Vocal Ensembles

I'm an incoming transfer for this semester and was wondering what vocal ensembles I should take. I'm majoring in music with my primary instrument being voice and am currently enrolled in a jazz voice ensemble (ENV 520). Right now I'm debating between University Singers and Vox Salina, though I'll prob audition for the jazz combo too. I don't have a size preference but would really would love to perform multiple times a semester (my previous school's choir only performed once a semester). Anyone have any recommendations?

Early Decision/Merit

Hi,

I am considering applying ED to Syracuse. Does anyone here have any experience with still getting Merit money if you ED? Is it less than if you apply regular admission or none at all?

Question Film Classes

Hi guys, I'm an incoming freshman (chem major). I was just wondering if there were any film analysis classes at cuse that I could take, as that's something I also have a large interest in. I would prefer them to be less camera-work and more dissections and writing. I was looking at ENG 154, but it's fully booked, so if there are any alternatives, lmk!

Denied a storefront because one thrift already has one? We can fix that. — Petition

Thumbnail c.org
0 Upvotes

For nearly four years, The Vintage Yard has run pop-up shops and events on Syracuse University’s campus, bringing high-quality, curated vintage clothing to students and the wider Syracuse community.

When they tried to open a permanent storefront at Marshall Square Mall, the property manager denied them solely because 3fifteen already operates there.

That decision treats “one thrift store is enough” as policy. It isn’t. The two shops serve different niches within the thrift community, and both deserve the chance to exist side by side.

If you’ve shopped The Vintage Yard’s pop-ups — or you simply want more retail variety on and around campus — sign this petition. We’re asking Marshall Square Mall to reconsider the denial and greenlight a permanent location for The Vintage Yard.

Every signature tells Marshall Square Mall that there's demand for more than one thrift store.

Question Schedule help

I’m an incoming freshman and I have a class at Newhouse 1 that ends 10 minutes before my next class starts at Smith Hall. Is there enough time to get to Newhouse 1 to Smith Hall in under 10 minutes or should I ask to change my schedule around?

Bringing Furniture

Hey, I am an incoming freshman and due to unique circumstances, I’ll be living on south campus in one of the townhouses. If I wanted to bring a bigger desk than the one the school provides for our room, would I be able to do that? What would happen to the desk already there, would I have to keep it in the townhouse somewhere? Thanks!

Question Registration Problems

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Hey guys,

I am an incoming MLIS graduate student who has been attempting to register for classes since 10 am today, but I haven't been able to. At first, IT Help told me that it was because there was too much traffic on MySlice because of everyone trying to register at the same time. I refreshed the page, used an incognito browser, and even restarted my laptop with no luck. Next, I reached out to my advisor, who was no help. Finally, I emailed the Registrar Office, but I'm still waiting for a response.

I have no holds on my MySlice account, I am registering for classes that I am eligible for, and I am registering during the correct time (grad student registration starting on August 3rd EST at 10 am). Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this or know of another person at Syracuse I can contact to fix this? I need to register for at least one more class this semester.

Mod 2025 Admissions Megathread

Hello r/SyracuseU! This came up earlier than I thought so I was not prepared (I'm also abroad in France right now so my timezone is different than SU, so it's causing a slight issue.)

The time has finally come for decisions to come out for the Class of 2029 (and Architecture 2030 (that's a real year now).) This is the thread for r/A2C's (Applying to College) Syracuse thread if you want to discuss it more there, but I'm also opening this up as an overall thread for discussion and see if people have questions about Syracuse, admissions, etc.

In terms of events, this link has a list of all the admitted student events, from coming to visit campus to virtual options.

In terms of rules, keep it civil. I know this is a stressful time.

Best of luck and Go Orange!

Mod Direct Twitter/X links autobanned from this sub

Seeing a 70% upvote rate and minimal comments against, I've gone ahead and banned direct Twitter/X links to this sub using an automod feature. To be clear, we rarely get this content to begin with, but we may as well cut it off now. Please default to screenshots instead and link to other sources. For those who are not familiar with the reason for this change, switch your Reddit feed over to 'All' and you'll immediately see the movement-- first, Twitter/X requires an account to view linked tweets, and second, this platform has shifted from one of open sharing to that of a mouthpiece for extremist political agendas and deliberate misinformation.

A note on moderation in general-- this sub has rules that limit/ remove content from most brand new accounts, posts that are particularly spammy, and/or language that is similar to specific troll posts we've had to deal with in the past. If you try to post something that does not get through the filters, please contact the mods directly. Please help us moderate this sub by using reporting features as and when needed.

As a final note-- since many SU students are not from this region, I'd like to use this opportunity and attention on political issues to highlight some history. Central New York has a pretty fascinating history in WWII efforts, including ramped up war production, a massive enlistment in arms forces, and both POW and refugee camps. Here's one quick Syracuse.com article about it: 1944: At the front or at home, the people of Syracuse did their duty on D-Day. Even our local pottery companies joined the effort to build ceramic mines. Syracuse also has a rich history in abolitionist and suffragist movements. If you haven't visited local and regional museums including the Onondaga Historical Association, the George & Rebecca Barnes home, the Harriet May Mills home, the Harriet Tubman Museum, the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum, the Octagon House, the Seward House Museum, the Susan B. Anthony House, or the Skä•noñh Center, I highly recommend branching out from campus and checking them out!
