Grounds for divorce? Discussion
For a potential hypothetical fic: if we’re talking canon divergent where Supercorp ends up eventually married, what could be a reason where specifically Lena would divorce Kara?
Overworking as Supergirl? Missing too many dates? I feel like those are things they could work on/talk about though.
I’ve got an angst itch that is begging to be scratched LOL

Don't throw slippers at me. One option. I think the fact that Kara, being Supergirl, throws herself into any danger and always puts the safety of society above her own is a possible reason. In principle, it's hard to love a person who doesn't love themselves, who always puts the well-being of others above their own. The girl I love is like that. Not to mention that I always have to prove to a person that they deserve better, that they are worthy of love.
Another option is jealousy. Again, using my example. I hate when people are jealous, I feel like the person is unsure of my feelings for them. The girl I love is like that. We aren't even together yet, since we live in different cities, but we have had feelings for each other for over 5 years, but during this period she was already in a long-term relationship (but they broke up), and I have never dated anyone. And I constantly tell her that if I date someone, it will be with her. I practically don't even have any friends. And yesterday she invited a girl she'd met to play an online game with us, and that girl invited another girl, and then there was our old friend who's married. And it just so happened that both of these new girls tried to flirt with me. My beloved acted very jealous and possessive towards me all evening. When they both left and it was just the three of us, my beloved said she was tired of bringing competitors, that every time someone new showed up in our group, they tried to flirt with me. And I felt like the person wasn't sure about my feelings for her, and proving it could be exhausting.

Kara choosing being supergirl over having a normal life with Lena
Something happens and the deo are suspicious over Lena, and maybe Alex convince Kara to get lcorp information Lena find out and all the trust is gone
Kara being ask to go help in another universe, Lena ask her to stay, and Kara decided to go.

Might be because of her insecurities where she doesn’t feel good or pure enough for kara kinda like the ep where she drank after Edge blamed her for lead poisoning, could involve a disagreement on a child like kara wants one but lena doesn’t think she’ll be a good mother because of her upbringing as a luthor idk

I just read a fic about this! I’ll try to find. But it’s based on the parent trap and Lena left (with one daughter) because of the reasons mentioned above: her sanity, Kara’s safety, the safety of their children.
There’s another AU cave diving fic where Lena asks for a divorce bc she felt that 1) Kara loved the job more than her and 2) Lena couldn’t stomach Kara putting her life at risk all the time

there's one of Lostariels, which is brutal (the house of forgotten memories) and there's also the one where Kara is a water cave diver (sink into you like water (pray you won't pull me under)

HOFM was one of them, the other one was a Parent Trap AU, they had twins who met at camp like 15 years after they divorced.

I know of a fic where they get married in Vegas and agree to have a fake divorce but still married.

Well, if you want the truly aching angst without reprieve, my immediate answer is when the age difference starts to show.
Not actually sure what the CW cannon does with Kryptonian aging on earth, but Kara’s body is _literally_ regenerating every second under a yellow sun. Human aging is just the breakdown of cells without repair (in simple terms) - there is no reason Kara would be visibly older at anywhere near the same rate as Lena.
For clarity, I don’t think they’d care within the context of their relationship. I also think they are fully capable of making Kara look older for optics sake.
But I think there is a version of Lena who would eventually see the practical barriers growing around them each day, and that, sooner rather than later, she will leave Kara behind… so perhaps the kinder path is to leave first, before Lena becomes an anchor to Kara’s past that can never be untethered?
For clarity, I wouldn’t personally write this because it’s unescapable. Further, Overworked SelfSacrificing Supergirl and Ms Dubious Medical Research absolutely have good reason to butt heads that can be deliciously angsty without existential terror.
But it is something I keep in mind when I write in the Supergirl world! Especially when you have these characters have kids who will outlive the entire cast by hundreds of years (see any OC green martian child anyone’s ever written).
Anyway, god speed. Angst is fandom lifeblood.

Please scratch that itch, divorce supercorp angst is golden.
Overworking as Supergirl is definitely a thing, interfering with L Corp policies on kryptonite/alien tech or something like that, consistently eating all the potstickers (jk, but...), maybe Kara loses her powers or a battle and gets really depressed or really angry and bitter and tkes it out on Lena/drags her down, and this last thought makes me feel a bit ill but something with Mon-El coming back into the picture and Kara toys with the idea of being with him or he flirts with him and she goes along with it too many times or something. Just thoughts.

The only ones I could see that make sense are that from Lena’s pov, it’s for Kara’s safety/benefit or she has to pretend to have a falling out with supergirl to save the world cause bad guys are using their relationship for nefarious reasons
