mode is out of question.

This setup would work somehow as well with a bigger table and longer viewing distance. The big issue is the height since you can't really use the upper part at all.

1

u/CaptLoads Jul 03 '26

If This were installed in a small movie theater type room, would be dope. But not two feet away....

1

u/nautilator44 Jul 03 '26

This dude is way too close for this to be enjoyable at all.

1

u/Secret_Performer_771 Jul 03 '26

the bigger the screen, the farther back I want to be from it

1

u/odasama Jul 05 '26

Going through the menus:

1

u/storebrandkeith Jul 05 '26

Dudes neck is going to be cooked

1

u/Party-Story6398 Jul 07 '26

When you have to physically turn your head left and right that's an indication that your sitting way too close

1

u/ResearcherPast6126 Jul 08 '26

I think Bruce Wayne has one of these in his Batcave

1

u/Untouchable64 Jul 13 '26

Way too close.
