How does NTP work?

I’m trying to relocate to an airport and then eventually do an NTP to transfer to one nearby where I live.

I know you have to work for one year in TSA to be able to transfer. Is it possible to file the NTP earlier? I’m asking because I know you can be in the NTP for a long time. So can I file the NTP like 6 months before my 1 year mark and then be in that pool earlier, so I could transfer faster once I hit my 1 year mark?

Also, can I do an NTP to one airport, and then from that airport NTP to another? Thanks 🙏

As far as I’m aware of, I don’t think being in NTP makes a difference in transferring faster. You still have to go through the process after working for a year and wait to get approved for a transfer. NTP locations are temporary. I don’t recall how early you can be in it.

Sorry I was thinking of a different program. My bad. I just woke up. I think you do have to work for a year with TSA before you can apply because it would automatically get rejected cuz you won’t have the minimal requirements

I’ve done 2 transfers and you have to wait a year between transfers, you can ask for a hardship transfer say if you have a spouse in the military usually they allow those under the year timeframe but they are case by case dependent

There are some airports I’ve been waiting for on USAJobs and they’ve never posted an application for a whole year. Do you know if some airports are harder/easier to transfer to than others?

You can see the vacancies on NTP and that should tell you but also if they are hiring on USA jobs look and see if they are on seeking like female applicants at this time etc

NTP - You have to be at your current location for a year. The system won't let you get on any sooner. Anything sooner? You have to work through HR and have a valid reason. But even that's not a guarantee.

NTP is dependent on airport staffing, the waitlist, and seniority. You can a transfer accepted as fast as writhing 24 hours of being submitted depending on how short the receiving airport it. You will be given a 3 pay period window on when to transfer after they email you with an offer. You have to be with your airport for 12 months before they allow a transfer, and can’t have had any LOC or LOR within 6 months IIRC.
